  • Just to confirm, this isn't grey import yeh? otherwise thanks for the post!

    • Even if it is, Apple have a worldwide warranty.

      • wait so if the iPad has a problem you can take it into an Apple Store? Also, on a related note, has anyone had luck price matching this with officeworks?

        • yes apple should cover the warranty for 12 months

        • +1

          @bamsegod:

Apple offer 24 months for local stock

      • +8

        Incorrect

IMPORTANT RESTRICTION FOR iPHONE, iPAD AND APPLE TV SERVICE.

Apple may restrict warranty service for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV to the country where Apple or its Authorized Distributors originally sold the device.

        http://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/products/ios-warranty-re…

        • I haven't had problems watery wise for iPhones bought on Kogan

        • +5

@bamsegod: been keeping it out of the pool then?

    • +5

      yes grey import for sure

      • aw cheers.

    • -2

Australian warranty is worth more than world wide warranty, they arent equal. In case you hadnt notice Australian law is far more friendly and beneficial to its citizens in many areas of life, including purchases.

  • +2

It may be cheaper than Kogan, but the 12.9" iPad Pro's that Kogan sell are Australian stock and shipped from Melbourne (128GB models - their other models are imported).

Buying from Kogan, the total cost after 15% eBay discount and 1.35% CashRewards is ~$1283. You get a full Australian tax invoice from Kogan as well for this purchase, which could be useful for tax purposes, salary sacrifice, TRS etc. (I personally wouldn't buy any of their imported stuff).

    • are you sure about this?it says location melbourne but only comes with 12 months warranty. with Kogan i dont think you can get GST back.

      • +4

Yes, my sister got one for her husband in their last 20% off sale. It was an Australian model. Item is sold by Kogan Australia Pty Ltd (ABN 53 152 570 351) - not Kogan HK Limited (Company Registration Number: 1659337) . I would recommend you contact them directly should you need further clarification. Their support staff are very responsive and happy to assist.

I did a quick search on the last deal - found a confirmation from Kogan themselves that item ships with a full tax invoice for items shipped out of the Australian warehouse.

If that's the case, kogan offers better value.

    • +1

Doesn't make sense to me to pay an extra $85 on top of $1178 in order to cover myself with ACL for … what - to save myself having to replace it in the eventuality that it's defective? I've yet to say to myself "I wish I could return this phone or tablet when I cannot" in my life.

  • does anyone know if Kogan sells the keyboard for this?

  • +15

an ipad costs more than a grand? wtf. check yo self before buying…

    • +4

      Dat glowing apple tho

    • +2

16GB fo lyfe yo, FO LYFE!

      • ram? :D

    • Checkin' yoself is da last ting you do when yo buyin' mad bling yo.

    • +1

The iphone 6 plus 64gb went up to around $1400 before the 6s was released (launched at $1129 but our dollar dipped)

    • +1

Even a bloody iPhone costs over a grand now. Not sure what Apple are thinking but I guess it works since I see heaps of people with the new phone.

      • +2

It's because people are willing to pay. If they can charge that much and still sell a lot, why would they reduce the price?

        • People are always shocked at the price of phones but considering it's probably the most used single item people own, who wouldn't spend the money to get something that suits them?

  • +5

With that price, I would rather get a refurbished macbook air. Also it's a bit too big for a tablet.

    • Two different products. Ipad is great at many things like consuming content, and creating content to some extent. But there always be a time when I would crackshit that I have to reach out for a proper computer and that too a windows

      • MacBook Air runs OSX not windows (although you can install Windows on it with boot camp). The "iPad pro" is too large screen size and the apps do not scale properly. It also can't multi task and it's too large to comfortably use while holding, you need to use this resting against a surface. May as well go for the air if you are comparing it to an iPad pro.

        • Is this from your personal experience?

        • @tg: Yeah I have used a few of them through work, they are such uncomfortable devices to use

        • @Agret:
          Thanks.
I was thinking of getting an iPad Pro 12.9" for its WOW factor.
Now I will consider either iPad Air 2 or iPad Pro 9.7".

        • @tg:
I went in JB Hifi to check out the sizes and the 12.9" didn't look too big.
          The 9.7" actually looked small.

        • @grizz_li: when you use the apps didn't the scaling seem messed up?

        • @Agret:
          I only tried YouTube.
Currently using the first gen iPad so the boarder's larger hence when I see the new Air 2 with a thinner border frame, it looks like it's smaller even though they are both 9.7"

        • @tg: I think you should go to a store and check it out before you discount it entirely, they are kinda uncomfortable to use but I think that the issues with them should be resolved in iOS 10 whenever that comes out, if you have a look at this page of arstechnica review you can see how Apple themselves don't even design the OS for such a large screen

          http://arstechnica.com/apple/2015/11/ipad-pro-review-mac-lik…

So much wasted screen space in so many apps, nothing is really designed around it properly yet. Being on the niche end of the tablet market I don't know how much adoption it will get for developers to bother tailoring their UI for it.

    • the pen is a big drawcard for alot of people that you don't get on a MBA

  • The iPad pro 9.7" are on discount as well. http://www.eglobaldigitalcameras.com.au/apple-ipad-pro-9.7-1…

    • that's half the discount but…

  • +13

Don't forget to add duty and taxes to this price

  • +1

You will get 12 months international warranty if bought from Kogan. However you do NOT get the 1-2 year Australian consumer law warranty. I confirmed this at Apple on Sunday when I was considering buying from Kogan with 15%

    • 1-2 year Australian consumer law warranty

      Umm .. what?

Also why are you confirming that a Kogan purchase isn't covered by ACL - which is what I think you mean - with Apple. Isn't Apple interested in selling you an iPad?

      • When you buy from Kogan in this case your buying from a HK company and the purchase is effectiuvely made in HK, not Australia.

  • eGlobal? Never heard of these guys before.
    The price is cheap though.

    • +2

      They're legit.

  • +2

Not the delivered price.. Does not add the Customs duty tax (10%) for over $1000. But still cheaper than RRP here

    • I thought these guys take care of the custom tax?

      • how would they "take care" of the custom tax? The only way is to get them to undervalue the product on the way in (if they wanted to do that in the first place). Otherwise, you will get a delivery note to say "please pay 10% and we'll release your article" from Australian Customs.

      • +3

You need to be a Top 500 company on the Australian Stock Exchange to avoid paying tax like that, the law is made so you have to pay tax on your piddly $1200 once off transaction while they can happily get away with legally avoiding paying tax on the billions.

      • Then how come they dont mention it in BIG WRITING.. or even small writing ?

Simply because once its sold, if you get stung by import costs, they dont care as they already have your money.

  • +2

12months for grey import and 24 months for local stock, straight from an apple genius mouth when i was doing a return at the apple store.

  • +6

Who would pay over 1k for an iPad….lol

    • -3

iSheep that think everything Apple does is the greatest thing ever and actually believe Apple when they say they're revolutionising things.

  • -1

Poor Steve Jobs must be turning in his grave.
Apple is now so much closer to what Android was last year, larger phones, larger tablets, the finally got a watch and even consider wireless charging I hear just as Android starts to phase it out as it doesn't handle the high charge currents more modern devices demand handles. What's next: high resolution screens? Smart widgets on home screen? I wonder….
    Couldn't resist :P

    • +1

Steve Jobs wasnt infallible and made a number of errors throughout his life that he later changed shamelessly. At the end of the day, its all about money and persuasion (marketing) for Apple. They need to invest and make the products that people want.

      • -1

Agree and they better start soon to make products that actually sell because of their features and not the logo or their sales will decline further. :)

    • You obviously dont understand marketting…

They simply change the form factor, so the product looks different enough so fanbois think they need a new one. Just look at al the iphones, many times each revision could share the samebody as the previous, but they always add a stripe or colouring so people KNOW you have the new iphone or some old one. Its an old trick everybvody does it… change the appearance just enough so people think shit i have the old one, and so and so has the new one,, i need to get the new one.

  • +1

The reason I bought the iPad 1,2 and 3 was Coz they were decent improvements and a cheap price about $500

    1. Was revolutionary.
    2. Was a lot nicer to hold
    3. Had retainer screen

Since then I've used my 3. Sure it's a bit heavy and hit but the design was awesome. I don't like the Bessel on the new ones. The hard lines dosnt make it feel as nice in ur hand despite it being lighter.

So I won't be getting this one and i can't see how it's good value at 1.2k? But still the cheapest so up voted it goes. :-(

    • Is retainer screen an improvement? That's screen burnt your meant right?

      • A massive improvement

Not sure what you mean about screen burn…

    • +1

yeh my first and only ipad was ipad 3 and great screen and processor esp as i remember getting it for just under $500 when it released. recently sold it on gumtree as it had been gathering dust for last couple years since i got an i3 4gb c720 chromebook :) but the new ipad3 owner was happy as it still runs current iOS perfectly etc

  • How much is this normally (from Myers or Apple store)?

    • I think $1699. Less 10% once in a while on ipads

      • Seems like a good saving then

      • Holy bajesus :O

I got my 512gb retina Macbook Pro for only $250 more than this a couple of years ago, and I thought that was a rip off.

  • -1

I got my 128gb 4G from Telstra for $77 a month with 2gb shared data, they also gave me a $480 credit so really only $57 a month - gst i can claim back, net cost $52 p/m. So $1248 and 2gb data. BARGAIN :)
    Great iPad too.

    • How to get credit? Was is specific to you?

      • They stuffed my original order so was a good will credit from Telstra business.

    • That is a great deal. Even at $77 p/m for 24 months, you're only paying $149 for 2GB p/m or 48GB altogether on Australia's fastest network.

      • Yeah its supposed to be $87 and they gave me a $10 p/m discount too i didn't mention.

The story was i ordered over the phone and wanted to just do MRO for the iPad as we have data share phone plans, they said no props did the order then a week later i contacted them and they said no you can't do a MRO only anymore has to be on a $87 plan with 2gb data share.
Thats when they offered me the credit and discount to get the order through on the data share plan.

        • Ah ic. It sounds like they might have stuffed up on your contract and instead of cancelling the contract, they covered their backside by offering you all that they can as incentives to keep the contract.

      • Sarcasm detected!

  • +1

That's stil expensive for what id
essentially a gloryfied Facebook and angry birds machine..

  • This "bargain" is more expensive than my last 3 Ipads put together. :-(

    • How did you get 128gb + 4g for $400 each? That's crazy good price!
