Gold Coast to Shanghai $289 (One Way) Via AirAsia (Mid Year School Holidays)

160

For some reason, it's about $500 to buy a one way ticket to Kuala Lumpur on the same website. However, if you change the destination to Shanghai (transit at Kuala Lumpur) the flight is only $289. Sadly, return flights are almost double.

Yes, there's a very long layover, but that means there's enough time to head into the city and have a long nap at a hotel followed by a good feed, or you could pay about $75 for a room for 6 hours at an airport lounge.

  • 14hrs layover is a very long time. If I remember correctly, it costs about $30 for the express train to the city. Getting a cheap return flight is a problem, even from other airports in China.

    • You could maybe nab a cheap flight to Tokyo from Shanghai, then take Jetstar home

      • Have tried that also. Thx

This is about normal price. At least from Melbourne. Unfortunately they check your visa in Australia for China so it doesn't make a cheap trip if you get off in KUL. MEL-Beijing is only $269 in school holidays and has been for a couple of months. I guess they're really trying to put pressure on the Chinese airlines.

KUL - Tehran is only $100AUD at the moment which I think is a great deal but return trip is around $250. Obviously not a destination everyone would be interested in.

I've never seen these flights this cheap, so I think it's a sale of some sort. Couldn't you apply for a transit visa in China? 72 hours for free.

      • I thought it had to be on the same ticket but further reading makes me believe that you may be correct. Perhaps if you wanted to go to Hong Kong, Japan etc. it could be a cheap trip.

        • Only worth it if you want to visit China..or go to kl for cheap maybe..

You might want to add/edit that it's cheaper to Beijing/Chengdu and available from other cities although it has been pretty consistently about this price.

        • I don't have the resources to go through all the options. Feel free to add what you find to the comments, though

Booked flights on Friday to Tehran for $103 AUD very cheap! Now i just have to seek if ill be granted a visa after traveling to Israel & West Bank (No Israel stamp in passport)

Fingers crossed. As long as you don't have an exit stamp on bordering country I think you should be good… I was looking at just getting visa on arrival but maybe not the best in your case. New passport time?

        • I would if i didnt only just pay for a new passport after i ran out of pages, filled it up quickly thanks to OZBARGIN haha

Might be a problem because i have a entry stamp to Jordan but no departure stamp from Jordan as i crossed to Israel by land and you do not receive departure stamps leaving Jordan by land to Israel.

I may look into doing the Visa on arrival also. Maybe travel back towards China via The Silk Road route.

      • davo, what route is that to Tehran? How did you manage the return?

I didn't book a return flight just a one way from KL - Tehran.

They are flying direct to Iran from KL (AIRASIA X)& Bangkok (THAI AIRASIA X)
