Thats because they ARE grey stock now… Kogan bought the website.

See the description of the iPad : https://assets.kogan.com/files/banners/may-updates/phones.pn…

Mate, if you read the bottom it says offered and supplied by 'Dick Smith' which corresponds to Kogan Australia under here: https://www.dicksmith.com.au/da/terms-and-conditions/, not Kogan Trading HK

      • +12

Thanks for the neg. Did you read my comment? Did you read the top of the item description?? Kogan sells grey phones! Dont be duped! I don't know where you're getting the idea that Kogan Australia sells local AU stock and not imported items from HK.

        • -2

Well to be fair I'm pretty sure they sell local and grey imported stock.

        • +4

i would have to agree with pinchies on this one.
i think kogan are using the dick smith brand and website as a trojan horse to sell their grey imports hoping to fool people who might(stupidly) think that they are buying from the old dick smith or the administrator run dick smith which sold australian products. smart move by kogan and dubious ethically.

i think kogan /dick smith need to be upfront about whether these actually come with 1 or 2 year warranties.accc are toothless/useless on this and i think apple doesnt want to make an issue of it as it exposes how much more aussies are ripped off compared to overseas buyers

        • @Garagesale:

Dick was full of lies and deceit. As if you would trust Kogan :P

        • @abc:
lol yes dick was dodgy but many oldies didnt know that, hence getting burnt with dead gift cards etc.
however they did sell oz ios devices not grey imports…till now.

          can dick get any dodgier?

        • @Garagesale: does it matter…warranty wise you take it to an apple store

          plug wise its just usb

    • -1

You're right. Kogan did bought them out however as some members have pointed out, not all of their iPads are grey imports.
Someone did say their 12.7" are Australian stock.

Even if that was previously true, the item description on the one in the linked item, has the disclaimer about being an "international model" right at the top of the description in small font in a grey box. I wouldn't risk it.

        • -4

This is going to blow your mind but the international model is usually the one made for Australia. You know, what with us not being US or EU.

        • +4

          @Diji1:
Identical, I have no doubt. HOWEVER, it won't come with an AU power adapter, and will not allow you to benefit from consumer law (aka 2 year warranty not 1 year) at Apple stores, as the product was originally "purchased" in HK before being shipped to here.

Kogan typically just packages a travel adapter along with the HK iPad in box.

The patronising tone isn't really needed or appreciated either.

    • In the box

      Charger
      AU/NZ Compliant Generic Charger
      AU/NZ Compliant Generic Adapter

      • Generic Charger vs AU/NZ Apple Supplied charger?

My Apple TV4 that I bought from Kogan, came with OS Power lead and AU adapter.

Now that is OK for me as its only the lead , the power is inside the unit, and my savings was around $80

But a generic power charger is different

not all of us are seasoned "professionals"

the mention of "included generic charger" spells warning bells in my humble opinion. I'd stay clear of it if guaranteeing a non-imported model is important to you.

    • And what prophecy of doom are you foreseeing if one were to use a generic charger?

A lack of Steve Jobs' genius within?

      • +1

If you my friend were to see what is inside some of those generic chargers, you wouldn't touch them either. Being AU/NZ compliant suggests it complies to australian standards (aka won't catch fire the first time you plug it in), but that doesn't preclude issues like a noisy power supply causing interference with the touch screen while charging.

      • +1

        Enjoy your burnt down house.

      • And what prophecy of doom are you foreseeing if one were to use a generic charger?

One worse than that which forced Apple into this: Apple issues worldwide charger AC wall plug adaptor. Good luck ;)

For this price, I would personally get a small mac book air.

    • …and for the price of a small mac book air i'd instead choose maxed out specs on a used 2012/13 mbp

      • The Air is lighter to carry than the Pro :-)

$1400 for a giant Candy Crush device? Lel.

Don't mean to attack Apple but I don't see how anyone would want this over a Surface Pro for personal use. The only exception I see is digital art, don't see it better for any other uses.

      OK, Bill…

Well to be fair, Windows is not exactly a tablet friendly OS in my opinion. As a Surface Pro 3 user, I do feel that tablet mode is kinda half arsed thing that I wouldn't use if I have a choice in the matter. Many programs are not touchscreen friendly. Standby is half arsed when half the time I end with a lukewarm bag and no battery (especially annoying since I never use the standby feature, it's usually because I closed the cover too early when I am shutting the device down).

Would I buy an iPad Pro? Probably not. Mobile OS have their advantages and I'd give it that. That said $1000 is hedging on laptop territory and I don't think Apple has given us a product that can replace laptops with iPad Pro, just like how Surface in my eyes are never going to be something that can replace tablets.

      • Thanks for sharing. :)
Way I see it right now, Surface Pro is the better laptop("the tablet that can replace your laptop") while iPad Pro's the better tablet. But if I wanted an iOS tablet, I would just go for the iPad Air or Mini considering the size and price. That said, I don't mind Apple joining this category and continuing the development of the iPad Pro.

        • If you ask me, I think the problem with big ARM tablet with a good stylus is, while it's great and everything, what can you do with it? It can be lighter and act better in terms of being a tablet compared to x86 tablets of similar size, but the advantages kind of fade away when you have a big screen and hefty price in my opinion.

Long battery life kinda becomes less of an advantage since you wouldn't want to carry it around for a long time (I don't disagree with it being an advantage though). If you are going to use it for graphical work, you would probably have a desk and things set up for doing it.

You have to sit down to use it means it kinda gives away the advantage of being portable a bit as well.

If you have to set the perimeter up to use it, I think it'd be nicer to have something that can do more (I don't think x86 will have this advantage forever, that said, most work places still use PC and laptops).

That said, I don't think it's a bad purchase if you have a specific need for iPad Pro. It's a niche product in my opinion. On slightly different note, iPad Pro 9.7 was something I was drooling onto, I think the advantage of iOS device shines in that size region more, though this is my opinion.

      • Steve Ballmer famously said that the iPhone wouldn't appeal to business users as it didn't have a physical keyboard. At the end of the day it's the consumer market that will determine product success. No one has a crystal ball…

        • I kinda don't see how that fits into what I've said… what you are saying is true that said why would you mention about how market works on what I feel about OS is slightly beyond me.

I'd be very careful buying online from DS for some time.

    • I can see an ACCC case coming up soon about customers feeling duped because they did not realise they were buying grey stock.

      • Ruslan Kogan has been in business for a while. I doubt very much all legal i's haven't been dotted and t's haven't been crossed. Consumer's own ignorance (ie. not reading the Terms and Conditions) will likely be the cause of tears.

  • if u were going to buy from kogan better off going to there own website and using the takeoff10 code brings prices down bit more then what they selling them on dicksmith for

  • Just clicked on OP's link.

    "+ Delivery Charges"

"Leaves warehouse in 1-2 weeks" - which then asks you to "allow another 3-7 business days…"

    LOL

  • Omg dick kogan smith is haunting ozbargain from the grave!!! Next comes hourly deals, then $10 off $150 spend etc.
