Motorola Moto X Style (Unlocked & Unbranded), $299 from Vodafone (When Added to Plan)

2710

Was in my local Vodafone store doing an upgrade and found out about this bargain.

So Vodafone which had the X Style as an exclusive have dropped the RRP on the device to $299

From what I have been told not every store has stock and they are no longer able to order them in however Online has 100's of units remaining.
There are 2 ways to get the device (other than getting on a plan of course, which is $0 on every plan at Vodafone)

1) Added to a Vodafone Plan as an installment (cheaper this way) $12.45 per month for 24m or $24.90 per month for 12 months You can also get Vodafone to add to your plan in 1 installment of $299

2) REMOVED: Lots of feedback indicating that Stores are unable to sell outright, phone must be added to new or existing plan, have removed this info to prevent disappointment, you can try and find Outright.. but expect resistance.

I was happy to add the phone to my existing plan for the 12m

in store you can ONLY get the black model (one i got)
if you are a Vodafone customer and are going option 1 above, you can call them or go online and get the White Model if your prefer.

Stock is showing as 2-3 days from order approval at moment so still plenty in stock

Not a bad phone for the price.. battery is not awful but not awesome. (one day max apparently)

        • @ww: cool! so the phone is totally unlocked out of the box (with just vodafone branding/apps)? tried another network sim?

        • @ponyo: I don't know yet. I can't turn it on. Not sure if it's low in battery.

        • @ponyo: it's working perfectly with Telstra sim. Unlocked, I don't see any Vodafone branding/apps at all.

        • Same ….month by month for my son and he can work it out.

        • @ww: thanks mate. so to summarise; first you ask for a BYO sim only plan and then say you want to add the X style as an outright phone. just want to get my script right when I walk up to my local voda store guns blazin'

        • @ponyo:

Ask for both at same time… Or you will hit the 90 day issue.
Say I want a sim only and a device on instalments that way they credit check you for both at same time and avoid the 90 day issue.

        • @jimbobaus: This.

  • Errrr, should i get it or wait for the new nexus?

    • +3

get this if you can just upgrade just the phone on 24 months. Is a pure bargain for that "$298" price.

      • I made my move and bought it with $30 sim only plan, A Bargain!

I got the 2nd last white one at Westfield Carousal, Cannington, Perth.
There are 2 Vodafone stores, one only stock black other only stock while.

edited: it said white on the box but when i open it WoW bamboo even better.

  • Im currently on a sim only month to month plan with Vodafone atm. I've just upgrade it to 6 months contract for $49.83 which works out to be roughly $300 for the Moto X also.

Does that mean my number is now lock in with Vodafone sim for another 6 months due to the mobile handset right? Damn, was just thinking of switching to Vaya mobile. Forgot about that!

    • +1

      You can port out
They will charge you the remaining cost of the handset on your final bill.

      • awesome! Thanks mate

    • +1

switching to Vaya mobile. Forget about that!

  • +2

    Anyone in SA found any?

    • I'd like to know too!…. online it's $40 x 24 mths !

      • tried marion they have it but won't sell outright.. trying to get through to the other stores is a pain in the arse

        • op has edited the post, you cant get it outright but u can get it with a $30 sim only month to month plan.

        • @rowanb1 how much was the plan they offered? I called Colonnades store & they're Telechoice, so not sure if deal is available! Yes, pain in the arse, this wild goose chase.

        • @oldrocker: i didn't ask about a plan but one of the other stores said they could do it on the $30 SIM. I think it was Glenelg.

        • I got it from Marion

        • @Buff: oh well, gone now..

  • solved

  • vodafone customer service is weird. i am a postpaid plan and wanted to add this handset as an additional handset but they could not do it.

they are saying my plan doesnt exist anymore and they cant do anything with it.

i will go voda store tomorrow morning and see how things go there.

    • do you know how to find out which branches is dealers, and which is owned by the company? as the main post mentioned the dealers might not have the deal.

      • +1

        I believe "select" is dealer.

    • I got told something similar - that I can only "buy" it if I go onto a new plan - I want to buy it outright and they still can't help me without upgrading my current plan to a new one that costs more with less inclusions :-(

      • +1

        Go to a store

Tell them you want to "add a phone" they will sell you the phone on instalments on your current plan
thats what i did.. my plan is OLD! i got the phone added but kept the old plan.

call centre is paid to upsell you to new plans i assume

As mentioned on Whirlpool.. stores can order for you if they dont have stock and it gets delivered to you direct (same as ordering online but they do the order for you)

        • Thanks for the advice, but I already tried that - I went to three stores earlier this afternoon and they either couldn't be bothered or were clueless as to how to do it…

    • Any stores open tomorrow? Westfields in QLD are all closed I think

  • Tempting, I'm on the look out for phones to replace my 5S

  • +1

I'm on a plan with voda and got the white x style about six months ago. This deal is an absolute steal, and I wish I could somehow retroactively get it. I love my x style, and recommend it to anyone. It's a great flagship phone with a lot of nice small touches. It has the smallest bezel-to-screen ratio of any phone on the market. It is also one of the handful of android phones that can run HD Netflix.

Forgot another thing I love: It has a propriety charging system called"TurboPower". It'll still charge fast on any Qualcomm 2.0 charger, but if you use their charger it's noticeably faster.

  • Why does it always tell me that their online system is down???? ; (

  • Sorry, our system is currently down. Try again soon, or call 1300 301 464 to upgrade over the phone (standard call rates apply).

    • Ignore the system is currently down error. Just type your phone number and request a code.

      • still got the same message system down

  • +1

Shop -> Vodafone customers -> Upgrade will result in white only. To get the black version go Shop -> Devices -> Mobile Phones.

    Great deal thanks OP.

  • +1

Wow great deal. Going to go to Vodafone first thing tomorrow morning, hope I can grab one outright (I'm with Optus prepaid)

  • +2

could someone let me know which Vodafone shop do sell in Sydney area, I need to upgrade my phone, thanks in advance.

  • Thanks OP! Ordered, but the 6 and 12 month payment settings wouldn't stick for some reason. Kept defaulting to 24 months. Oh well, it works out to be the same anyway.

    • +1

Why opt for the anything but 24 anyways? 24 is the cheapest financially.

      • $12.45 x24 vs $24.90 x12. Looks the same to me.

        • +1

I think Mr Spaghetti might have interest in mind i.e. You're paying in smaller installments/increments so you can keep the money in your savings account or offset account to accrue more/owe less interest

  • So.. I guess I could sign up online, them cancel the next day to get the phone for $339

    • Some comments suggest you'll need to remain a customer for 90 days prior to ordering.

      • I looked it up on whirlpool and apparently if you go on store and say you want sim only with device they can credit check you for both on spot. Over phone they need you to activate sim. Vodafone has a no second service within 90 days policy of you apply for only a sim. So apply for both at once and you can do it (according to comments on whirlpool)

        • Great info, thanks.

        • @KaptnKaos:

          Whirlpool users have also stated
that if you go into a store and they don't have stock they can have phone sent out to you (at home work etc) same as if you ordered online but done by store, phone and sim would arrive together

Have updated post to reflectthis information

    • Yes, that's what I've been told.

  • My G4 just developed the bootloop issue…bought ebay so a minimum 8 week turnaround…Need a backup.

  • I bought a Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro yesterday.
This made me slightly rethink my purchase. ;O

    • Where about?

    • +5

me too. but the xiaomi will have better battery, fingerprint and metal body. Gaming performance better on xiaomi since it is only 1080p. reading mode and sunlight display on the xiaomi. battery on this moto is mediocre, since the screen res is too high and battery is only 3000mah

      • +1

glad to have some reassurance of my purchase.
        we chose well :D

      • +1

…and IR blaster. Thought it was gimmick until I downloaded the Peel Smart Remote app. My days of fumbling with different remote controls are now over. Still would be nice to get this Moto phone for $299 though if you are lucky enough.

  • All i keep getting is systems down??

    • Try Firefox, when I using Safari I'm experiencing login issue.

  • LG4 or This? whats the advantages and disadvantages of it?

    • +1

I was thinking the same thing.

G4 grey import = non-existent warranty, bootloop problems

X style = local stock, warranty, half the price

verdict : its a nobrainer Moto

      • moto got the front firing speakers too

  • anyone know a shop on the gold coast I can get one. They're not gonna be open tomorrow (labour day) right??

    • Chance of that would be ~0%.

  • Wont let you do 6 months online, reverts to 24 months

    • Pop into a store, if they dont have stock they can order from the online stock and have it sent to you direct (according to whirlpool comments)

      • thanks. I tried again, and this time 6 months worked online. Hopefully they honour it. Bit of an impulse buy, but I think it will be a nice upgrade from my htc m7

    • can you show me the link online? why on mine, it only show min $40/month?

  • Any way to get it outright online if you don't have a plan with them?

    • Nope.. only from a store for cold hard cash..if they will sell it you :)

  • +1

Thanks OP. Managed to add this to all services on my account.

  • Tried to give them a call and the guy from customer care told me they have no white one in stock and told me to check in stores as they have no way to check their stocks at stores. And according to the main post, in stores they only have black. anyone knows how to get the white one without contract? Please let me know if u have solution. Thanks.

    • Pretty much confirmed white/bamboo is sold out.. and stores never stocked the white :(
Chances are pretty slim it seems

      • +1

That just goes to show how clueless Vodafone are - I just got offered white a few minutes ago via online chat - hahaha
(didn't take it because they wanted me to start a new plan)

PS: It's a great deal jimboaus - thanks for posting it :-)

        • well the point is i dont want it with the contract, otherwise we can get it online, with a plan of course.

  • +1

thanks OP, ordered 1 white and 1 black.

  • -1

Why not just get the $40 plan so you get the phone "free"?

    • +7

$40 plan only gives you 500mb data and then you're stuck on a 24 month contract. Much cheaper to get the phone for $300 and go on a $15 aldi pre-paid where you get 1.5gb.

      • +1

$15 aldi plan gets you 500MB only.

        • My mistake, that's the $20 aldi plan.

Still better value to buy the phone outright and go on the $20 plan for 24 months ($780) than to go on the $40 plan for the same amount of time($960).

  • +1

With $12.45 plan, How much data, calls and SMS can you get?

    • +2

It's phone only. Nothing else included.

      • Thanks

      • So is it locked to Vodafone with contract? Buy outright, will the phone be unlocked?

        • +2

phone is unlocked no matter how u get it

  • So Queenslander that is not with Vodafone how to get this phone today?

    • We don't. Frustrating but that's how the world works I guess.

      • +1

:( Guess by end of today, Phones in vodafone warehouse will be completely out. We could only try store stock tomorrow.

      • Now that's a first world problem: Having a public holiday.

        • Not all of us are full time workers who get paid for them. A public holiday for me means that I have to budget that little bit harsher. I would rather just work.

  • Ordered white only online as an upgrade to existing Vodafone plan

  • This is an amazing prize on a great phone. I have this, and it is sad about the lack of finger print scanning. The camera is quite average as well. The screen is beautiful, it doesn't feel too big in my hands (although I have large hands, and it is quite slippery)

  • Is moto x style dual sim capable?

  • +1

    North Sydney out of stock.

  • -1

If anyone in Melbourne can point me to somewhere I can buy one outright please let me know! I'm calling all the stores listed and no one is bothering to answer.

    • I just got one from the kiosk in fountain gate shopping centre. Black only. Not outright.

  • So i just called Camberwell (VIC), they have one in stock, but they said they cannot sell it outright to me. Need to be on a plan…
