Why the enthusiasm for Beats? Other than making a fashion statement, they are far from anything special.

    • +4

Agreed, In the headphone world beats are viewed like Kim Kardashian. They look like a stylish fasion accessory but they are overpriced rubbish.

      • +1

Indeed I try telling my girl that beats are just like anything else crApple owns over priced junk.

    • +2

The quality is good enough (others will say rubbish or garbage but it's not as if they skip parts of the audio, or are muddy in a way that is unacceptable), and the design looks nice. They're also lightweight and easy to store (with wireless options), so they are great to take outside. There's nothing to understand beyond that really.

I picked them mainly because they were the only wireless noise cancelling headphones around at the time which sold for a decent price.

I feel the enthusiasm for disliking Beats is much more apparent than the enthusiasm for them to be fair, judging by the posts here.

I have a personal hatred of all things Beats because they (and HP) went out of their way to sabotage the sound drivers on a laptop I had.

Beats enabled? Pump up the bass. Beats disabled? Turn the treble way up and bass down so it sounds as tinny as possible. Oh, you can manually tweak it back to neutral in the non-Beats controls but it'll reset to the sabotaged settings on reboot. All to make Beats-enabled sound better.

At this point I don't even care how good their hardware is, I'll avoid them and call out this bullshit on principle alone.

    • Being fashionable is meant to be expensive.

    • Marketing, purely marketing. They're garbage. But awesome marketing. Thus they were bought by Apple.

  • +1

    Are there actually any deals?

  • -7

Sure there is a discount code there but there isn't really any deals here. Beat's headphones are well over 1.5x the price of any competitor or similiar specs with better audio quality so you'd need 50% before you'd think about it.

Don't neg because the beats by dre are overpriced

      Reported.

      • Thats not why I negged, I did that because there no was no particular deal listed. I made a comment on the Beats devices because the contributor thought it was noteworthy, possibly been mislead to their quality.

        • -2

The deal was 20% off all Headphones

          End of story.

  • I shake my head and thing what a fool everytime I see someone wearing beats

Maybe I can sell them a bridge I have in sydney as well

  • The Solo2 is a surprisingly good headphone, even excellent for hiphop music alone.

    • Yes I have heard that some of their recent headphones are quite good.

      • Heard as in listened to them yourself or what someone else has told you after convincing themselvess to justify the price

        • +4

Independent reviews from reputable reviewers. There's still better value alternatives but some people need to keep their opinions up to date, spewing tired old vitriol that's no longer completely accurate is good for noone.

But I've got no horse in this race, so by all means think whatever you like.

        • +2

@CanadaAye: I kinda thought Solo2 was decent when I tried it out (then again, it was long time ago in JB HiFi or OfficeWorks, so not exactly a place where I could try it out "properly", then again, it's likely to be used in those kind of environment to begin with). At least, it made me think it's worth buying Solo2 and I can see why people buy it at least if you like that kind of sound.

I personally think the fact that I can say "it's worth buying" suggests a lot of improvement and genuinely being good, because I despised their older line (my brother had $500 one that he got as a present from his mates, which I tried once then went ughhh) and I genuinely think the price range of Solo2 has a lot of competition.

I don't know, I feel like saying that Beats can be nice in some sense automatically makes people say I am a sheep of some kind. I have to bring people like Tyll or I have to bring up what I have to prove that I am not clueless apparently. If you ask me, that's ironic in my opinion.

  • Bought Sony MDR100AAPB for $168.20 delivered. I can't find those for a better price anywhere. JB have them at $299. Amazon $198 USD.

    • How was the sound like?

      • +1

Still waiting for it to arrive since I only just got it in this sale.

  • +1

I think SENNHEISER - PX 200-III is the best out of them all. Don't like Beats at all.

  • To those who say beats are overpriced and are a fashion statements
    Fashion cost money
    Adidas Yeezy cost money
they arent that much better than other cheaper alternatives

    • Are you ok?

  • I got PHILIPS SHB5500BK for $71, not the best price but was convenient since I was instore anyway.

    • You still get 20% off in store without using the coupon?

      • +1

The one at cross roads liverpool honored it without a fuss so the others should.

        • That's great.

  • Any good noise cancelling headphones?

  • The Sony mdr100aapl over-ear:
    https://www.binglee.com.au/sony-mdr100aapl-h-ear-on-headphon…

…are about 60 bucks cheaper than the best deal on staticice:
    http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=sony+MDR+10…

Says it's the wireless noice-cancelling version, but the pic seems to be of the wired ones.

Anyone know if they are any good?
