Three Ceramic Knives (5" 4" 3") US $6.83, Approx AU $9, with Free Shipping from AliExpress

710

Excellent price for 3 ceramic knives.
I ordered them on April 24, picked up from the post office today!
Knives were packed in a styrofoam box and bubble wrap.
The quality seems very good and they are razor sharp.

Don't forget (like I always do) 2.40% cashback from Cashrewards.

  • can you bring things like these into Australia?

Do the blades snap easy if there is sideways pressure on them or do the bend a little like metal blades.

    • +1

Pretty sure you can bring them to Australia.
Blades don't bend and are quite brittle. it's not recommended to cut hard food such as frozen foods, bones etc.

      • Hmmmm….. "Pretty sure you can bring them to Australia."
but you said in the original description that you just picked your up from the Post office, so presumably you should know?

        • You can buy ceramic knifes locally, Aldi often sells them.
So yes, I'm pretty sure it's not prohibited to import them to Australia.

        • I was under the impression that ceramic knives in Australia were required to contain metal of some sort so that they would show up on metal detectors, although I just had a quick search and I can't find anything that says they can't be imported.

        • @lbft:
I bought a set of similar ceramic knives from Aliexpress a year ago, no issues.

    • +5

Snap easily with sideways pressure? Are you after a prison shank?

I need to make sure I can twist the knife without it breaking off into my victi… my steak. I would like to use it several times.

        • Would you like for it to be untraceable and not retain your finger prints?

    • I believe that usually they will put metal inside ceramic blades, so you cannot bring things like these into Australia in your carry-on luggage. They will be detected by the airport security.

    • Do the blades snap easy if there is sideways pressure on them or do the bend a little like metal blades.

The simple answer is no, if using my Chinese sourced knives 5 years ago as an example.
Mine were the similar cheap Chinese knives, cost similar to this post in China. I used them often to cut fruits and veggies, and they stayed sharp. So far none of them snapped, but they have chipped a bit(very small chips, and do not impact the cutting).
That said, they are easier to snap than steel. so use with caution.

can you bring things like these into Australia?

No you can't, for the same reason you can't buy knives at Coles.

PVA in prison: "Bro, i need a shank" "I've only got ceramic today" "Perfect!".

      • Not sure if sarcastic. Coles sells wiltshire knives

        • Sorry, i forgot to put in the smiley face.
          Keep forgetting the smiley face.

    they are razor sharp.

Ceramic knives are sharp but not razor sharp. I have the Kyocera from Japan. You can work a good quality steel blade to make it sharper than a ceramic knife but it won't stay sharp for as long. Ceramic is brittle and chips easily but they are good for slicing fruit, vegetable and meat very thinly because of their light weight and thin edge. The downside is you can only sharpen them with a diamond encrusted sharpener.

    • oh really? I thought u cant/not supposed to sharpen ceramic knives… I have one of those diamond sharpener from OZB a while back called "fubi" or something…u reckon it would work?

      • Kyocera charges a small fee to resharpen their knives as a post-sale service. There is no harm in trying out your diamond sharper if you do it carefully with steady downward strokes at the same angle as the sharpen surface towards the sharp edge of the knife. Ceramic is tough and will not yield if the material on the sharpener is softer. The only risk is if you do it with force side-way and chip the blade.

  • Picked up a set of these. Great price for ceramics!

  • Enlighten me on why I should get a ceramic knife?

    • +19

It's on the front page. What other reasons do you need?

      • That qualifies as an OzBargain motto.

    • +2

You don't. Life will be just fine without them. /reality.

    • If it's a bargain then why not? Lol

a little off topic but does anyone use alipay? it asks for my passport number when i tried to sign up…

    • I do. I haven't been asked for my passport - or other ID - numbers. All it really achieves is a slightly quicker check-out 'cos you don't need to enter your credit card details every time. It's obviously quite a bit quicker on a mobile phone. If it's not working for you, a credit card 'form fill' with Lastpass in your web browser will be almost as fast.

    • alipay is supposed to be more powerful than paypal. i have an account, but have never been asked for a passport number.

I am an commercial importer of both folding and sheath knives and the only restriction on this type of knife for importation into Australia is that it cannot be sharpened on both sides i.e. a dagger.

  • +7

Do these have Cree Led's built in?

I'll take stab in the dark and guess no..

    • +3

Be careful stabbing in the dark with these, apparently:

      Blade: very sharp

  • AliExpress - you really need some luck to deal with it.

  • thanks OP ! :D

I have purchased from Aliexpress since 3 years ago. My purchased never exceed $50. Parcel has never gone missing to date, however you need to be patient, they usually 'shipped' within 3 days of receiving order and it takes 4 to 6 weeks to arrive in Melb.

I have gone through 3 pairs of ceramic knives. They are very sharp and ideal for slicing meat thinly (for hot pot). The sharpness last 12 months (the most) from my frequent use, goes a bit blunt for slicing meat but still sharp enough for cutting vegies.

  • Cheers OP! Didn't get the set in your link though, got this set for $18.72 instead: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Ceramic-Knife-Set-3-4-5-6-inc… Oooh, black!

    • My black knives only just arrived but look to be excellent. Can't wait to use them :)

    Great for taking on airplanes.

  • Thanks OP

    • Sure about importing these because the border website says this;
Single edged fixed blades are typically allowed into Australia. This includes items like kitchen knives, hunting or fishing knives - border.gov.au(border.gov.au)

      FTFY

      • It says; you might be allowed to bring it with you but I am not sure if you are allowed to import them. You can follow the link or search the government website and read it yourself then fix it for them if they have a problem. On behalf of Malcolm Turnbull, Thanx for your effort!

  • Has the price gone up to US $8.91 or am i missing any coupon code ?

    • Yes, it has gone up.

  • Has anyone's orders been posted?

  • Mine still shows "supplier is processing your order" after over a week.

    Received my knives this morning

  • Got mine yesterday afternoon, Sydney
The tracking link was accurately updated too

  • Should I be worried? Got an email yesterday asking me to confirm delivery, I haven't received it. In South Australia, the tracking seems to show it was delivered yesterday morning to Clayton South, VIC which obviously isn't me, or is it just messed up tracking?

I would wait a few days and then contact the seller. You probably got someone else's tracking number.

      • Ah yeah good point, didn't think of that possibility. Thanks

        • +1

Arrived today, it had a no signature required sticker on it and was put in my mailbox. So it seems like it got counted as 'delivered' when Aus Post took it (after it arrived in Aus) because of that. Thanks OP

  • I give these knives five stars. Very nice! I'd say they are even a great bargain at US$9.

  • Mine have been stuck at "Arrived at facility in destination country, SYDNEY NSW" since 15th of May. Has this happened to anyone? How much longer till it gets delivered to my Sydney mailbox? ;)
