  • Why this over the pascol pre tinted?

Valspar Diamond has a built in primer which gives it better coverage, it requires less coats and it will last longer. Full product info here

It's meant to be made by Watyl.

Its probably more correct to say Valspar makes Wattyl as Wattyl is a Valspar Brand.

  • I think Valspar Diamond range is one of the top range in Masters. Not sure compare to Wattyl Id or Dulux.
    So its + for me.

Does anyone know if it is a good idea to buy now and keep it until Summer?

  • So…

I bought 10L of the low sheen paint, and when I opened it up, a good 10cm layer of it had solidified at the bottom of the bucket. Very disappointing.

    • solidified - rock hard crud? or thickened up like baked custard?

      • Not rock hard - it was somewhat pliable, but it would have been very hard to mix it back into the rest of the paint.

        • it does mix, just stab it few dozen times with a paint stirrer and then stir (best thing to use is a paint stirrer attachment connected to a drill). paint can thicken up when left sitting.

Too late! Already returned. I've had old paint before and it's never separated to that solid a consistency. I'd be highly doubtful of it not being lumpy without straining it. Way too much hassle considering it's meant to be new paint.

        • @lololol: that's cool that you could return it (which is totally fair enough). i've had a similar occurrence with paint and found it ok with a bit of mixing. cheers

(TYPICAL MASTERS CUSTOMER SERVICE FAILURE STORY)

I will agree with you on the comment above. The same thing happened to myself and I went back to Masters and returned the paint. The staff opened another can to replace the original paint but it was the same solidified paint as well therefore I was able to get a refund without any issues.

Then I went to another Masters store nearby thinking that the batch might be expired or something and luckily the staff at this store had more knowledge about the issue. VALSPAR has issued a notice to all Masters stores about this issue and has instructed them to shake the paint for 2 mins before tint and 2 mins after tint. However, after reading that and I requested them to shake it for 4 mins after tint instead to be 100% and this resolved the mixing issue. Apparently this is due to high titanium compound in this paint which settles at the bottom due to high density.

Whereas the previous Masters store only put it in the shaker for merely 30 seconds or so and therefore the issue.

Now the paint itself…. I have used Tubmans so far for my house (Full House Re Paint) and this was only used for my son's bedroom which I finished painting yesterday and I MUST SAY, THIS PAINT BEATS TAUBMANS BY MILES….

      • Very easy to work with
      • Vibrant colour (you can see the difference of hydrochroma tint)
      • The coverage is so much better, even after 1 coat I could see full coverage.
      • No banding at all

I have painted the whole house in Taubmans but now if I had the choice :( I would go for Valspar any day. It took me half the time and much more ease when using this paint. I used Purdy Ultra Finish 3 Pack Rollers (from Masters as well) but this was used for the whole house, not just on one room.

However I highly recommend if you plan to tint it and store till summers, please make sure you take it back to them for shaking before you start painting.
