WD Elements 1TB External HDD $96 @ Harvey Norman

330

I just saw this advertised on Channel 10. They have the 1TB WD Elements HDD on sale this weekend at Harvey Norman for $96. Beats all the others posted this week by a couple of $$. These things just keep getting cheaper and cheaper.

FYI, I bought one of these last year for $179. I've since removed it from the external case and am using it as an internal hard drive for storage with no problems.

    OW time
brings it down to $91.20 or they might drop their price to match or just under at $95
but great find none the less

    • how can you bring it down to $91.20?

      • 5% pricematch at officeworks
i thought OW ment automatic pricematch thought here on OB?

    • NOT the same item… OW is the new Generation WD Element…so unfortunately cannot price match with it.

    • I got one of these from OW for $99 yesterday. Then went back today & OW still price matched it to $91.20 It won't be long before OW bring their price down to $96<. Good on ya OW!! Great service.

The one at Officeworks Online is $99 but it has free delivery.
I think Hardly Normal is instore only.
If you live next to a Hardly Normal store or you need to grab it real quick then that's the best way to go.
If you require delivery then Officeworks is the way to go.

    • Is the free delivery metro areas only? Typical OW delivery is $20+ for non-metro.

      • Don't know about country areas.
Put it in the shopping cart and go to checkout.
It will show you the shipping before you have to confirm the purchase.

  • I bought a Western Digital drive once. That was enough.

    • you just got unlucky
i have 3 WD's, 1 seagate, and 1 samsung drive in my house
and ive been lucky enough for none to fail, with the WD's being the oldest with one being 4 years old, another 3 and the latest 6 months, samsung is 1 year and seagate is 8 months

      • Had/have most brands of HDD and no had any failures in years. Currently prefer Samsung for speed and quietness.

      • I swear by WD these days. I had a Samsung die on me in under 12 months (it was used as a storage drive) and multiple Seagate drives go less than half way through their warranty period. I have some WD drives that are under 10GB that are still working (although I don't actually use them for obvious reasons). WD all the way for me. :)

        • You get bad batches with any brand.
I only buy WD and Seagate as they have given me overall excellent service.

      • I got 1 Samsung die just under 1 year, 1 Seagate still kicking with lot of clicks. Would not recommend Freeagent Desktops to anyone. Just bought a WD 1TB & so far so good (touch wood…..

    • +1

Yes I think me2… imported one from US 15 years ago and it die on me after 3 months.. I think I spent close to $500 back then, forgot how small (GB) it was though…

Is that because it has worked so well you haven't had to replace it ;)

  • Is this better than the WD HDD on sale at Officeworks? Or the same?

    • not sure what you mean. Both are identically the same although if you were asking which one is of better value then Harvey Norman if you plan on going in-store or if you plan on purchasing online OW for sure.

      • Cheers, got confused due to the different looking photo.

        • That's the older style elements enclosure.

OW are definitely selling the newer style (I know, I bought one this morning). I'd be surprised if HN aren't doing likewise… I reckon the OP has just uploaded the wrong pic.

      • I think OW has the sleek (new look) elements but same product. and OW are happy to price match by 5% less than HN price. So I would go for OW.

    • I think you will find that both are USB2 drives.
The USB3 drives are here so if you are happy with just USB2 drives, there should be a lot of good bargains coming soon.

  • IIRC: That image depicts the older Elements casing

OP: Are you able to confirm the image posted and what you saw on channel 10?
Also what model# is / was your WD? (The one you bought a while back)

  • This is a OLD version of WD element… nothing like the new WD element from OW. Wouldnt trust it, it has known power related issues!

  • Dammit, my Dad just got me one for like $129 last week. :(

  • you need an AC adapter.

  • so cheap thesedays, I remember paying $150 for this just under a year ago. I can definitely vouch that its a solid HDD

    • I can remember paying around $600 for a 106MB HDD. Now that's power storage! :-)

  • The benefit of Harvey Norman and/or Officeworks over other suppliers is that you can use your Credit Card without a surcharge.

    but harvey norman sucks.

they always seem to have sales every weekend when there's actually no bargain.

those harvey norman shouting ads are pretty annoying.

  • voted positive but OW has a newer model for extra $3 and it is well worth it.

  • OW doesnt have ESATA interface: Esata has 3x USB performance (on the one at home)

    • i do not think this one has eSATA either.
please correct me if i am wrong.

    • This one doesn't have eSATA either.
      It's just an older model.

  • For those interested in USB and eSATA there is also this

    http://www.citysoftware.com.au/1TB_Western_Digital_HDD_With_…

$99, with melb pickup available, and $10-$13 for shipping to most main cities.

    ******* EDIT ********

    Actually may be not…
