Motorola Moto X Style (Unlocked & Unbranded), $299 from Vodafone (When Added to Plan)

2710

Was in my local Vodafone store doing an upgrade and found out about this bargain.

So Vodafone which had the X Style as an exclusive have dropped the RRP on the device to $299

From what I have been told not every store has stock and they are no longer able to order them in however Online has 100's of units remaining.
There are 2 ways to get the device (other than getting on a plan of course, which is $0 on every plan at Vodafone)

1) Added to a Vodafone Plan as an installment (cheaper this way) $12.45 per month for 24m or $24.90 per month for 12 months You can also get Vodafone to add to your plan in 1 installment of $299

2) REMOVED: Lots of feedback indicating that Stores are unable to sell outright, phone must be added to new or existing plan, have removed this info to prevent disappointment, you can try and find Outright.. but expect resistance.

I was happy to add the phone to my existing plan for the 12m

in store you can ONLY get the black model (one i got)
if you are a Vodafone customer and are going option 1 above, you can call them or go online and get the White Model if your prefer.

Stock is showing as 2-3 days from order approval at moment so still plenty in stock

Not a bad phone for the price.. battery is not awful but not awesome. (one day max apparently)

  • Anyone tried in store today?

    • They all have to go through the same order system to create the order for you. So if the price is not in the system anymore, it can't be done

  • +1

Received phone this morning. Ordered online on Sunday. Thanks OP!

  • +7

Queenslanders ripped off. Oh well, we get to save $299. Bargain

  • They still have it for sim-only price +$10/month on a contract online. White/bamboo only.

e.g. $40/month x $24 = $960 total with 2 years unlimited calls and 500MB/month. Not bad if you are willing to commit.

    • +1

500mb per month? i'm not gonna survive with that for 24months =D

  • Yeah I booked to buy one from north Ryde store today… The person in store called now to cancel as the price was corrected over night… He mentioned it was a price error….

    • +1

You made a booking to go to the Vodafone store?

  • +1

    Lol… let the ebaying begin.

    and gumtree

    • Were that white with wood back cover also Australia stock? Damn that looks nice!!

Anyone interested in a swap with black???

    • at least some of them are happy with $30/50 profit.

      • lol… how muchare ebay fees these days? I'd be happy to buy them off their hands CoD if they are willing to sell it for 30 to 50 profit lol

  • Went on the online chat to order this today, rep said the deal is over. Offered me the phone for $816 or $34 per month over 24 months.

Reckon I can still walk into a store and try there?

    • As someone said, they order through the same system so highly unlikely… also most of the stores are OoS.

  • I just picked up mine form Marion SA Vodaphone store for $299

Any recommendations for a good case and a screen protector?

    • When did you order it I thought the deal is expired now?

    • +2

Since there is a bumper case included in the box, I didnt order any case but good to know if there is a good one.

I ordered this screen protector http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/151987186829
But Its hard to tell if good or not as they all looks same……

      • Thanks man just placed my order.

    • Does it mean the deal is still valid?

      • May be store only… Call before

    • did you buy outright or on a plan?

      • Outright

    • Any recommendations for a good case and a screen protector?

I recommend you put the bumper on, at least for a few weeks. It would be a shame to cover the beautiful existing case with anything more.
That will give much better protection from falls than any thin film applied.

To me, screen protectors belong back in the days of plastic screens, which were scratched more easily, but less prone to breakinmg.

  • Like an hr ago…. It might be still valid in store. I can show you my receipt of required?

    • Hi can you show me receipt? Thanks!

        • Is that an upgrade or did you get a new plan? Because the Moto X Style is free on the $40 plans and above from what I remember.

        • I kept my Sim only plan untouched.

        • @Buff: You are lucky they changed manually and the shop still honour it. I went in just an hour ago sign the month by month plan while stating from the start and again and again before I sign that I will only sign the plan if the phone is 299. Yes, they said when it is time to do the upgrade to get the phone for 299 they said the price changed to 800+. Now I am stuck with a plan and no phone.

        • +2

@fullmetal87: they should still honor it. Bad Customer service. 👎

        • Curiously, I went in to the store I bought it from yesterday (Hay st Perth) and the same sales rep advised that it was a pricing error. In which I responded "oh really" and he said yeh sometimes these things happen or something like that…although yesterday he told me it was due to being overstocked. So yes, who knows! Was the $299 special actually advertised anywhere? Yay that yours being honoured by that store! :)

        • +1

          @fullmetal87:

If they misrepresented what they were selling, you are not "stuck with a plan" - demand a refund/annulment since what you received was significantly different to what was promised…

Get the TIO involved if you have to, but just mentioning that option should be enough to prompt them to action over a month by month contract.

        • +1

@oz-dave: Thanks for the information, I finally managed to cancel after going to the store calling with the store rep to Vodafone customer service. This is the situation, at 03-05-2016 they changed the price on their system but not their pricing matrix. Apparently, 30 mins after I left the store around 12pm, the store reps received an email telling them the 819 price is with immediate effect. Vodafone refused to admit it is their mistake. They don't have a process, they update the system before official statement is announced.

Anyway, for those who recently signed a plan to buy this phone you can cancel the plan and pay for any usage used if any and save the 30 bucks.

    • Can you please PM me how did you managed deal? Just trying to match same deal

  • Mine was delivered just then. Updating system software now.

    • Update to Marshmallow?

      • Yep, updated to 6.0.

        • I will flip a coin to decide whether to update now or leave it a few months. From various web reviews, the disadvantages still outweigh the advantages :(

  • I'm thinking I'll probably receive my black one sometime today. Kind of wishing I ordered the white though! Anyone in the Melbourne area wanting to swap their white for black?

  • Had my phone delivered today.
Phone was facing down with battery already in it. Same with you guys too?

    • +4

The battery is not even removable..

    • +1

      Yes.

  • If anyone has one in white they want to get rid of please PM me as I couldn't get the phone yesterday without going on a plan or outright.

  • OK thanks guys.

  • Saw on youtube, they come with a TPU gel case, but seems weird that is a full back cover, could be hard to take good photos if you use the back flash.

  • yep so the price went up today back to $819, so if you lived in QLD like myself and you could go in yesterday to buy one you missed out. I'm so sad face right now, they literally were doing the contract up and it said $819 and he was like sorry man the price went up today. Who wants to sell one???

  • +2

I bought one for myself yesterday…just as I was about to unlock my car and drive off, I remembered my friend whose S4 is about to die any day…I called her and she looked up the specs for the device, and nek minnit I was running back the length of Highpoint SC to make it to the VF store just before closing time…

I had bought the last bamboo coloured one, but knowing my friend, she's still going "kinda sorta" between bamboo and black, so I can't put any of them to use till she takes her pick…

    /Coolstory

    • more than happy to swap your white for black :)

      • I think my friend will pick white according to Murphy's law lol

    • i bought one yesterday at 11 am, they said only black avail. :0

      • I saw the white one with the sales guy and liked it… But now I'll have to settle for black anyway because the white has been claimed by my best friend haha

  • So the black one, is it a silicone/rubber type of grip for the back?

  • +2

For those ppl who ordered White model online, be prepared to have your order failed as white has run out in VF warehouse. What you can do however is to talk to Vodafone live chat and they can cancel your existing order and put in an order for a black one instead, at the same price.

    • How do do you talk to Vodafone live chat online? I cannot seem to find it on their main website? Can someone please give me a link or tell me where to go?

      • Log in, soon enough you get an annoying splash screen with "Chat?" on it. You'll need a browser with flash compatibility.

    • Tried live chat, and they refuse to offer the black one for the same price $299 and ask me to keep waiting for the white one.Not happy

      • I was told the handset was end of line, so once stock was depleted no more would be ordered.

        • So did you ended up getting the black one you reordered?

It's a shame that some of us that put an order online on Sunday missed out yet people that put an order in over the phone through call centre gets it (even white stock).

          Ahh well

        • If that was the case they wouldn't still be selling it for 800 plus.

        • @orange123:
It's what the staff told me too and that if there was a problem with the phone, we would get a Nexus 6P as a replacement.

        • @ChillBro:
Bummer.. So how do you know if your order isn't coming through? My status still hasn't changed.

        • @orange123:
Mate, I've no idea since I did mine in store. Have you tried calling them?

        • @ChillBro:

Can't be bothered for their mumbo jumbo. I'll just wait it out and complain once I get notification.

        • @orange123:
Yeah that usually works. You might even get upgraded to a Nexus 6P if that's your thing.

        • @Pepsii: Yes I did. Looks like I got in whilst stock was still available.

        • @ChillBro:
          NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO……

the only issue with 6P is lack of microsd…

        • +3

          @mooreshady:
True although I'd give that up for 6P's better battery, thinness, AMOLED screen, camera and fingerprint sensor. I'd happily trade my Moto X Style for a 6P.

    • I ordered white as well and my order failed, I didn't receive any email notification, I only happen to know when I asked the
support guys through chat about the status of my order. They said their stock was exhausted and couldn't fulfill the order. Problem is my account now is locked-up to 6months and couldn't make any upgrade online due to their system still detecting that I just upgraded. The chat support have to raise a ticket to the backend team to update the status of my plan.

    • same thing here. the person I chatted with will put a new order for black once my existing orders has been cancelled. unfortunately cancellation of order need some clearance which can be completed by tomorrow.

  • Anyone have any luck updating OS over mobile , I want to use the free data i have for two months but says over wifi only? on sammy and htc I could check a box to say update over mobile data?

    Thanks

It is a great phone though, like it a lot!

    • +1

Put your data sim back into old phone, enable WIFI Hotspot, logon with your X via WIFI.

      • +1

You'll also need to go into settings->data usage and then go to the 3 dot menu, tap network restrictions and unrestrict that hotspot.

By default it won't update apps or OS over hotspotted connections.

        • the simple things…i didn't have the same size sim as it was a new one..but this how i updated my second one wen i got home, thanks!

  • +5

OP - Thanks for this deal! Absolutely fantastic….. I raced in the very next day after seeing your post and was luck enough to pick up a phone. An incredible deal when you look at phone specs. Thanks so much!

  • Did anyone's Moto X from a phone order get picked up by Australia Post yesterday? Mine wasn't… kind of weird.

  • Has anyone received their white colour phone? The vodafone online tracking is still blank with no details…

    • Mines still blank as well, from what I've read they're out of stock, I'm in no rush so I'll just wait and see what happens and only kick up fuss if it gets cancelled.

    • Expect a cancellation, I had the same issue yesterday where the tracking page is blank. I've chatted with them and they said my order failed because they don't have a stock. Read my post above.

      • If you did put through online order for White, Live Chat with them and demand Black one for same price or contact TIO for escalation.

    • +1

If you ordered White colour, you'd better do Online Chat with them asap and ask them to re-order Black one for the same price. This is what I did

      • Go to Vodafone Contact Us page and wait for popup for Live Chat
      • Give them order number UPxxxx and tell them to check it because the White colour is out of stock
      • They will check and tell you order failed, you can tell them you are not happy with this and ask them to cancel that order and re-submit order for Black colour for the same price.
      • Make sure to ask them to clearly note it in the system that the phone is on $12.45 pm and that will be the payout figure if you terminate it.
This is just in case they give you credit to bring down the payment figure from $34 and that credit will not be included in the payout calculation x remaining months.

You will get the new order number within 1 day.

      • i did something similar, guy said they have about 30 in stock of the black handsets.

      • I had the white on order too.

Got live Chat, and got passed around a few times. They couldn't do anything for me online, but have sent me an email and will call to confirm when they can cancel and put an order in for the black one.

They said it should be done by tomorrow…

Not very confident, but then, not really too fussed :D

        • I was just on live chat and was told black is not available. Yesterday I was able to get the order for my white handset cancelled and resubmitted an order for the black handset. Whilst the order went through ok they don't have stock to fill the order. I'd say it's too late to do anything now.

        • FWIW, the first guy I spoke to on live chat said that black was not available too, so he transferred me to the upgrades team.

That person went away to see if there's any other handsets he can offer, and then came back and said they might be able to get a black. I left it at that and gave him my details so he can contact me back. He sent a notification email immediately

        • I was told the same thing that new order will be done tomorrow. So probably they do the it in batches.
I was even told that they new stocks for the black just came in when I chatted yesterday. I also got an email guaranteeing that I will be getting the black at the same price. fingers cross..

        • After a few times live chat, they told me they run out of stock and will not stock the phone anymore. I believe the price is low due to stock clearance. Whoever order white online, eventually will not get the phone. So i guess the deal is over.

        • @EdwardLim:
seems no more stocks. just received an email offering either sony m5, samsung s5 or samsung a5 As a replacement

        • +1

          @ronaldo0917:
Well that sucks, hardly the equivalent

        • @ronaldo0917:

When did you order your phone?

        • I'll just live without a replacement if that's the case…
