LG G4 Bought from QD eBay in October 2015 Has Died on Me

Hi there folks,

So the LG G4 purchased from Quality Deals has all of the sudden decided to restart itself continuously and now it has died.

I emailed QD on Ebay asking for assistance and to see if I can start the warranty process and to see what they can do for me. I don't think i can dispute the raise a dispute in Paypal coz it's been yonks!

Other than that, what do you guys think i should do? Has anyone had any issues with QD Ebay Warranty?

Hoping for the best.

Thanks

I purchased mine from T-Dimension in June 2015; build date was May 2015. Was working great till a few weeks ago when it started locking and boot loop before refusing to boot at all. Just received it back from T-Dimension today (3 week turnaround back to Hong Kong, paid buy T-Dimension), waiting to see how it is now.

Sounds like you have the same issue which is well known, if your build date is from October 2015 then you should have the updated motherboard.

Guess your build date is pre October; if you're not sure take a look at Serial number first 3 digits tell you build date. eg. 505 (2015/5)

QD will repair your phone under warranty, you are not entitled to a refund or replacement.

    • Same happened to a mate who bought from eglobal and its with them now to fix.

Move on buy a new phone, not an LG. Use new phone. Go through warranty process for old phone.

When fixed, flog it on ebay

I agree. Any phone apart from LG. The software is absolute crap. Had an Optimus 2x for 2 years and it kept on getting stuck in bootloop, bricking and freezing. Never buying LG phones ever again.

Now I have an Xperia Z. Never failed me once and is still going strong. Only issue is with software induced battery drain and issues with overheating (it won't burn you). When the Xperia X comes out, it'll probably be worth taking a look at.

      • xperia is the best and most reliable phone

    try a new battery.
my sons G3 was rebooting and it was the battery, just didnt have enough guts left in it to start the phone up and when the CPU use was high it just shut down and started again. (this was after a year though)
Batteries are cheap and worth a try.

Known issue with G4 sadly. They seemed to have fixed it on their newer builds.

    http://www.androidauthority.com/lg-admits-g4-bootloop-proble…

Only thing you can do is wait for them to allow RMA and you send it to them. They'll have a look at it and repair it then give it back to you. Could take some time.

What a coincidence. Mine too this morning. Fingers crossed qd_au will honour their warranty.

    • Have you contacted them and have you heard back?

      • Yes, I have sent them a message through ebay. Haven't heard back. Not looking good I think, based on what sweaty-penguin has said. Any government organisation we can complain to? https://www.aus61business.com/company/Quality-Deals-Australi…

        • If I don't hear anything in one week, I will have to take things into my own hands. I do have a Sydney address where I posted the first LG G4 I bought from them (Dead ON Arrival) so I will be knocking on that door :)

          You coming along ?? LOL!

        • @alz: Lol. I wish I could. I am in Brisbane. I was on live chat with a LG rep this morning to see if they would fix it. It seems like they won't fix it unless I paid for it. I said that how is it fair that manufacturers of other things have issued recalls and fixed their products when there is a known manufacturer problem but LG refused to do it. I think I might try and complain to OFT and see if I have any luck that way.

I think this is the last time I buy a LG product. Seems like the only Korean manufacturer that hasn't lifted their quality game since the early 2000s.

        • Heads up. Just got my phone back after 55 days.

  • Just a heads up.

I sent mine off under warranty to qd_au.

It has been 6 weeks and I still have no eta or updates as to what is going on.

    • Oh God! I'm never gonna have this fixed.

      • Just got my phone back from QD under warranty.

Took 55 days but its all fixed now, hopefully wont do it again!

        • Is that 55 business days?

  • My G4 also died last Sat, also bought from QD_AU. Just my luck that the Moto X Style sale happened. This goes off to QD_AU for warranty.

    • Have you contacted QD? I haven't heard back from them yet. It has been a few days. If you have heard from them, did you contact them through ebay or directly through email?

      • Yeah haven't heard back as well. I suspect they might be receiving plenty of warranty claim like this.

        • Yeh, same here. They're not responding to any of my emails.

        • @alz: I tried messaging them on ebay. I got a response, but mainly just asking for more info, like whether it has been dropped, water damaged, rooted, etc.

        • @geek001:

Got the same response, seems its a generic one.

        • Ok just got a response and a ticket number, I need to send it to Sydney.

        • @jobski: So did you send message to QD via ebay or you have direct email contact? (I sent my message via eBay on the item under the return section). Haven't heard anything back for the whole week.

        • @daufoo:

Contacted them via their existing ad for LG G4.

        • @jobski: Probably inundated with LG G4 RMA requests. I got a ticket number from them to send it to Sydney. So just be patient I guess. I waited for about 3-4 days before they responded with the initial message. After that, they replied within 24 hours. Also told me the process will take 3-5 weeks depending on LG. But based on Sweaty penguin's comment above, it looks like it will take longer. If you can't live without your phone for that long, perhaps you should consider getting a new phone in the meantime.

  • Mine just died on last weekend as well, also from QD.
Sent 2 emails via ebay to them but still receive no reply.

  • Received this last night, 5 days after making initial contact about my issue:

    Hello,

We are so sorry to know you are having this trouble.
Has the phone been rooted before?
Does it allow you to perform a factory reset at all?
Could you please try charging the phone using a different charger/ adapter/ usb cable to eliminate any charging issues?
Please advise the IMEI of your phone.
We appreciate your information and will do our best to assist you.

I'm not holding my breath. If and once this gets fixed I'm selling the G4 and not going LG ever again!

  • According to qd, my phone's been fixed and should be on the way to me now.

I guess once I get the phone back I'll test it and sell it immediately. Very disappointed with LG and the G4, pathetic battery life, bad ui, and fatal bootloop (Good camera though).

  • Posted mine to Sydney today. They said it could take 3-5 weeks.

    • btw they means 3-5 from when LG receives it.

  • A little update in regards to my G4, I just got it back from QD (posted directly to me from Taiwan via DHL).
Everything seems to work fine at the moment, it's the exact same phone I posted out at the very end of March. So the repair took a little over a month, not too bad.

  • Anyone with the bootloop issue, could you post the first digits of the serial number - 508, 509, 510 and model e.g. H815.
    509 = 2015 September.
Apparently 509 and earlier are most problematic. Would be interesting to see what everyone has as many of us here bought this phone during the eBay sales.

    • Mine is 509.

    • Same here, i think the whole batch was crook. I bought it in September 2015.
It's been a week since i posted my G4, 4 more weeks to go lol.

    • my dad's 601 has bootloop issue…

    • 509 too

  • I'm also in this boat. G4 bought in september last year and has now had the infamous "flashing wifi icon and non functioning bluetooth" hardware fault appear. I've emailed qd_au on eBay and so far had no response after 4 days.
    Incidentally also a 509 phone.

    • Funny my Asus Zenfone 2 purchased from qd also has broken WiFi and Bluetooth and bootloop too.

  • Out of interest I just contacted LG Australia and asked about getting my phone repaired at a service centre in Australia. They were very helpful up until they realised the phone has been bought on eBay from qd_au (they actually mentioned him by name) right after I gave them the IMEI and SN of my phone. Then they wouldn't touch it and wanted nothing to do with me :)

    • This is normal, gray imports are usually never serviced by Australian service centres as they're not Australian stock.

You might ask why, LG is an international company? It's simply because all Australian delivered stock have gone through and passed Australian standards(forgot the exact rule). International stock(gray imports) are usually built according to other country regulations and MAY differ from Australian standards. This is the price you pay for sourcing gray imports as these have not gone to Australia the 'proper way'

The RRP price you pay for in Australia includes warranty in Australia not overseas and vice versa for gray imports.

      • I realise this. However the $500 I saved on the price makes it a no brainer. The qd_au warranty process, while protracted, got my phone fixed and so I am happy. There is really no reason why this phone should be double the price in Australia of the same phone in Taiwan. They are all made in the same factory. Australia tax at it's finest. I would have zero reservations about buying a grey import again.

        • Absolutely and you are right, if the difference is significant I buy gray imports as well. But sometimes if its only 100-200 difference and I'm going on holidays(TRS) I'll always buy aussie stock.

FYI Samsung Australia has 2 Years warranty on their mobiles, while grey import will always have one, just a thought for any future purchases.

Also all Australian stock is covered under ACCC law, which if it fails right after warranty period, you can still get it repaired for free depending on the circumstances.

  • Merged from LG G4 Warranty Claim Quality Deals

    Hello there,
I purchased a phone through Quality Deals Ebay Store when it was on special (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/212906).
Since yesterday, without any reason, the phone restarted itself and now it stop working. Does not even start completely. Just stay at LG Logo.

I once hard reset but still phone is not working. By reading their Warranty & return claim webpage(http://stores.ebay.com.au/QD-Shopping-Centre/Warranty-and-Re…), they ask to email them. However, they did not provide us with any email.
i contacted through ebay store but they haven't replied yet.
Wondering if anyone already gone through warranty claim process through them if can highlight the process would be much appreciated.

    • You may want to try the site search next time.. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/245953

      • Thanks mate,
I couldn't found it earlier… going to read it now..
        Cheers

Update: No email address provided :(

      • Post has been merged.

  • Does anyone have email address for qd_au?? I got the boot loop issue as well….

    • Try the email address of the seller from the Paypal invoice. Personally, I got a reponse from them by messaging them through ebay. They may take a few days to respond to you.

      • I just got a reply from qd_au now. I messaged them through ebay using the "Contact seller" option from the record of my phone sale in the "purchases" list in MyEbay.

        • Thanks mate,
I already tried that. I received a reply on 17/05/2016 in which they asked few questions(IEMI, what i was doing, phone able to reset). I replied instantly. However, since then, I haven't heard anything back from them yet.

not sure what to do now?

        • @usmanyousaf: Same. Send them ANOTHER message in Ebay with the info. I had the same experience as you. They didn't reply to the first message but replied to the second within 24hrs. I've just actually come back from the post office after sending my phone off to Sydney.

        • @Todes Angst:
          Thanks mate for reply.
Yeah. I did send them 4 to 5 messages but haven't heard from them back yet.
I will keep on sending messages until hopefully they reply.

The only thing I would suggest when we post a bargain from qd_au, the moderator should also add how painful is to go through warranty process from qd_au.
it looks like everyone who had issue with the phone had problem claiming warranty. We should look after our fellow bargainers.

  • Has anyone had any correspondence from QD_au since Tuesday? I got the standard reply asking for the phones IMEI and whether it had been dropped, wet etc. I replied to that immediately and now it's been another 3 days with no response from them?

    • Same here. My G4 has had the wifi die on me. I contacted them at the start of the week, got the standard reply, and nothing since.

I think I'll move on and buy a cheapish replacement.

  • That's the risk you take when you buy a cheaper grey import. I've never personally dealt with their after sales support. From what I've read online they have an address in Sydney you send the phone back to and then they send it back to the country they source the phone to claim warranty. Its a lengthy process with the extra shipping, so you'll be waiting several weeks before you get your old phone back.

  • Anybody received their repaired phone back from Qd eBay?

    • Nope.

Quality Deal Pty Ltd is a legally registered company in Australia. If more and more people not getting the warranty, doing a bulk complain to the authority might get the ball rolling.

    • Nope. It has been 5 weeks for me. Sent them a message via eBay. No response from them yet.

  • +1

Damn, just got bootlooped today. Phone bought from Quality Deal. Heard so many people waiting so long to get replacement. I think I'm going to move on and stop buying from LG. Back to Samsung Note 3.

    • Same here, have been messaging them for the past week for an update on the repair and still no word. I think they may have hit the runner on me.

      • 6 weeks and counting. No word from them yet after I prompted them via ebay message.

        • They emailed through today saying LG has a huge backlog of G4s to fix so it may take a lot longer. I'm not holding my breath.

        • @alz:

Can you please kindly advise the qd_au's Sydney address?

No response from qd to my eBay messages.

  • I have approached QD, two months ago re: a warranty claim. They requested further info (IMEI, had I dropped it, etc). I gave that, over a month ago. I have heard nothing since, despite contacting them by message 3x.

Is there any way to take this further? It's like my messages just go to the void…

    • That is dreadful news. My partners phone died at 2am this morning. :( I have read similar comments over on whirlpool. Hopefully someone can help you.

  • My G4, bought from qd_au last Sep, boot-looped tonight. I read online saying by disabling two big CPU cores would start the phone again or freezing it for 20 minutes to get all six cores to start temporarily.

Freezing did work to have my phone up and running for about 10 minutes so that I can back up data.

BTW, my phone's screen wouldn't turn on after Marshmallow upgrade.

I wish qd_au would be able to fix this within a reasonable time frame.

    • BTW, after a bit digging, it turned out the loose contact hardware issue LG identified was the hexa core CPU. Namely, the chipset Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 MSM8992 (SoC) - CPU: 4x 1.44 GHz Cortex-A53 & 2x 1.82 GHz Cortex-A57. The actual error is then located in the dual-core 1.82 GHz Cortex-A57; quad core is fine and the error does not apply to it.

This is purely a HW defect that can be fixed by using the application "LGUP" which is used for flashing new firmwares. The guide and Tot files can be downloaded from here.

      https://mega.nz/#!msI2DaIJ!gEKhs_xkV6cvKJrpRu_tcVJQJq_Fnn31j…

The "fix" deactivates the dual-core CPU (1.82 GHz Cortex-A57) and in the addition, only one core will be kept working in the quad-core CPU (1.44 GHz Cortex-A53 - the remaining three cores will be also deactivated.

      Video Guide Here: https://youtu.be/lbJXwPmbXFc

HW FAULT FIX USING THE LG's "LGUP" APP:

      1. Unzip the downloaded ZIP archive - see link above
      2. Run the installation package: LGUP_Store_Frame_Ver_1_14_3.msi
      3. Run the installation package: LGUP_8994_DLL_Ver_0_0_3_23.msi (silent install)
      4. Put the phone into download mode
      5. Connect the phone to PC
      6. Start the application: "LGUP" from the Desktop
      7. Click on the box: "Upgrade"
      8. Click on the box: "Bin File"
      9. Click on the three dots to the right of the box: "File Path"
      10. Go to the folder: "G4 series MSM Big disable core tool File_v3.0"
      11. Open the folder with your phone model number
      12. Select a single file that is located in a subfolder
      13. Click the "Start" button

Your device will be automatically rebooted if the the process is successful and you will be able to backup your important data, before you send it to the warranty claim.

After using the phone for some time, you will soon discover that the phone is very slow. It is because you now basically have one-core SmartPhone.

If you would like to keep your device with a fully working quad-core CPU (1.44 GHz Cortex-A53) and all four cores, not just one - please check out the following video: https://youtu.be/-NziX5Fyq58

      Note: Supported models are as follows: H812, H815, H815K, H815TR, H818, H818N, H818P, H819, V32

If you are on Android Marshmallow (6.0), not Lollipop (5.1), you will have to perform a downgrade first prior to flashing ILAPO fix, using the above mentioned LGUP app - instead of ticking "Upgrade" box, click the "Refurbish" box. You can find the stock Lollipop ROM for your phone model at the following link:
      http://odkaz.youber.cz/lg-g4-repo

Once the process is complete, close the LGUP app, disconnect the phone from the PC and go back to the step no.: 4.

Then follow the video guide to activate all four cores:

      • Thanks for the really detailed write up, if my warranty claim fails I'll be sure to refer to this stuff :)

  • Got an email saying it was fixed today. Hopefully i'll have it by the end of the week or early next. That will be exactly 8 weeks since I sent it off.

    • Got a ebay message from them confirming my phone is fixed and my address last night. I guess the wait was reasonable considering a lot of G4s would have failed around the same time ours did. If the phone actually come back repaired, I would probably buy from them again, considering I got next to zero support from other non-brick and mortar shop sellers on ebay if something breaks.

  • Got my Asus Zenfone2 back after exactly 1 month. Sent directly from Taiwan.

  • Got mine back today, no issues so far. They chucked in a battery charging kit + spare genuine battery for the G4. Their way of saying we're sorry it took 8 weeks to fix your phone.

    • Did you get any tracking advice for the return? I got a repair completion email the same day as you. Last Monday 4th…but the phone hasn't shown up and no communication. Hopefully Monday or Tuesday. What shipping did they use for the return? I'm in Brisbane.

      • They said the typhoon is affecting deliveries….fingers crossed.

        • Have you got your phone yet? I received my email on the 5th and replied on the same day. My phone has not appeared on my doorstep yet. And no response from them for 2 days.

        • @geek001: No, no response and no phone. It's been 8 weeks for me and waiting. Think I'll buy bricks and mortar next time.

        • @Limosine: Me neither. I got a response from them apologising and saying they are sending phones in batches. Still no phone though. Wonder when it will turn up,,

        • @geek001: Phone turned up today with the free battery and charger. It was all in Chinese so just doing a master reset. No tracking number. Just happy to have it back as my backup phone died today…so good timing.

        • @Limosine: By this estimate I should expect the phone next week then since I got their phone repaired message a day later than you? Just my luck that the weekend comes around.

        • @Limosine: Got a message from them yesterday. They sent me a tracking number. It looks like it will be another few days before the phone gets here.

Out of curiosity, did you bug them a lot? I am just wondering whether the squeakiest wheel does indeed get the grease first?

        • @Limosine: hi mate how did u do the master reset? I got my phone back today (after 5 weeks) but same thing i see some apps withc chinese on it….thanks

      • +1

A week after they emailed the phone turned up via DHL to Sydney. They probably didn't have the time to send me a tracking number.

        • same. 6 weeks door to door on mine. Phone is now working great. Got the free battery and charger as well :)

  • ok mine has died this morning bootloop

was purchased in september and the the serial number starts with 508

have sent an email to QD via the original item number in ebay.

hopefully it doesnt take too long i am hoping 6 to 8 weeks.

in the mean time back to iphone 5s

    • I don't like your chances, it is coming up to 11 weeks for me. They said it has been repaired 2 weeks ago, but no sign of the phone or a tracking number yet.

    • Sorry for your loss. I recently received mine back after 8 weeks and it is still alive.
Hopefully they will fix yours in no time.

  • Add me to the list…LG G4 from QD ebay last year….certified around 6pm last night…bootloop…wont bootup past LG logo.
just sent QD a message via ebay today but sounds like I will be waiting for a loooooooooooooooooong while…

  • QD replied back after few days with the standard question about if its been dropped etc..I have replied back with IMEI number still waiting for the response.

  • Got my phone back today. After exactly 12 weeks after I sent it off. Had a message of apology to include case and battery set, but only got phone and case. No battery set. Monkeys running the show.

    • Ok, I retract my comment. Battery set showed up on my doorstep from Sydney. Happy, just annoyed that if you don't bug them, they just put you at the back of the queue as others who sent theirs in later got their phone back first.

  • G4 owner bought from QD eBay last Sept.

Dreading a bootloop issue that seems more and more apparent……I love my G4.

Wondering what to upgrade to when
    /if it dies.

  • My LG G4 died last week too!! Continual booting up including after factory reset. I purchased in October. Sent a message to them on eBay no response yet….

    • No response, 5 days so far :(

  • Got a reply with RMA. Number and return address on Friday

Have sent the phone on Monday and was delivered to them yesterday

    Now the waiting game begins

    Timeline

    22/7. Sent first email
26/7 reply received with more questions including Imei
26/7 sent reply with the requested info
29/7 RMA number received with address to post the phone to
    1/08 sent phone
    2/8 tracking shows phone delivered

    • Thanks for the timeline!

  • Mine has begun bootlooping also. :(
Sent them a message on eBay on 3 Aug, nothing yet, hopefully will get a reply next week.

    • +1

I kept hassling them once a day until they finally responded two day later =]
