I've got a handheld that has the same engine, so isn't this just the same unit, essentially, with a long attachment? Seems weird to pay so much more for that?

  Possibly the same motor but different head units (2 seperate motorised heads for carpets and hard floors) + handheld with small tubing is not really a replacement for you normal vacuum cleaner.

  If you are talking about the DC58, that has the first generation V6. This one as the lastest version.

Bought the absolute in the 20% tech on ebay for $558, which is the lowest I can recall, and bought the toolkit for $48, which also was as low as I've seen…so $604 with the free toolkit is actually $2 cheaper, if you want the toolkit.

So good deal for those that do!
