Motorola Moto X Style (Unlocked & Unbranded), $299 from Vodafone (When Added to Plan)

2710

Was in my local Vodafone store doing an upgrade and found out about this bargain.

So Vodafone which had the X Style as an exclusive have dropped the RRP on the device to $299

From what I have been told not every store has stock and they are no longer able to order them in however Online has 100's of units remaining.
There are 2 ways to get the device (other than getting on a plan of course, which is $0 on every plan at Vodafone)

1) Added to a Vodafone Plan as an installment (cheaper this way) $12.45 per month for 24m or $24.90 per month for 12 months You can also get Vodafone to add to your plan in 1 installment of $299

2) REMOVED: Lots of feedback indicating that Stores are unable to sell outright, phone must be added to new or existing plan, have removed this info to prevent disappointment, you can try and find Outright.. but expect resistance.

I was happy to add the phone to my existing plan for the 12m

in store you can ONLY get the black model (one i got)
if you are a Vodafone customer and are going option 1 above, you can call them or go online and get the White Model if your prefer.

Stock is showing as 2-3 days from order approval at moment so still plenty in stock

Not a bad phone for the price.. battery is not awful but not awesome. (one day max apparently)

    • Epping did that to me too, bastards.

    • werribee store also…can confirm - was in today and told need to be on plan…they don't sell outright…

    • +1

Same here QVB Sydney store too, have to join Voda for 1 month, on one of their SIM only plan on no contract…

      • +1

same here from QVB store, had to join the sim only 30$ and cancel within the first month. still a great deal.

    • I just got one with sim only month to month $30 plan.

    • Greensborough vic and docklands vic wont sell outright only on 24month plan.

  • Might be worth consolidating in one post:

Has anyone successfully gone in to a store to buy the Moto X Play Style outright without having a vodafone account or plan or anything?

*Did the store try to get you on a plan?
*Did they say you need to be on a plan to get on board with this?
    *were they hesitatant etc?

Also, curse being in QLD and having this public holiday at this time XD

    • +3

I picked one up outright from the Westfield Geelong store this morning. Not currently a vodafone customer and there weren't any issues, no hesitation. Only required my phone number (for records/warranty I'm guessing) and that's it. Overall the transaction took ~3 minutes from walking in the store to walking out. Staff were very friendly and there was a minimum of fuss which I appreciate, will definitely consider a service with Vodafone in the future.

    • Same as feeed, good customer service at Vodafone Canberra city store

      • Did you get it outright or have to get a sim as well?

        • +1

No, I have to get sim ($30 month to month plan) + $299

        • @akd: Do you know if Canberra Civic has any stock left?

Edit: Sorry never mind, saw your post below!

    • Yes, mine was from Waurn Ponds store (near Geelong). Wonderful friendly service. No contract required, no hesitation.
I wish all telco stores were this nice to deal with. If Vodafone worked at my home (which it doesn't as I'm regional) I'd be a customer for sure.

  • So I'm on month to month plan with no contract. If I got this phone will I now be on a contract? What if I got the phone and left Voda in a month for example?

  • I tried to choose the 6 month payment but then it defaults to 24 months on the next page.

  • I'm on a sim only, month to month with voda. Got the white/bamboo one via website last night. 6 monthly payments of $49.83 for the phone.
    Great deal, thanks OP!

    • +1

s weird, I even called them and they said it is totally out of stock. I wonder how this Vodafobe system works.

      • Yeah the website won't let me login, so I called, they said they have no white stock at all.

      • I ordered it last night, just before 10pm. I ummed and ahhhhed about it for a good few hours. I'm an existing voda customer, if that makes any difference..

    • ,

  • What a fantastic deal. I got a black one on the $30 SIM Only plan, being delivered in a few days. I'll cancel before the 1st month is up (I did the same with the Nexus 6p). Thanks for the heads up OP!

    • Did you order online or from the store?

      • +1

        I ordered over the phone.

        • Just try chat and they said they can't get one on sim only plan

        • @baronseng: Chat said the same thing to me. I called up anyway and negotiated and they signed me up with one of a $30 SIM Only plan. They didn't want to though. They wanted me to sign up to a 24 month contract.

        • @S3ISOR:
it's funny cause they advertise the outright instalment prices for phones in their monthly catalogue.

  • +2

Thanks , got one from Canberra civic store. For $329 ($299 phone + $30 month to month plan) it is an excellent deal. Still lot of stock with them at 9:40 AM.

    • Ok, thanks. They wouldn't sell it outright?

    • Just did the same thing at Warringah Mall, wouldn't sell outright but would sell on a $30 Sim only month to month plan, will cancel before month is out.

Had both black and white stock.

    • +1

Got the last one from Canberra Civic. The guy said there's no more stock in the whole city but they're happy to order them in and sell them for the same price.

      • What time did you buy it?

I went in at 11am. I was told by all sales people there were none left and were never many to start with (maximum of 3). When "akd" went in and saw "still a lot of stock" I think they didn't actually see a lot of stock at all (3, with 1 being bought by akd is NOT a lot of stock).

        • I went in at lunch time, so it must've been around 12:30pm.

        • @victorwilson:

Wow, really? What exactly did you say when you went in? I politely asked about the Moto X Style and said I would like to buy one and was told there were none left. They were willing to place an order for one to be sent to me at home if I decided to buy just a month-to-month SIM which wasn't a problem but I really wanted one on the spot.

Who were you served by? Initially I asked the African-looking (for lack of a better work) man and was told there was none. I then went back in 10 minutes later and spoke with the other man (white) and then the Asian woman. All said there were none, checked their systems and said there weren't any in the ACT either.

        • @johnleckie70: Interesting. I was served by some Latin-American looking guy with an American accent. I asked "have you got any Moto X Styles in stock?", he said there was one out the back, the last one in the ACT. He automatically assumed I wanted it outright, and signed me up to the $30 monthly plan.

        • @victorwilson: Yup, that was the "white" guy I was talking about. What an a$$! Please check your private messages.

    • So good.

  • Anyone in Melb interested in trading their white for a black?

    • Lol do you know that the White Bamboo is a premium model and sells for like US $30 more in Moto Maker. Everyone wants the white as it was sold for same price here. Unless you offer $50 or so, I dont think anyone will trade :P

      • +1

I don't know why people want the white one, the front is not as clean looking as the black.

        • Because it's harder to get maybe. People do like a challenge.
I agree with you - prefer black.

        • +1

Same, I prefer black. Not sure what the fuss is for the White.

        • once you go black

        • Its personal choice , what I was pointing out that the White One was an Exclusive Online and only available in Flagship CBD stores in limited nos. Also its usually more expensive and offered as an Add On for US $30 more in Moto Maker website

Its not about the front, its about the Bamboo Back. Only 1 in 1 Million people with a phone have a phone like you, its exclusive :D

  • +1

Whoa… will get one for a spare phone for this price. Was thinking of getting this before the whole LG G5 got announced.

    Thanks OP!

  • +1

Just picked up one of these from my local Vodafone store. No problem $299. They just warned me that they don't guarantee it will work with Telstra/Boost who I'm with, but reading the X Style WP thread this seems no problem. I just need to get Boost to transfer me to my new Nano SIM that I got from the supermarket. What an awesome deal!

Thanks heaps to Jimbobaus for this one! I feel like I've won a prize getting this phone (which is beautiful btw) for this price. Good old Ozbargain strikes again!

Edit - correction to the latest edit: I got this without any plan or SIM purchase. Looks like it just depends who you deal with.

    • Lucky you. Went to a small Vodafone booth. They had no stock but staff was happy to order one and sell it to me outright @ 299. However when he checked, said he had to pay $700 to get the phone in and apologise he could not do it for $299. Bummer.

      • Yeah I read on whirlpool that dealer stores (who buy the stock) are charged the old rrp at the moment so to sell you one outright at $299 they lose $400

But if added to plan they don't pay for handset as its sold.
Retail or company owned stores sell based on rrp on day you buy (currently $299)

  • +1

Thanks OP, got one from 1555 Voda Red Care team, once off fee $299 will be charged in my next bill (I am existing customer), White ones all sold out only have black ones there, free delivery (tmr) as well.

  • Sold out in all Sydney CBD stores. As usual store rep saved one for him in front of me.

    • maybe try online order

      • Just called customer care and order is on its way! :)

  • +1

    Influx on Gumtree incoming…

  • I would like to get the white color and I'm a new customer to Vodafone.

I checked 2 two stores near north Ryde and only black available. They have no issues in putting me on a new month to month plan and give the device for monthly installments.

Would anyone know if I can just get a month to month service activated now and then go online and add the device to this month to month service without getting onto a contract?

    • if u add the phone at a later date you as from comments above have to wait up to 90 days before you can do that
if you get the sim and phone at same time you have no issues.
so get them together, don't try and do at separate times.

From what is being said above, white is OOS

      • Okay will get the black one today. Thanks.

  • Just called Vodafone and ordered a black over my sim only plan. Its coming out to be 24 dollars over 12 months which is $288. They only have Black left and only 290 in stock

  • parramatta and blacktown stores out of stock.

ordered one black to be delivered to my home.

stores never received any white stocks.

    • +1

INCORRECT "stores never received any white stocks."

I picked WHITE from Westfield Southland VIC this morning for $299 outright (all finished, no more stock at that store)

      • I stand corrected. Maybe cause I dealt with a dealer store.

  • +1

Tried the big Vodafone Store on Murray St in Perth… lol they don't sell them outright lol ok

    • thanks, saves me a trip there! what abt their hay st store?

      • No worries. Haven't tried that yet, didn't have long! Lemme know what they say if you check it out

      • Just tried… they will only sell on a plan

        • So i went into the Hay St store and they gave me the same spill. Have to sign up for 1 month ($30/month) and then cancel to get the phone as a non existing customer. So i came back with my friend who is on vodafone and they said she only just signed (on a new plan) and you have to wait 90 days before adding another phone to the account. By far the biggest C U Next Tuesday I have ever been served by. The man who served me originally was very nice but he was held up by a man telling him his life story and I was on limited time LOL So yep, 2 trips and still no phone. ARGH. Motorola's biggest mistake giving them exclusive rights to the phone.

        • @KupoHo:

          Call up I reckon.
They advertise their sim only/device instalment plans in their catalogues.

  • +1

Got one from Warnbro store with $30 month-to-month plan without any issues (WA). They still have plenty available in store (both colours)

    • Which branch is it? The one in shopping cntre?

      • (Sorry for delayed reply) Yes, the one in the shopping centre. The mgr said he can check the availability in other stores as well. Hope you get one.

  • Apparently my service is under a lock-out period (new customer as of 2mo. ago) and so I was directed to call Customer Service to upgrade. Call Customer Service, get circularly told that I can't upgrade because I'm in a lock-out period. Guy on the phone said he'd make a note on my profile and call me back when my 90-day lock-out period ends to 'discuss'. I told him I had no interest in buying the phone at another price so I'm not sure what he's hoping to get out of it.

Anybody know if there's anything I can do about this/if I will run into the same roadblock in store?

    • add a sim only with the phone?
cancel the sim only in a week or so?
payout the phone when u do?

  • Shame about public holiday here in qld (still working)! I imagine most will be sold out by tomorrow. Great deal

  • Reserved two phones (one black, one white) at the Bondi Junction Westfield branch. I'll have to sign each up to the $30 month-to-month plan though.

  • just called their customer care number about the status of my order and was told that both white and black are unavailable!, not sure what that means. FWIW i ordered teh white one over 6 months online last night and got a confirmation for the order.

    • Ok this makes me worried. I also ordered a white one online last night on a 6 month contract and got confirmation email.. zzz

      • Same here, I ordered a white one last night. Just online chat with Vodafone support to check status, they told me all Motorola phones is out of stock. Vodafone website is now showing out of stock for Black but White is still available.

  • Got one! XD Thanks jimbobaus

  • So far 2 stores have refused to sell outright (Chadstone and Elsternwick)…

    • Just get them on the $30 month to month plan & cancel after a month. Extra $30 not too bad if they have it.

  • Chatswood Chase, Chatswood Westfield both no stock. Neutral Bay store all out since this morning(all remaining stock already reserved). They did offer to order it (black version) for me as a plan add-on, which I accepted on 12m contract.

I asked about buying outright as well and they said they would have to bill it as a one off $299 charge on a plan.

  • Call - get on to sales team. they are happy to sell for $299 + $30 a month to month plan (cancel after one month). Black only available.

Total $329. Bought two, one for me, one for partner. Yay!

  • Hi, I just called sales on 1300300404 and was advised I can't get a phone outright on a month to month plan unless I've been with them for 3 months. How can I get this phone as a new Vodafone customer? I don't want the $40 2 year contract. I just want the phone to be honest. Hope somebody can help. Thanks

    • +1

I don't think that's right. I literally just ordered two half an hour ago. Call back is my advice and try another rep.

I said I found the phone cheap online, wanted to buy it, not interested in a long plan. They will try sell you the 24 month plan. Ask for it on the month to month again and it worked for me.

      • +2

Perfect - thanks so much. I managed to get the same deal. I called 3 times in the end. 2 of them were trying to sell a 2 year contract and said month to month with a phone is impossible.

        Cheers!

  • Anybody know which one has the better camera, the Nexus 5X or Moto X Style?

  • Ordered earlier this morning via the phone sales line, they happily sold it with a month-to-month $30 SIM plus $299 outright - 2-3 days for delivery, great deal thanks OP

  • grab one from Vodafone waurn ponds this morning.

    Thanks op.

It should support dual sim cards with Asian ROM. The sim2 slot was covered by a small plastic.

    • Have you got more info on changing the ROM to support Dual sims? please

    • This is single sim phone, how will it work as dual sim?

    • I think you're mistaken mate… you probably refer to Moto X Play… Style version doesn't have dual sims, but another slot for microSD expansion…

      • Excatly. I was checking XDA and everyone was talkin about converting single sim Play to dual sim. I m curious to know model number for this Moto Style.

        • The Vodafone AU X Style is the XT1572

      • There are actually two sim card slots (one is covered by plastic and easily removable) and there are contacts for the second SIM inside the device, but it doesn't recognise the second SIM even if you flash a dual sim ROM.

      • I'm not sure - I noticed the same thing as wyu1986 - my little tray also has a spot for a second SIM which is filled in with a bit of SIM-sized plastic, separate to the MicroSD card spot which is on the other side of the tray. It looks to me like the hardware was built to accommodate dual SIMs.

    • When did you get it? I called them 10:30am and they said it was sold out. :(

      • 9am

  • Anyone recommended good case/cover and screen protector for this phone?

  • Just called and got a black on a $30 month to month :)
