  • is it definitely identifying the correct one? i just ask cos the same model nbr is 2.0 soundbar here:
    https://www.target.com.au/p/target-2-channel-bluetooth-sound…

    but that says 2.1

either way though it's a bargain.. i just recently bought an el cheapo soundbar for $70.. wish this had popped up earlier !

There is no such thing as 2.1 audio, not in the same sense as 5.1 .
People confuse the presence of a subwoofer with the LFE channel.

        dat doof doe

        • :) What I meant to say, the point, is that 2.0 ,2.1 - its all the same thing. Stereo.

There certainly isn't any subwoofer here.

Just the usual cheapo TV speakers with a poxy 3W/ch amp in a tiny, boomy little plastic enclosure.

This Target one claims 50W RMS plus optical input. If that's true then it's got some decent grunt and might be OK as a amp to drive some stereo speakers.

I've never worked out what "soundbars" are supposed to do. If you want to improve your TV sound, it seems counter-intuitive to add a soundbar LOL

        • why counter-intuitive? I have a 48 inch soniq garbage TV and the sound is horrible and tinny and the speakers live on the BACK of the TV. It's virtually unusable with its own speakers. I bought an el cheap soundbar and now it sounds great. What's counter-intuitive about that?

        • @Iggemo:

          What's counter-intuitive about that?

I suppose I think of "add-on" improvements in terms of the best result I could get for a certain $$ spent.

So I cannot comprehend spending (say) $200 on a soundbar instead of spending $200 on a decent set of speakers.

The advantage of normal speakers is stereo separation, plus the ability to get some bass.

A soundbar, especially the kind like in this deal, are basically just a set of TV speakers anyway. They cannot produce bass and the stereo separation is just as bad as a TV.

So, I've always considered cheapo soundbars as paying money to add a set of TV speakers onto a TV. And I've considered expensive soundbars as a total waste of money due to the poor audio result they give compared to the same priced powered speakers.

Of course this one is super-cheap $35 so I would compare with whatever powered speakers could be obtained for $35, probably some PC 2.1's or something.

I have a 48 inch soniq garbage TV and the sound is horrible

Personally I would have paid more for the TV so I didn't have to pay extra for an add-on gadget. Then again, if I want decent sound I simply switch on my HiFi and route the TV sound through that.

        • @llama: i wouldnt spend a lot on a soundbar but if you think its "adding tv speakers on tv speakers" and so redundant, i'd love you to hear the difference in my tv on its own and with an el cheap soundbar. You totally can't compare.

And sure u can buy a TV for more but it still works out better with a cheapo soundbar.. my dad got a 55" bauhn tv from aldi full HD for $360. this was a year or more ago too, added a $100 philips soundbar and it's an awesome setup. can't beat it for the price, but again, his tv naturally - abso garbage speakers, unusable, definitely needed a soundbar.

Also, soundbars sit neatly and convniently on your TV stand, they look good and they have optical output. Good luck finding PC speakers in the price range that have that convenience.

That's probably the main reason I don't like them. They look like a pimple.

          they look good

I personally think they look dreadful. Separate speakers are at least out of the line of sight.

  • Note you'll need to buy an optical cable as well, there isn't one in the box

I was in target just yesterday. Did see this soundbar and it was advertised as $49 (if it's $34, then sounds like a bargain to me), If anyone wondering about the stock, when I saw it yesterday there's still plenty of stock at Castle Towers Target.

    • I bought it for $49 last week from Mario SA. Today I saw this at $49 again

      • I also bought one from Luigi, SA. Marion, though

  • There's a whole stack of them available in the Geelong store.

  • Just picked one up at Airport West. Still Stock (Around 10) in-store.

  • About a dozen of them on shelf at Macquarie centre when I was there. Sticker said $49, scanned to be $34.30 as mentioned by OP.

  • 3 @ Rouse Hill on the shelf

  • Heaps @ Castle Hill

Lots of them seen on the shelves, but interesting that nobody admits to buying one, let alone telling us if it is any good or not.

  • Plugged mine in and for $34 im very impressed. Sound OK to me.
