why get them from Entertainment Book if it's normal price?

    • +2

      ?

RRP is $41, I believe they are normally $30 on Tuesdays, or weekdays before 5pm. Certainly not Friday/Saturday nights

      • Also depends somewhat on the newness/popularity of the movie now too it seems, i.e. Captain America: Civil War was $38.50 last week during weekdays at Kotara NSW.

    • And yes, from memory it's ~$3.25 each if booking online, otherwise no extra charge for booking at the Box Office

  • I have to say, Hoyts LUX is a much better experience than Event goldclass.

    • Depends, some of our Lux cinemas are shared with standard cinemas. Lux seats don't recline. (in my opinion) better service in Gold Class

      • I've only been to Broadway Hoyts for LUX, there's the choice of Recliner/no recliner session when buying tickets, $25 for me as I'm with Optus.
Maybe GC at George St Event is just crap, when I went there last time there was no service, no free drink, no free popcorn, only old recliner seat… Every time I go to LUX I get all the free stuff I mentioned.

        • Yeah, there's no free food in Gold Class but there is in Lux, that's definitely 1+ for Lux :)

        • +1

@Spackbace: I wish we had a Lux in Newy to try it for comparison purposes…maybe next time I'm in Sydney.

I'm just thankful we have Reading Gold Lounge & Event Gold Class here to choose from now…

  • how long does it take ticket to be emailed to you?

  • I'll stick to the $12.50 Telstra Thanks standard sessions haha.

  • Gold Class is like flying business class on Tiger Air; the illusion you're living large. In reality, you're subjected to a room that smells of fast food, the sound of clinking cutlery and the interrupting sight of wait-staff to add to your premium movie experience.

    • +2

Subjective. I'd take Gold Class (when tickets are $25-30) over normal any day of the week.

  • Definitely worth paying extra over VMax if budget allows!

Can you elaborate, I've not done Gold Class as I couldn't understand what was the difference.

    • It's just a different 'experience' I guess. Only about 40 people to a cinema instead of ~250, the option to have food/drinks brought out to you.

When it comes to popular movies that will sell out either VMax or Gold Class, Gold Class obviously has far less people in the cinema, so it's better.

But Gold Class is also one where you sorta need to spend more money to enjoy it (ie buying the food & drinks)

      • +1

Depends on your local cinema i suppose. My local Hoyts has put in nice big recliner seats as standard seating. It's brilliant. Way better than Event Cinemas IMO even gold glass i wouldnt bother.

      • So if I was someone who was into the no distraction , full immersion into movie thing would Vmax on a quieter night be better.

I had thought the food being served in the movie and people eating would be annoying.

Excuse me picking your brain. I want to try it out but not sure whether top risk a movie I'm keen on.

        • +5

I've never been affected by the waiters, not to a noticeable extent. Certainly don't hear others eating.

If you have a partner, just try Gold Class once, make up your own mind :) don't take my or anyone's opinion on it, just try it

        • Agree there is no real issue with waiters etc. Its just pot luck where there is a noisy idiot in there that makes a noise. Other than being served food the main difference is gold glass screens are smaller, but you are closer. Depends on personal preference and most importantly what your local cinema is like. If Sydney i would recommend Hoyts Broadway for La Premier or Hoyts Chatswood for xTreme screen recliners. I would not recommend Event Cinema… at least, the ones (George St, Macquarie, Parra) i have been to are all quite poor in comparison.

If you really want quiet, but great screen (and seats if u go to Hoyts with recliners like Chatswood), go on one of the last nights a movie is showing in Xtreme screen. For example we went and saw the Jungle Book in Xtreme 3D last Wednesday, the last day it was on that screen before being replaced by Captain America, and there was maybe 20 people in the cinema. Awesome screen, awesome seats (it's just been re-fitted with recliners as standard seatinf).

        • +1

@Xizor: I used to find first session of the morning on a weekend also very quiet for more adult films that may be on Xtreme Screen. If you are an early riser those are an option. Hoyts also had discounts for earlier sessions although I'm not sure if they still do that.

First session didn't mean especially early either…10am or so would be about the time I'd go and often there was only half a dozen other people. Watch a film then go have lunch.

        • Yeah you're spot on there. I don't think they are any cheaper at least not in my area but i mean who buys movie tickets at full price anyway… :D

  • Makes $16 new release DVD at target sound good

  • What movies are out/soon that are worth seeing in a cinema?

    • Pass is valid for 6 months, so:
      Captain America Civil War
      X-Men Apocalypse
      Alice Through The Looking Glass
      Finding Dory
      Now You See Me 2
      TMNT 2
      Warcraft
      Independence Day Resurgence
      Ghostbusters
      Star Trek Beyond
      Jason Bourne
      Suicide Squad

Depends on what you like but those all come out within the next 6 months :)

      • That's actually not a bad list. Especially the Marvel movies & Alice.

Watching Warcraft in Gold class would just be worth it for the amusement factor.

        • If you haven't seen Civil War, grab these tickets & pedal your backside into your nearest GC pronto… :)

        • +1

@StewBalls: Okay done. Will pick up tickets tomorrow at lunch for the evening to save on booking fees :>

My friends are seeing it yesterday & Friday! Then we can all have a big facebook messenger group chat about it :D

  • Would someone kindly explain if the digital version is better than the original hard copy of the entertainment book?

    • +1

Digital is probably a little bit better in that it constantly updates for new deals, if you have the book then you need to keep an eye on your emails etc

      • Does the digital version require the vendor to click the screen to validate the coupon/deal?
