Put portable hard drive in the title. It's a good price if you can find stock, sold out online.

  • +6

good price, not available online, and doesn't look like its available near me in store either.
I'm looking for a backup drive to back up my back up. this would have been perfect.

    • +7

you might as well grab two, to backup the backup of the backup.
      be safe :)

      • +3

Back up, what did you say?

        • +1

          Backception

  • Glebe apparently have stock for those around the Sydney CBD area.

  • Limited stock at Chadstone Office Works if anyone is considering these.

  • Available in most stores in SA

Don't Seagate 3TB drives have issues?

    • Oh.. No!

    • I bought one of these a few weeks ago and need to return it.

That said, I have 3TB Seagate NAS drives and have had no issues with them at all.

    • +6

I'm pretty sure they were the 3.5" desktop drives (ST3000DM001).

      • +2

I had one of those and they died after 2years. Piece of poo I say, never trusting Seagate again.

        • +8

Jeez, hope you never breath bad air.

        • @Utopian:

Well I wasn't sure whether a swear filter would allow me to say that Seagate hard drives are a piece of shit.

    • +11

Every time someone posts a deal on hard disk, someone else will post a similar claim.

  • Are we able to open the cases and use them as internals?

    • the case seems quite sturdy, I dont think you can open without damaging the HDD.

      • +5

        Challenge Accepted!

    • +1

Small print: "Not fit for human consumption, or to be used internally."

      • +4

You should also challenge that. =P

    • +3

Yes, they are pretty easy to open, I've opened the 2TB and 4TB versions. Unlike the WD's the USB board/chip isn't permanently attached.

      • Sweet, thanks. :) Exactly the answer I was after.

    • +1

should be easy according to this https://youtu.be/sCLfHCq_794?t=57

  • +1

Didnt even know that we'd passed 2tb for 2.5" drives.

    • +2

Yeah me too coz I was just going to dismiss this deal and then….mind blown!!!

  • A nice price, I bought one for backup 2 months back. Nice and small, but also a lot slower than external 3.5" Seagate I also use for backup.

  • amazing find… Perfect timing…

  • +1

    The website has crashed!

  • Lucky for me, sold mine a few days ago for a tad more :)

  • lel… under the price it says '$0.04 per GB'

    • Well it's a bit cheaper than 4 cents per GB if you work it out, 3.97 cents per GB rounded up.

  • There's about ten in the Hornsby NSW store as of just now. They aren't on the shelf or even advertised. Just go to the counter and they are in the cabinet behind the staff.

  • 4 left at Fyshwick ACT. They are not on display (only the 2TB and 4TB versions) - just ask at the counter.

  • I take it these are 5400rpm?

  • 2 left in Gillies Plains.

    Just picked one up.

  • Thanks just bought one, can anyone confirm if the 3TB drive is 9.5mm, 12mm or 15mm as I might use it in my PC or PS4.

    • It's likely to be USB-only, with no SATA interface, so you wouldn't be able to put into into your PC or PS4.

      • That depends on the manufacturing date, according to Amazon most are Sata unlike their WD counterparts, I know that the 4TB is 15mm but very limited info on the 3TB online.

    • not so sure about your question but in the review in Cnet, it is usable with console (was tested with Xbox in the review). not sure if that's what you are asking.

    • +1

It's 15mm, here's the specs page for the internal drive:-

      http://www.seagate.com/au/en/products/laptop-mobile-storage/…

  • Just bought one from Officeworks trinity gardens. The cashier said that the price is going to go up to $149 tomorrow.

    • It's 'tomorrow' and the price is now $147.00

  • Just got one from Bondi Junction officeworks. They are behind the counter.

  • +1

Bought one 30 mins ago at Woolloongabba store at Brisbane. Couldn't find on the shelves, so had to ask shop assistant and he brought one to the checkout.

  • In Adelaide as of 8pm;
    Parafield has 17
    Keswick 8
    Trinity Gardens 5
+ smaller quantities in other stores, best to call before going in.

Most stores are holding small electronic items behind the counter.

Thanks OP. Grabbed one. Sweet deal.

  • No stock at Jandakot. 5-1 = 4 left in O'connor WA.

    • i grabbed two at O'connor around 5pm.

      • Just got one at East Victoria Park, seems not many left as took the staff a while to find it in the shelf behind the counter.

      • I rang to check the stock level. The staff knew straight away the deal is on ozbargain. Lol.

  • on the website it is said 3 years warranty but I asked in store they said only 1 year. which one is right?

    • +1

      Computer says 3 years.

    • Some world regions like north and south americas have 1 year, europe - 2 , australia - 3 years - that's how it's shown on the package. Not sure why there is such a difference.

  • +1

Got one to use as internal drive. Actual drive is a Samsung Seagate Momentus 5400rpm, model:ST3000LM016 not the 3TB Barracuda which was noted to have 40%+ failure rates in Backblaze's slightly bias review.

  • Back up to $147

    • +1

Yes; very pissed off about this.
I phoned my local store, asking for them to save one for me behind the counter, and they said "we have lots, just come in tomorrow…"
      Bollocks.

      • Yeah me too.

      • anyone would think they've cottoned on to ozbargain and are testing 24/48hr deals to grab our attn without having to forfeit much profit…

  • Got mine late last night. Great deal just wanted to thank the poster.

  • Got one yesterday as well… running the gauntlet after my last seagate crashed and burned after 3 years.

Only holds movies - so not the end of the world if I lose the data

  • The price has reverted back to $147, but still seems like a pretty good deal? Considering next cheapest, according to staticice, is $179 from I-Tech, heck when MSY has been beaten out.
There doesn't seem to be any report of R/W speeds though. Even Seagate's data sheet lacks this info…
