It looks like the same model as the Bauhn MD15527 - $14.99 from last year. Here is my review of that model -

Ok I now have one, it feels well constructed with nice quality plastic that doesn't creek or move at all. It has a good size lcd screen that dispays the 6 charging compartments battery percentage plus the two 9V slots.
It will simultaneously charge 1 to 6 - AA/AAA. 1 to 4 - C/D & 1 to 2 - 9V.

The device will carry out a test of the batteries before starting the actual charging process. In order to preserve the batteries, the device initially starts with the precharging/regeneration of the batteries.
Your batteries will firstly be discharged if they are NiCd & then recharged. 9V can't be discharged with this device.

The control is Minus Delta U - which means at the end of charging the slight fall in the level of voltage is detected & the charge is ended.
The charging time is controlled separately for each battery.
Approx Charging Times - AAA 300-850mAh 0.9 - 2.5hrs. AA 800-2000mAh 1 - 3.5hrs. C 1800 - 4000mAh 2.5 - 5.5hrs. D 1800 - 4000mAh 2.5 - 6hrs. 9V 100 - 200mAh 2 - 5hrs.

Update - So after a year it seems to be working fine, but I'm not a heavy user. I don't have a separate way of measuring the charge.
Infidel was getting mixed results, see his comments here

Wait what? It's a bargain because the Aldi RRP is $5 more expensive than last year????

    • +4

It's a bit rude that they are charging more this year, but I posted it because it's from a bricks & mortar store with a great return policy. You've got 60 days to try it & return for easy refund.
If you can find something similar for around the same price or cheaper, feel free to post it.

      • Thks will get one …..does 9v batteries which none of my other chargers do.

    How is a 33% price increase a bargain ???

    • +6

If you can find a Delorean for under $5 then you have a valid point.

      • Unless they get their Delorean from Aldi in which case they can just return it when their finished with it.

        • The 30 day change of mind policy would need some reviewing.

    • -1

I'm sure Scott or malcom could make a price rise seem like a bargain
Bargain because it promotes jobs and growth.

  • Hey mate is a special buy? I cant find it online? just want to check some specs.

    • Says in 9days. So maybe check closer to the date.

    • They generally show the special buys for the next six days online only.

  • We should all be charging towards Aldi management for lack of brain cells considering the higher charge compared to last year.
Maybe they suffered from lead poisoning or just on a bad acid trip
We should all volt with our feet

  • Please understand the price increase. Last deal was on 15 May. The dollar was .8094

Look at our currency now. Everything is traded based on USD. Except made in local products.

    • +1

Meh, the dollar was 76c a week days ago. Using the exchange excuse is just a scam among electronic retailers, most others gadgets sold by aldi don't go up. I didn't see them selling the 4k TV for $444 last year.

Please understand the price increase. Last deal was on 15 May.

That doesn't make this a bargain, the price has gone up from what they used to sell it for…

  • +1

this or the one sold by ikea?

    • +2

This one does C, D and 9V cells too, the Ikea one doesn't. If you don't have any C, D or 9V cells, I'd go with the Ikea charger, simply based on price.

Disclaimer: I do have the Aldi charger, but I don't have the Ikea charger. The specs of the Ikea charger suggest it will perform identically.

Also, with the Aldi charger, I find that it sometimes incorrectly detects end-of-charge, before the battery has reached full charge. So I take the batteries out and re-insert them for a second charging cycle. If they were fully charged, the second charge cycle will terminate within 5 minutes. If not, I leave them charging.

  • do these work well with the sanyo eneloop batteries since i know alot of people bought those batteries from here?

  • would this be in the same league as the maha chargers oz bargainers love? I think the description alludes to this but is this a smart charger?

    • +1

This is a smart charger, but not really comparable the Maha C9000.

The Maha C9000 has a full LCD display, telling you how much power went into your battery, so you can tell when your batteries are dying of old age. It also lets you discharge the batteries and measure the capacity that way too. The Maha only does AA and AAA batteries. If your batteries have started to fail, the Maha will refuse to charge them.

The Aldi charger can do AA, AAA, C, D and 9V natteries. Its "display" is one multicolour LED per battery port, so you can't tell much. If your batteries are old and decrepit, it will still charge them, but you won't know that the batteries have low capacity unless you time how long the charge cycle took.

Also, one of the statements by the OP is misleading. The Aldi charger only discharges batteries if it detects that the batteries are NiCad batteries. Eneloops aren't NiCad batteries, they're NiMH batteries, so it won't discharge those. Although you can still buy NiCad batteries, they have no advantages over NiMH batteries, and have several disadvantages.

I copied & pasted that from somewhere but you are correct. I will edit the description. Thanks for the heads up.

        • A correction to my description above: in addition to the LEDs, the Aldi charger does have an LCD display, but it doesn't tell you battery capacity. It only tells you how far the charging cycle has gone, as a percentage, in 10% steps.

The Maha charger also lets you select the charging and discharging currents. It defaults to 1000mA charging if you don't select a charging current, which is just right for AA Eneloops, but too high for AAA Eneloops. I recommend 400mA for AAA. The Aldi charger isn't adjustable, but its charging currents are good for Eneloops (1000mA/500mA).

  • Bought one of these last year, working fine but it sometimes had trouble charging the drained out batteries so I had to jump start them before putting them in. The annoying thing about it is the blinking light if you leave it plugged in even when it's not charging.
I don't think the one last year has USB port so it probably costs extra $5 to add this feature in.

    • The one I bought 2 generations ago has a USB port. I think it also cost 19.99. I've been using it to charge eneloops no problems

    • I have the same problem, need to jump start the charging process if the battery is fully drainned.

The USB port is at the side. I bought one last year for $14.99 as well.

  • Bought one last year. Very happy with it!

  • Can anybody confirm this does single batteries not just work only in pairs. Also is this a fast or slow charger and how long does it domally take to charge a battery such as Eneloop AAA or AA?

I have one of the old Aldi Active Energy chargers frob a few years back still works fine except one of the 4 charging slots stopped working correctly. Always reports faulty battery yet battery charges fine in any of the other 3 slots.

    • This charger can charge a mixture of 6 AA/AAA at one time, and it can charge just 1 battery only.

after careful consideration and little cash ($27) i bought Aldi (Bahn) Charger and 4x Aldi LSD 2300MA AA's rechargable's. The charger does temp, U curve and individual cell sensoring.

From the pack and with the 200D spent the aftenoon around Sandgate with a very hunty 70-300mm auto-focuser, shooting much more than I usually would and putting more much more demand on the batteries than I usually would, ie multi-frame, flash etc…. Surpringsly the batteries lasted.
Got home, torched them for 35 minutes, let em rest for 80 minutes and put them in the charger…

The only think methinks amiss is this charger seems to charge batteries quite fast….
On the back it says 6X AA's at 1000MAMP Max…

It's belted the Aldi's up to 100% within 2.5 hours. I wonder if they;ll last

Sorry if i've dissappointed anyone by not getting the eneloops, it's just that they where going to cost $70-$80 with a worthy charger.

    • Thanks for the write up, I had a look at it today and it's a different model to last year (Model MD16704)
I own a pack of the Aldi aaa lsd rechargeables and they work great. I would definitely buy them again.

  • Can u not buy online from Aldi? No stores here but I can't see a way to buy online from their website

    • +2

No purchase online. No contact phone numbers for individual stores. So no stock level checks. You won't be able to buy if no store in your area. Basically if you don't want to miss out on the weekly specials, its best to line up before opening on Wednesday or Saturday to get them. As some of the more popular specials sell out rather quickly.

  • Will it charge camera batteries like
    CR123?

  • 1.2volts is it's nominal charge current
