Screen Size: 12" IPS 2160x1440 (3:2), Capacitive (10-Point) with stylus support
OS: Windows 10 (64) + Android 5.1
CPU: Intel X5 Cherry Trail Z8300 (Max up to 1.84GHz)
GPU: 8th Generation Intel Graphics up to 500MHz
Ports: 1 x USB 2.0, 1 x USB 3.0 and 1 x Micro USB 2.0 OTG, Micro HDMI, Headphone
RAM & ROM: 4GB + 64GB
WiFi: 802.11b/g/n
Bluetooth: 4.0
MicroSD: Up to 128GB (although I've seen people mention issues with > 64MB, but that could have been with the earlier Win only version.)
Battery: 11,000mAh
Camera: 2MP Front, 5MP Back
Size: 29.67 x 20.28 x 0.89 cm
Weight: 0.852KG

It comes with a 3A USB charger with (AFAIK) US plug.

Matching 120 Degree Rotating Magnetic Docking Keyboard is definitely worth getting for US $44 (~AU $60), although this brings it up to 1.5Kg (IMHO weight is probably the biggest negative, even without the KB.) http://en.chuwi.com/product/items/Chuwi-Hi12-keyboard.html

The ace up its sleeve is the pressure sensitive 2 button stylus for US $26 (~AU $35.) I have not seen this available anywhere else.

Lastly, but leastly, a spare Transparent Clear Screen Protector is available for a few dollars.

'Express' delivery adds ~AU $15 (7-15 days instead of 7-25.)

All the reviews I've seen say it's a great bit of kit for the price with good (but not great) build quality - a definite buy.

PS. GearBest also have it - for a bit more though - but I wouldn't risk it: Beware of GearBest Scam Alert

PPS. Don't "Punch it"

  • expensive accessories there

the pen I dont care about… pretty sure its dead on same size as surface pro 3/4 crap so you might want to go there

      ?

  • Plastic or glass screen? (gorilla? )

the Chuwi hi8 is good except the plastic screen……

    • +1

Glass - yes, Gorilla - no.

techtablets.com is run by a kiwi guy who does lots of in depth reviews and video reviews of Chinese tablets, including this one:

    detailed review of the tablet
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fz_nYnXFWwM

    review of the keyboard
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5MGGzEqQlCo

his follow up review after two months of use
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e7IqZi2SCQg

    keyboard build quality looks questionable.

  • Hmmm, I am not sure what they mean by Electromagnetic Pen, in terms of technology.
If they are referring to Wacom one (because Wacom stylus tech, well one of them, uses electromagnetic resonance), it would mean that you could grab a compatiable pen much cheaper (I think I grabbed mine from Aliexpress at around $10~15).

    • It's too new to know - nobody seems to have one yet.

  • Are you sure that the stylus is even supported?

The Chuwi website doesn't event mention support for it, and only lists the keyboard as an accessory.

The video tends to indicate the currency version has pen but not the first version.

Also the whirlpool user reviews arent too good.

      • Also the whirlpool user reviews arent too good.

        A HUGE sample size of 3 - 1 DOA, 1 with problems, 1 all good…

    • Are you sure that the stylus is even supported?

Yes. It was the earlier Win only version that didn't. Yes, confusing.

Hi all. I bought this tablet from Banggood a few weeks ago. For what they are worth, here are my thoughts… The LCD doesn’t sit straight under the screen so it tapers left, meaning the LCD is closer to the edge of the bezel at the bottom right than at the top right - it's quite noticeable & gives a feeling of lopsidedness… When I booted up Windows someone had already logged in – so it was either a test or used unit… There is something wrong with the Android component - apps like Foxtel Go and ANZ are picking it up as being "jailbroken" and won't work… It gets hot – I mean, really hot - When I reformatted my Windows 10 to remove all my data, the tablet was almost unbearable to touch… My unit had dust between the screen and the LCD… It powered down randomly and needed a reboot… As the other reviews have said, steer clear of the keyboard, it's cheap & nasty.

    • Yes, but you even admit to being mad yourself. ;)

A shame to hear it, hope mine and everyone else's is OK. Have you contacted them about it?

As far as the KB goes - sure it's not brilliant, but at least it's cheap and nasty rather than expensive and nasty, and I prefer it to free but non-existent

      • Hopefully mine was the exceptionally poor unit. The Android issue is a worry tho. I have to send it back and the cheapest method still costs $68 :( at least PayPal covers $45 of it.

Just something re Banggood vs Gearbest, I ordered a Chuwi Hi8 from Gearbest about a year ago, along with an Android TV box. All arrived ok, in original packaging.

Few months ago ordered another Hi8 for the in-laws but from Banggood this time, again arrived ok but this one had been pulled out of its original packaging and stuffed awkwardly into a foam box (why, I'm not sure, their packaging ended up being larger and less securely packed than the original packaging.) It all looked in new condition and came with all the same stuff as mine did though.

Can't really read anything into it though I guess, seems to be luck of the draw.

banggood did mention in forum they open up and stuff more things in to prevent bump impact after a few spoilt on original packaging

I've seen some of their listings offering original packaging and simplified packing. If you check their Chuwi Hi12 listings, they have 2 options - with the cheaper one coming in their own polystyrene packaging.

  • Had it for a week now - no major complaints. Love the screen.
BQ of tablet is good. BQ of keyboard is not, but it works OK, don't think gestures can be turned off and touchpad is small so constantly minimising windows accidentally.
Stylus working at basic level but can't work out how to get buttons/pressure working in either OS.
Can only get decent charge rate from included charger (which is 3A w/euro plug BTW) - not sure why (other 2A chargers only charging at ~.7A.)
Biggest problem is probably weak WiFi. And why is the volume button backwards??
    Overall - very happy.

Edit: Apparently a BIOS update was released a couple of days ago which fixes the WiFi.
