Why do people always refer to 2560 x 1440 as 2K?

    2K = 2048x1080

    QHD = 2560x1440

    • +1

People are calling it 2K because of the stupid 4K fad.

But in a sense 2560x1440 is 2k because these are based on the ratio of 16:9.

Just like how 4K is 3,840 x 2,160 which is literally not 4k. More like 2160p.

Just a stupid naming just let it be :P

      • Mmm. 16:9 equivalent of 2K is 1920x1080 (aka 1080p). Although 1080p technically isn't part of the 2K standard (there is no 16:9 resolution in 2K, only 1.9:1 , 1.85:1 and 2.35:1)

1440p is a difference standard all together.

        • Yeah stupid name. Not sure how people decided to name it 4K. It is annoying but nothing we could do since they pushed hard and people already took it in.

      • If you're going to so anal about it why are you adding a p to various resolutions, that has nothing to do with computer monitor specifications.

      • So what is true 4k?

        • +1

          4,096x2,160 (also JPEG2000, 12-bit 4:4:4.)

  • $14.45 post to WA

  • Great price. Exceptionally good monitor if you're in the creative field (photo/video/digital editing).

    • +4

Exceptionally good monitor if you're in the creative field (photo/video/digital editing).

      Not really.

The Ultrasharps used to be great - factory calibrated, 100% aRGB, low delta e and so on. But now they are just some kind of weird midrange, and you have to pay extra for the 'premiere color' models (in this case, the UP2716D) to get full color coverage.

This one is like 85% aRGB.

      • According to the Dell website, it is 99% sRGB. They don't seem to mention aRGB for these. The UP2715Q (5K) monitor has 99% Adobe RGB & 100% sRGB. I wouldn't have thought that there would be 14% difference between aRGB and sRGB, but I may be wrong.

        • I wouldn't have thought that there would be 14% difference between aRGB and sRGB, but I may be wrong.

srgb encompasses ~35% of visible colors in the CIE range, aRGB 50%.

Does it matter to most people? No.
But since it was specifically called out for photo/video/design, it quickly becomes an issue. To put it in perspective, the more expensive Dell is for people that don't want to spend $3500 on an Eizo coloredge.

      • Care to link other good monitors at this price point?

        • Hey, I love Dell monitors. My point was that I suspect (but don't know for sure) that there is not a huge difference between Adobe RGB and sRGB, so with 99% sRGB, I think that the aRGB will be a lot higher that the previous poster's stated 85%, but happy to be proven wrong.

The Dell website also says that this monitor comes with a factory calibration report, contrary to the advice above.

Even with the delivery charge, this is cheaper than Dell's price, even with the freely available 10% Dell coupon.

I am looking at a Dell 24 or 25" monitor as mine (U2410) is playing up a bit. It was a replacement after 4 years 10 months for my original U2408, which had a 5 year warranty (so the 2410 was a free replacement.

I want to know if buying an Ultrasharp through SE still gives the Dell Australia 3 year Premier panel replacement warranty ?

        • Care to link other good monitors at this price point?

I needed a 27“ with high colour gamut and didn't want to pay for the 27“ Dell premier colour so I bought the Samsung Series 8 SSLS27D85KTSN instead for about this price.

  • Damn was hoping they had the Dell G-sync one.
    Good deal nonetheless. Good find!

  • Do they have any IPS monitors with 1 ms response times in the market?

I've been using 144 Hz TN panels with 1 ms response time for the past 4 years. I can't stand using monitors without the high refresh rate and 1 ms response time. And yes, it does make a difference. I notice it having played FPS games all my life.

I bought a 4k 32" monitor, but ended up giving it to my mother, because the pixels were just too tiny.

    • No. It's a flaw of the technology that it just can't do transitions that fast.

      • What's the highest resolution that 1 ms response time monitors go, then? (Or, where can I go to learn about monitors?)

I'm also interested in a monitor as OP.

        Cheers.

        • +1

It's not really the resolution it's the fact it's IPS. You can get the Asus ROG Swift which is a 1440p 144Hz 1ms TN monitor. But anything IPS will have bigger response times. Some might will be better than others. Try TFT central for panel reviews and just try to read up on the terminology I guess.

        • Alright, thanks for the tips.

  • One of my 4yr old 27" dells is starting to play up. Randomly the screen goes black and I have to turn the monitor on and off to work again. I think it's the older model of this.

Was doing a bit of research earlier and was looking at the UP2716D
    http://accessories.ap.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=au&c…
Twice the price nearly. Will be used Strictly for photo editing…accurate colors are a must although I do calibrate my monitors.

Any major advantage with the 2716D?

    • Go buy a monitor off the Dell outlet store. There are so many on there.

      • Only decent one there is the 32"…would need two then :)

        • That's untrue.

$1000+ monitors aren't the only decent monitors. Most people still use 24" 1080p monitors.
Playing games on those sorts of monitors just hurts my eyes. Too big.

    QHD = Quarter High Definition.

    FHD = Full High Definition.

        My Bad, you are right.
        I feel silly.

Surely real OZBargainers will get the Korean brand monitors from Ebay. Same quality for half the price!

    • Mine still going great, had to replace the power brick but it was 15 bucks! Love that screen, time to upgrade to 4K now though. Looking at some of the Korean 4K ones and the Crossover 28" looks good value for money!

      • Which Korean brand monitor would your recommend?

        • Not sure hey! I've had my QNIX for nearly 3 years and it's been at 110hz the whole time. Absolutely love it! That's the only one I have bought though.

Logan and Wendell from Tek Syndicate do a lot of reviews on the Korean monitors (the old 1440p ones and the latest 4k ones) and you can get a pretty good idea about them from those guys :)

        • @Kugz:

          Crossover is good too

        • @HarveySpecter:

Yeah that's what I was looking at. I don't need one right now but soon I'll have to replace my old 24" that's on it's last legs

    • Used to be. They have gone up in price as people cottoned on to their popularity.

The one I purchased at the time lasted a year before a loud pop and a lot of smoke escaped - whole screen is dead now.

  • +1

Are the power/setting buttons on this monitor capacitive 'touch buttons'? There doesn't appear to be physical 'clicky' buttons on the underside from what images reveal.

    • +2

Yeah they are capacitive. I have the U2414H and they're the same

  • Wish there was a glossy option. For me, matte seems to make colours a bit washed out.

    • lol I am the complete opposite. I will never ever buy a glossy screen after using one for 7 years. It is one of the main reasons I don't use macbooks.

It's a $180 monitor, colours aren't gonna be that great anyway.

      • $180? Think you're in the wrong thread, haha. I wish this was $180.

        • oops. I thought this was the Dell outlet thread.

  • Does this monitor come directly Dell, or from ShoppingExpress ?

Does this monitor from SE come with the normal 3 year Premier Panel exchange warranty ?

    • Warranty is already listed on the page as; 3 Year Manufacturer Warranty

      • Yes, but on the SE website it says "3 year limited warranty" for the U2515 that I am looking at - both are Ultrasharps that Dell covers with the full 3 year Premier Panel exchange warranty, so which is it ?

Looking further, the Ultrasharps on the SE website vary from a 1 year manufacturer warranty, to a 3 year limited warranty, to one panel having a 3 year manufacturer warranty ??

  • I have the 2407WFP and it's still going strong.

    • My 2005FPW just celebrated its 10th birthday.

  • Skycomp selling U2715H for $629 as well..

    • Saw that yesterday, expensive post though :/
