  • If you add a Voice and Data Pack part way through your billing month you will be charged for the full amount for your new Voice and Data Pack and receive the full data allowance, regardless of when in the billing month you make the change.

  • Any unused data allowance, including any Data Pack allowance, expires at the end of each billing month.

So what's the cheapest post paid per month?

    • $10 friends plan, but not available to new customer now.

      • I don't think this bonus data pack is available on this friends plan. Happy to be proved wrong as I am on this plan too!

        • +4

Guaranteed it works on the $10 staff cap

        • @LolwutMikka: thanks! This is awesome!

        • @LolwutMikka:

Is that the same as the $39 staff cap with $10 minimum charge?
I usually keep my usage under the $10 minimum.. would that mean by adding a $15 pack I still get charged $10+$15 for the 3GB total?

        • +3

          @unco:
Yes 3gb data plus unlimited text and calls for $25.

        • @ko0l: funny I've just finished paying off the iphone 5 I got on the staff plan, which was $15/mth too.

Question is what would you even use the $10 credit for a month? I think PlayStore credit doesn't count?

        • +1

@supabrudda: the $10 on the F&F/FOT/Staff Cap is the minimum charge and includes $10 of normal credit which will give you about 10 mins worth of calls (on top of your 1GB of data). Adding the new $15 data pack makes the total monthly fee $25 for unlimited calls and texts as well as an extra 2GB of data. I was about to cancel the plan when I paid off my MRO until this awesome data/call pack came along. Also, you can try your luck and ring Telstra to add a new MRO since the plan also comes with an ongoing $15 MRO bonus/discount (although the success rate varies, see whirlpool for more info).

        • @bozbargain:
Thanks for the tip, I'm not after a new phpone (I sold the iphone 5), it was more that you get $10 min spend a month, so i wonder what it can be used for now, since calls & txt would be covered.

Also does the unlimited calls inc voicemail, 1800/13xx numbers?

        • @supabrudda: I believe so. Please note 1800 numbers were unlimited without the data pack already since Telstra made 1800 numbers properly FOC a while ago.

        • @LolwutMikka:

appreciate that update. Have you seen that on your own bill? You sure it doesn't go up to the $39 and then adds on $15?

        • +1

          @Owl:
See http://puu.sh/ozD7v/4e70008c91.png for reference. The additional data pack was before Telstra updated the $15 data pack to 2gb

        • @supabrudda:
I believe the $10 spend was for standard calls and data only. Premium calls and voicemail were charged by the minute and you can't use postpaid call credit on Play Store purchases

        • @LolwutMikka:
Thanks for that screenshot, I'm now able to make phone calls and sms without worrying about going over $10 haha.

Is there a way to remove this $15/2GB pack easily through the My Account page online?
Or do I need to contact Telstra to do it?

        • @LolwutMikka:thanks so unlimited doesnt include 13xxx or voicemail then; that'd come out of the $10 min usage.

Although we can use the 1800 135 102 to grab voicemail anyway

        • +1

          @supabrudda:
No, unlimited does include voicemail retrieval (visual for iPhone too) and MMS. It's 13 and 19 numbers that are 40c flat on top.

          @unco:
You should be able to remove/add/change the data packs via 24x7 app the last time I remember

  • noticed the change about 2 weeks ago.

if you dont need the unlimited calls and just the data, the data share plans might be worth mentioning, you get a sim (but you can just cut it up if you dont want to use it)

    $15/2.5GB
    $35/5.5GB
    $55/9.5GB

The data share sims are now very tempting. Especially when you get a Samsung tab A 8.0 when you join for 24 months.

    • +1

I just wish they'd adopt the Optus $5 once-off SIM fee instead of $5 per month just to share my data. I already have 7.5gb from the $40 deal and I don't want to pay an extra $60 a year to share data I am already paying for.

      • Actually Optus stopped that offer/product months ago :( Can't get a once off SIM for $5 anymore.

  • Or $5 extra per month for 10GB and unlimited calls, SMS and MMS… Which brings me to my next point… who the hell would bother with the 5GB BYO M plan… $15 more per month and no unlimited calls…

    • $60 plan i think you're referring to is a 12month contract. this isnt.

people who pay $50 for the 5gb byo plan, want to be on telstra and use less than 5gb of data, easy. also the $35 data pack doesnt include a number

      • +1

OK… nvm I went full derp… these are add ons… I saw "Unlimited calls" and thought it was a normal plan.

  • if they did deals on international data :D

      You dreaming

    • +9

      it works in tassie :-)

  • +3

Pretty good deal but I thought that "Std" was referring to the term for "Long Distance" calls for a moment

    • +5

ye olde farte showing your age. you probably think of them as PMG mobilenet

  • Just to clarify before I bite the bullet. I am currently on a Go Mobile plan. I have a spare phone I am not using. I can add-on the $15 sim, get 2gb added to my data share pool plus use the SIM in the spare phone and have unlimited calls etc. with it. Is that correct?

    • +1

I'm not really one to give advice but you can probably confirm speaking to online chat :)

    • +1

The unlimited calls will only apply to the service that the pack is connected to. It won't give you unlimited calls on the data share SIM that's in your spare phone. Also, these are just add-on packs. You don't get another SIM when you add one of these packs.

      • I have an existing Go Mobile plan which can share data if I want to. Is it possible to buy the $5 Data share sim only and add the $15 add on to that? If so $20 p/m for unlimited calls + 2gb of data would be amazing for my family.

        • No. All these things get added to the main plan like your Go Mobile plan. You can't add it to a data share SIM.

  • So the $5/250MB Data Pack doesn't provide the unlimited std calls?

  • Looks interesting.

Im not with telstra right now.
How do i reap this deal?

$15 for 2gb and unlimited calls looks nice.

What cost do i need to obtain the sim?

    4G Telstra network 'yes'!!!

    https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/plans-and-rates

Do i need one of these 12mnth term sims from link above??

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/244102
    L prepaid from aldi?

    • +2

These are not standalone plans. Theyre just add-on packs for an existing Telstra post paid plan. You don't get another SIM when adding one of these packs. Also, these packs only apply to eligible Telstra plans, not Aldi.

  • Can I add these to the freedom plus pre paid option?

  • -1

So im on the old staff $39 cap plan. If I add the $15 pack, does excess data still come out of the cap? or is it charged on top, like that "extra data" scam they pulled?

    • -1

Ahhh wait, it looks like they add the "extra data" scam as part of this deal.

  • +3

How do you get on the $10 staff plan?

    • Same ask, how to get in?

I've found these two pages under Telstra website, but how should I approach Telstra to get the deal?

      Mobile Casual Plan $10

      Mobile Accelerate Casual Plan $10

      • Can't. From 24x7 chat just now:

I understand that you are interested with our plans, however, as much as I would like to process an order with either the TELSTRA MOBILE CASUAL PLAN $10 or MOBILE ACCELERATE CASUAL PLAN MONTH-TO-MONTH $10, our system will restrict me to do so. I'm afraid that the small plan we have costs $35.

    • Are you a staff? if so it should be the staff $39 plan (according to the comments above)

  • What's the cheapest post paid plan that's available to new customers you can tack one of these to?

  • Edit: removed

  • +1

Get a 2GB Data Upsize for just $10/mth

    From Telstra:

    telstra.com/up1

Make sure you're on the Telstra network when opening the link

    • Thanks heaps!

    • I did this a few months ago but was only offered 1GB for $5 extra :(

  • If you have a friend's family plan the added data gets applied to the already 1gb;eg 2gb + 1gb = 3gb
