The macbook air is $1548 at jbhifi, so 10% off that is $1393.20 which is cheaper than you mentioned.
It states the prices displayed are the prices after the discount. The MacBook Air at $1548 is after the 10% according to them. This is the same price at Harvey Norman and $50 more than Officeworks/TGG. I'm not sure why my original comment is being downvoted.

This same model is $1499 at Officeworks and TGG. It's $1548 at Harvey Norman as well. These stores do not have discounts on them, Apple store also has the same model for $1548 ($1478 for Education).

What do I need to do to get the 10% off? I'm already at the stage where I create an account, but the MacBook Pro (MJLT2X/A) which I picked still shows as $3796 where as its $3799 over at Apple's website.

Depends what you want! for me is the form factor.. And the display… Well, I got a surface pro 4 as well, on paper, it beats MacBook every single day, but it's just so unreliable and quite heavy if you use it as a tablet. So I'm selling that for this MacBook which has been great for the past couple days!
I beat ya, got JB to take 15% off the original price instead of Office works extra 5% and got the 13" retina pro for $1698 :)
10% off Apple Mac Computers isn't a real thing. Been thinking of getting the 2016 model the last couple days and all retailers have had the Macbook air for $1550 - $1499. So apparently JB's prices are already 10% higher.
