Site states that the order may be delayed as more stock is arriving soon, any idea how soon you expect these to arrive?

    • +1

Being air bagged over and we should receive on Friday. Thanks.

  • More stock on the way.

When will it be in stock?

    • Being air bagged over and we should receive on Friday. Thanks.

  • So I'm a bit of a lurker around here and I've seen a lot of these posts for great SSD's getting closer to incredibly attractive price points. I was thinking of buying one myself for my old MacBook Pro 2010 model.

My questions is: is it worth waiting out over dropping prices for brands like Samsung/Sandisk? or is something like this also satisfactory for making my old laptop faster?

    • +3

      This is fine.

    • +4

MBP 2010 only supports SATA 2. Your laptop won't feel any faster with a top of the line Samsung 850 Pro over this one.

      • +1

Not entirely true. While overall throughput might be get bottle-necked, the significantly better latency of the and higher random IOps throughput of the Samsung would not. These are arguably far more important factors in performance for every day use. The only thing that really benefits from sequential read and write speeds beyond a certain basic threshold are file transfers. The other factors that the BX200 doesn't excel in is what makes the big performance difference. I think you are quiet wrong.

        • +2

Regardless of the difference in random r/w speeds and IOPS, SSDs have hit a point where you won't notice the difference in day to day usage between a low and high end one (maybe an added 0.5 seconds onto the boot time). I was talking about it not "feeling" any faster, not synthetic benchmark results or specialised workloads that heavily rely on non-sequential r/w operations etc. I don't know why I included the first sentence about SATA 2…:P

        • +1

          It's a 2010 MacBook pro …. it's core 2 duo … I own one and pit ssd in it.

          Bx 200 is fine.

        • @donnot: Generally speaking, but the BX200 is truly a cheap nasty drive. You'd notice a difference.

      • So basically my own hardware would bottleneck the SSD? I can't gain the fullest speeds?

I guess its still better than the one I have currently. I really needed to speed this thing up - booting takes ages, applications don't open for yonks.

I tried upgrading the ram awhile back - currently have 4GB + 2GB setup.

Would you recommend anything else to speed up my system?

        • An SSD is probably the only component you could use to speed up the system. Your hardware isn't a very large bottleneck and will probably boot in <20 seconds with an SSD.

The only area where you'll notice this particular SSD slow down a bit is if you're copying files larger than the cache of the drive (so files over 3GB), where the speed will drop down to hard-drive sequential performance. There are no slow downs in reading large amounts of data from it (i.e. opening programs, starting up etc..).

    • It's performance is all over the place. Good in some areas, poor in others. The Samsung drives are certainly superior.

this is fine but 240gb is a bit small for a laptop……. you can swap out the dvdrom for a hd caddy and have SSD for booting and 1 to for storage but the power saving from an SSD is nice and the dvd caddy takes a long time to park the drive so uses battery …… my MacBook has 500 gb SSD so has new lease of life.

This is definately the best value SSD.

The best value SSD would need an arse code

    • +1

      And a functioning website ;)

      • -1

And a better drive than the BX200 =.

    • best value SSD would be bigger 240gb is a bit small and laptops have limited sata connectors so often limited to 1 drive.

      • +2

not completely useless though - i have 2 machines in my house with 120gb drives which are plenty when most of the storage those machines rely on are on my server or in the cloud.

  • Hey rep……do we wait to order tonight, or send email or……?

    • still failing. got to select payment option but bombed at that point.

      • finally worked. paypal failing. used CC.

  • Can't make payment, always error

  • Avg. Sequential Write Speed 257 MB/s!!! - http://ssd.userbenchmark.com/SpeedTest/40435/CT240BX200SSD1

    • Is that good or bad???

      • +2

        Bad

    • will it be the bottle neck in your system as you have a z170 and 6tg gen processor or you have a 4 year old system and its not he bottle neck ?
