Anova Precision Cooker Sous Vide - Bluetooth or Bluetooth + Wifi $225.99 / $249.99 Delivered

750

Got an email from Anova offering $60 off both their home sous vide cookers. I backed the original bluetooth only version on kickstarter years ago, never had an issue over around 50 cooks, including a few 72 hour ones. Never used the bluetooth though and I imagine the wifi is just as pointless so I'd take the cheaper one if I was in the market.
UPDATE: anyone on the fence, they've just knocked 19 cents off the shipping, strike now!

Has anyone tried this one: http://www.harveynorman.com.au/kitchen-appliances/small-kitc… currently $50 off with amex card promo too.

EDIT: oops, just noticed it's already been posted above :D

  • Guys, what's the functionality with the wifi compared to bluetooth.

Currently interested in purchasing one. But for $250 is it worth? (shipping included)

    • I have the bluetooth version and I really don't see the point in the connectivity. Id go the bluetooth version as I can't see the wifi being useful either.

With wifi version you never loose signal, secondly if you setup router correctly you can turn machine on remotely.

I know someone who leaves food in ice bath for a few hours before turning machine on while at work.

    • According to a cnet review, the bluetooth and wifi apps conflict and cause double notifications, they recommend getting the bluetooth only version until Anova smooths out the bugs.

      • Doubt it'll be a problem for me since I hardly ever have bluetooth on. Thanks for the warning, though.

  • How would it compare to this one from Big W at $60 cheaper? The eBay one is 1300 watts but I can't find a power rating for the Anova.

  • The link from COTD show $179 reduced from $229 and when you select 220v AU it comes up with "Use code BLUE20 for $20 off at checkout.
Used in Australia and New Zealand"

    but it doesn't work?

    • Thatls the US store, you can use aus25wifi coupon there but it’s cheaper to just go to the aussie store with $60 off

  • bought one on monday night, shipped yesterday. but geez $50 bucks for shipping and it ships from HK.

  • Ordered on Sunday, arrived this morning (syd from HK).
It’s a big machine, need to get a taller pot/container but the Bluetooth and wifi setup took 2 minutes and was very easy on my iphone. Disabled wifi and bt and it connected over 4g first go (must register over their server or upnp because I didnt touch the router). Not sure what all the complaints were on amazon regarding the setup.

Eager to try it out tonight!

    • Unless they have a separate WiFi application…
I can't see any options other than Bluetooth in my app.

Yeah there's another App, it's not as fancy though.

    • How is the sous vide going?
      Worth it?

  • Ordered on Tue, initial estimates were for next week, DHL tracking shows ETA for tomorrow. Hpoe it arrives before the weekend so I can try it out/double-up as a Mothers Day gift… though a Kitchen Appliance is always a tricky one…

… and in my hands today. The <72 hours from order to my desk almost makes up for the $50 shipping…

      • Half your luck, ordered 4 days ago and still hasn't shipped.

  • Mine arrived and I've discovered that the wifi app doesn't play nice with iPhone 6 and 6plus. Seems to work with my ipad mini, but connection (which was supposed to be a one time process) is quite hit and miss.

  • Mine My wife's mother's day gift arrived. I reckon the wifi is worth the extra money as you can trigger cooks remotely. Tried chicken breast tonight using a recipe from the app. Can't believe how edible it was!

    • I did a chicken breast last night from frozen - 2 hours at 61 degrees and it came out so moist and tender it was amazing! Just a little bit of salt and pepper to season, I didn't even sear or use any oil. I had always opted for thigh before but think I'll be going a healthier breast option from now on!

      • Sigh, you're making me want to get one.

  • Who got their units?

    Any good?

    Worth the money?
