Motorola Moto X Style (Unlocked & Unbranded), $299 from Vodafone (When Added to Plan)

2710

Was in my local Vodafone store doing an upgrade and found out about this bargain.

So Vodafone which had the X Style as an exclusive have dropped the RRP on the device to $299

From what I have been told not every store has stock and they are no longer able to order them in however Online has 100's of units remaining.
There are 2 ways to get the device (other than getting on a plan of course, which is $0 on every plan at Vodafone)

1) Added to a Vodafone Plan as an installment (cheaper this way) $12.45 per month for 24m or $24.90 per month for 12 months You can also get Vodafone to add to your plan in 1 installment of $299

2) REMOVED: Lots of feedback indicating that Stores are unable to sell outright, phone must be added to new or existing plan, have removed this info to prevent disappointment, you can try and find Outright.. but expect resistance.

I was happy to add the phone to my existing plan for the 12m

in store you can ONLY get the black model (one i got)
if you are a Vodafone customer and are going option 1 above, you can call them or go online and get the White Model if your prefer.

Stock is showing as 2-3 days from order approval at moment so still plenty in stock

Not a bad phone for the price.. battery is not awful but not awesome. (one day max apparently)

  • Just got a black with a $30 plan, which I will cancel in a month, good replacement for my old S3… finally getting rid of that old piece of …

  • +1

Can someone tell me how do you actually cancel the plan after the first month? Do you just log into your account or have to give Vodafone a call?

    • Porting your number out (at no charge) is the best option they advised me (and before your first month is up).

    • If you port out in the first day do they pro rata it so you only pay for one day?

      • No, you'll get charged for the full month

      • I ported out on 3/5, got a bill today for $308.80.

  • Guys anyone wanting to exchange a white one for a black one??

  • get it straight away in Sydney CBD!! (central tunnel) only 2 stocks left at the time I got mine. I purchase with $20 month to month broadband (2.5 gb). I will cancel after it. Great fone so far. One thing I don't like is it get hot very quickly!! (hope when update to M, it will get better)

    • Where is Sydney CBD!! (central tunnel)?

I lost my phone last week and ordered a new one from DWI (OnePlus X for $350 express delivered) then saw this post.
Immediately cancelled the order and went into Vodafone. (current month to month sim only Vodafone customer)

The first store said it was an error and I could only get the phone if I went onto a fixed term contract even though I brought up the offer on the computer screen in store logged into My Vodafone > 'Upgrades' section. I walked out after 15 minutes of debating.

Went to the next store (Chadstone) and the Vodafone employee helping me was surprised at the offer and said he was going to buy one after work.
Immediately added it to my plan over 24 months so I didn't have to pay anything in-store.

I then noticed that the plan I was on ($50 on a month-to-month sim only for 10gb) has a new iteration ($50 a month for 12gb on fixed term 12 month contract), other inclusions basically identical. I queried it and they changed it for me instantly.

Summary of my visit, extra $12 a month for an awesome phone and +2gb.

    I love Ozbargain

    • Was the guy at chaddy named joe?
      Asian dude?
      Older?

  • So you can't just walk in and buy one? Why do you need to do a credit check if you're buying one outright?

This is a great price for the specs, I just wish the phone weighed a bit less, as I'm looking for an upgrade for someone who really likes light phones and is coming from a 127 gram old Motorola Android that's beyond its use-by-date. For example, the Moto X Style uses the same chipset + CPU + GPU + RAM + internal storage + screen res + battery capacity as the LG G4, with a very similar screen size @ 5.5 vs 5.7", but is 24 grams heavier.

This person certainly sees all the benefits of smartphones above the old dumb Nokia handsets, but I have to agree that those old Nokias were super-durable, very lightweight, and had batteries that easily lasted for a week at a time on a single charge. Attributes which are sorely missing in current smartphones.

    • That's right, so it's a helluva bargain considering the cheapest the G4 ever came to was $370 and that was grey import.

Also, I don't know how it's possible but on gsmarena's standardised test, the Moto X Style scores higher than the G4 despite having a significantly larger screen: http://www.gsmarena.com/battery-test.php3

picked up a black, outright, no problems (not a vodafone customer), from highpoint (vic) supposedly theres a handful left in stock for anyone interested

  • I got the last one from the Vodafone store on George St Sydney. Signed up on the $30/M for 1 month. Brilliant Deal.

  • +1

    Update for Melbourne..

Highpoint is happy to sell them on their own

  • brick of a phone though …

    • Quite a decent size actually for the screen i think. It's heavy though.

      • Think of it as a little TV.
I've been watching music videos on my new one (picked up this morning) - sound and video is just lovely!

Has anyone's phone been sent (via ordering online)?

    • Same question here. I hope online orders are being processed.

    • I just got an email to say my phone order for a black Moto X + $30 month-to-month SIM has shipped. I ordered this morning around 930. It's being sent my Australia Post Express Post, but hasn't been picked up yet. Hopefully I'll receive it on Thursday.

    • I ordered my one at 11.40 am today through 1555 customer services and now when I check it says "your order is being delivered by Aus Post"

      • +1

        Mine's just stuck at:
        Ready to go
Your order is being prepared for delivery.
        01/05/16 19:01

    • Mine.. on its way.. ordered today morning 11.40

      • Thanks! They just updated it. Was already on its way but they just didn't update it until now.

  • +1

Just picked mine up in Melbourne cbd….for my son had to sign up to month by month but he can cancel within 30 days …..good $330 package

  • Thanks OP, just ordered one over the phone on a $30 month to month.

Vodafone Epping (VIC) has the coolest staff, got the phones outright whereas Vodafone Airport West said its only available in 24 months contract.

    Happy chappy!

  • Just bought the phone for $299 + $30 month-month in broadmeadows, told them I wanted black,
but after opening it later at home found out I got the white bamboo model…
Is it possible to return it for a different colour?

There are people in here wanting to do swaps. Read back through comments.

    • Any chance for a swap? Pm me.

  • Because it has to be added to a plan, could i get a prepaid plan and pay $299 upfront?

    • I chatted online and the answer was no. Needs to have a month to month account or on contract.

  • Black is out of stock on the website

  • I just rang up just now to see if it xan be added to my month to mont plan and he told me the phone was reverted back to full price as of 530pm.

Don't know how true it is though.

    • I just put an order in on my month to month plan online and it went through $12.45 pm for 24mths. (White only though)

Reference number has come through as well

    • Just rang up and was also informed that it has gone back to full price

      You snooze you lose

      • True, was debating the whole day if I really needed it, then I just saved myself $300 if the offer isn't there anymore.

        • Well I put mine on 24 months so I only spend $12.45. Which is…nothing if compare to fishing out $300 at the same time. $300 over 24 months? That's so amazing. And this phone is top android from so many forums and reviews and for this price is no brainer!

      • Picked two phones up and filled some paperwork at Bondi Junction at around 6pm.

They couldn't complete the process on the in-store PC's since the price was listed at $861 and they couldn't change/override it. But when they took it to the counter, it scanned at $299 each and could sell it that way.

  • Went to Voda at SYD international arrivals, the lady there said they didn't have it

  • Uhh..tried doing it online….what's a payout fee?

Do I gotta pay that on top of the 12.45 a month (or 300 total) to get that phone?

    • No payout fee. But if you are doing it now then below should havr a $0 payout fee.

  • Using a friend's number. 7months left, $91 payout fee.

Doesn't make sense. Unless they expect you to pay off the first handset outright before they let you get the second one (This Moto)

    • I have 5 months left with IPhone 6 Plus 128G. Payout fee is $15. Even call center staff was surprised.

  • +1

Another brainer teaser for you Ozgeniuses
Now that I am signed up on a month to month plan with phone, I do not wish to pay the payout fee after first month, can i change my plan to $0 plan and keep paying $12.45/month over 24 months? Saves me forking out $300 at once?

  • +1

Just bought it today outright for $299. No need to do any contract.free $2 sim as well. Only black available

  • Was told my online orders last night for the white handset wont be filled due to lack of stock. If your ordered online it's worth checking to see whether your order will be filled. If not, ask them to cancel the order and order the black handset (stock permitting)

    • That freekin sucks man. Should've been fulfilled since you're probably among the first lot of oz bargainer to place an order.

      • I placed 1 order at 7pm then another at 8pm. I think I have successfully changed my order over to a black handset, but not 100% sure. I don't think even Vodafone are sure themselves.

Can someone point me to Whirlpool discussion thread?

  • If I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S5, how big a difference would this make for me? Is it much of an upgrade? Overall I'm pretty happy with the S5 but disappointed by the camera.

    • I also have a note 4. Not sure if it's worth the upgrade for s5 and note 4… I do like the amoled screen on samsung series. But then, I don't know much about how powerful different chipsets series are lol

  • i have an Z2, not sure if worth upgrading as i am with virgin and still have 10 months left in my contract

    • +1

I don't think so. I have used Z2 before and its beast phone.

      • Yes it has been a great phone so far. I dont know why i want to buy this moto X, Probably because it is cheap. Oh well, its back to full price now. I don't need to think a bout it any more

  • +2

    Back to original price.

    • +1

      What's the original outright price?

    • Is that mean $299 was On Sprcial or Price Error?

      • 299 might have been a one-day hidden special sort of thing…

Or they might have reverted it to original price because the stock at key stores has already been cleaned out, and the rest might be moved to their prepaid lineup eventually…

  • Guys,

Anyone wanting to exchange white one for black. I wanted to order a white one for wifey but could not. I am based in Melbourne by the way.

  • I've started an order at Canberra Civic Vodafone but decided not to complete it - if these are no longer available elsewhere and you're keen, feel free to PM me.

    • Me pls. Will pm ya.

I managed to pick up two in-store this afternoon each on a $30 sim-only plan, just in the nick of time in seems! Mother's Day gift sorted, plus a new phone for me too!

    Thanks so much OP!

  • Haven't read all the comments from this arvo but when I called to order mine they said they had 84 black ones left. That was at about 4:30pm.

    • -1

I believe the problem is more that the price has gone back up. Not sure to what price though but you can no longer get it for $329 ($299 for the lucky ones).

  • +1

I just asked two Vodafone-customer friends to check, and it's still showing as $298.80 on a payment plan online. It's not too late!

  • just try to order online by payment plan. still showing $298 but only white colour

    • I want the white one so bad but I cant get one because I am from another country, and with my visa they dont allow me to process online.

      • i borrowed my international student visa friend's acc and click the upgrade button then choose the phone then choose phone only option…, last night i have the same problem like you. nut today is ok. i want the black one but no more stock.

        • really? can u give me more details on this?

    • How did you go that? I'm trying to get the white one myself but wont let me add the phone to cart without a plan and I can't add the phone to the cart with a 1 month prepaid either.

  • +1

Has anyone who ordered online got anything showing in their tracking? http://www.vodafone.com.au/tracking. I ordered last night and was hoping they'd ship it today to meet the 2-3 day turnaround time.

    • +1

I ordered in the morning 11am from call center, now shows ON ITS WAY with Aupost Express

      • I ordered mine in store this morning and although it's also through Express Post, it's only "Shipping information received by Australia Post".

        • +1

Vodafone are dead to me. How can they not ship orders for people who ordered online as soon as the deal came out, and then people who ring up the next day jump ahead and get their order. Unfortunately this isn't the first time I've had issues like this with ordering with them.

  • Pity it's over but with phones like RMN3Pro, the despair should be minimal.

  • +1

It's now $816 when you upgrade online.

  • +2

I really do wonder if the $299 was a mistake, or if it was meant to be a clearance price but they've now changed their mind because of push-back from dealers or becuase they oversold, etc. Who knows. I hope all the existing online/phone orders get fullfilled. My phone order was shipped yesterday, but it hasn't been picked up yet by Australia Post. I'll wait until it gets picked up before I start getting excited. Now I'm glad I decided to order over the phone yesterday and not wait to go into store today (yesterday was a public holiday in QLD). I imagine there'll be a few interesting discussions with customer in QLD stores this morning. It sucks that their are people instantly selling these online for double-profit, but it's a free market I guess.

    • When I went back a third time (!) to the store to get my phone I asked the sales rep and he said it was a special price as they are clearing stock for space for new models n that it's a great price cos it's really an $800 phone. When I rang at around 10:30am the warehouse had abt 300 left. I would imagine they have cleared enough stock from Ozbargainers yesterday! They clearly don't know the power of Ozbargain!!! Maybe they didn't realise they could have sold it at higher price margin? Them being overstocked is probably a reflection of how poorly managed the release of this phone was. He said they don't sell phones outright but they did for the first time when it was released due to the social media debacle! Was going to get hubby one today but guess it's too late now >_<

  • Got my order in during lunch time in the QVB store yesterday.

Spec wise this phone is top notch. Funny not so many phones on the market has QHD 5.7 display with 3gb Ram and also for Band 28. In fact according to GSMarena phone finder only 10, none are at this price level.

Lets hope it is as good as reviews said…….

  • Can't figure out this deal.

On the phone to Vodafone, they refused to let me buy the phone without signing up to a $30 a month 2 year contract.

Trying to log in online - it tells me their website is down. Hopeless.

To one of you guys that bought 2 of these phones, if someone wants to make an extra $50 without the hassle of Ebay PM me - I would love to buy your spare!

    • As recent as 2nd April an unopened was sold on ebay for $650.

      $50 extra?? LOL

      • +1

        Thanks for your help.

  • so anyone confirm deal is gone? not wanting to waste time going into a store if it is.. QLD here so..

  • +2

    Deal's off.

    Back to $816 online.

    • Yup, just called the sales team. This was a one day deal from what they told me… I'm assuming they had a lot of calls for this as they knew what I wanted straight away lol.

    • Yeah just decided to check again and it's back to regular price.

  • If anyone has a white one in Sydney and prefers to swap for black, let me know. Unopened box. Thanks!

    • I have a white one on order and would prefer black. If you can wait a day or two for me to receive it I'd be happy to swap.

    • ah scrub that - Vodafone just said they don't have stock of white so will be delivering black anyway

      • Thanks anyway, baz123. I bought one for MIL - she will likely want a case so I will colour change it that way!

Did you get a black one delivered?

My black one's still in the box unopened and the white one has had two software updates, to date.

      • +1

Hopefully they don't sent out a Moto X Play 16Gb to you instead!! That's what they did to me. Swap from white to black, and then delivered the Play!

Now I have to wait until the return package arrived and return the phone.

They have to confirm receipt before they deal with the mess. I'm guessing that they will cancel the contract and then offer me whats available with a new contract at a higher rate.

        • I ended up going into a store and getting black x style there - seemed safer than leaving it to chance!
