  • Would this work at their eBay store?

    • +6

      No

    • -4

yeah, you can also use your dick smith gift card and collect myer point as well

  • -2

Although it said gift card purchase are excluded, can they track it?

    • +3

This kind of questions were answered too many times before. Usually gift card purchases are not tracked.

    • Yes

    • Online gift card purchases takes you to http://giftvouchers.com.au/ so im guessing you wont get credit back.

    • +1

You must be new here. Someone answered this question again and I just want continue the answer. It also applies to other stores: Harvey Norman, David Jones, Myer, Apple…etc..
So if you see these stores, you don't have to ask this question again.

      • i am sure he will forget..

    • +3

      The ninja strikes again.

    • The Ninja who never speaks cheers :)

  • expires 25 June. Just in time for a EOFY tax deduction.

  • +2

Thanks Trent. Bit better than the HN deal in this one only requires a $300 spend compared with a $350 spend.

  • Thanks Trent

  • If you have 4 amex cards, and register them all-
Can you ask TGG to split the payment (buying a $1200 item) across the 4 cards, put $300 on each card and get $50 back per payment?
    Thanks in advance

    • +1

      I did that with HVN.

    • +1

      Yes you can

  • Hmmm any dyson deals to use this with?

    • The EBay Collect sale is better than $50 off for most of the vacuum cleaners and hand sticks. I got the hand stick, which was $399 for $319.20.

      • yeah saw that deal, just bought it :D thanks for reminding me!!

  • Is it $50 in store credit or cash back for this offer?

    • +1

$50 statement credit on your AMEX card

    • Credit should appear on your billing statement

  • +2

I noticed the following in T&C:

Purchases of Apple, ASKO, Miele, Neff, Jennair, Falcon, delivery, installation services or purchases utilising previously earned Store Credits do not qualify for this promotion.

Did anyone had any issues getting the cash back buying Apple products, eg iPad?

    • +2

Could a work around be a buying a gift card and the buying Apple or any other above mentioned brands with a gift card?
      Just a thought

      • Thats exactly what i was thinking

      • +1

Has anyone successfully bought a gift card from the Good Guys and received cashback from this offer? I only ask because no-one has reported success (or failure) in prior Good Guys Amex cashback deals. Especially if there is more than one payment portal for the Good Guys… it is possible that this won't work either.

        • yes, was just wondering if anyone got the credit for buying a Gift card ?

        • +1

          OzBargainers Rejoice!

I bought a $900 TGG gift card paid with three cards on 25 May. I just noticed today that I got $150 cashback back dated to 26 May.

    • I can't see how amex would know what you spend on. All they would see is a transaction of "x" amount. Not what product was purchased.

    • Never had an issue buying Apple. However the listed european brands definately won't get cash back as payment is made through their own gateway :( these stores are merely agents for the euro brands.

      • I tried purchasing an Apple iPad from The Good Guys the last time AMEX had the cash back offer and it was not honoured by AMEX (as per their T&C's).

        • Did you buy it in store or online?

        • @maxi: I purchased in the store (The Good Guys - Caringbah)

        • @changa:
I did not think they could track purchases paid by credit card in store.
I was planning to buy the visa gift cards from HN but now I am wondering if they can track that they are gift cards and not give the $50 rebate.

        • @maxi: Are they the only1 cards like they have at coles? Do they have a set demonination and an activation fee?

        • @maxi: I assume they must be able to track your purchase otherwise why would they specify exclusions? In any event, they knew I purchased an iPad and managed to not give me the cash back last time.

        • @JIMB0:
Not sure. I have not seen them yet.

Can someone find a way to combine this offer with eBay deal? Thanks.

    • Anyone tried price matching the 20% off in store? I've done it before a few yrs back on another % discount deal (think I was trying to avoid delivery pre click and collect days) and it worked, haven't for this particular deal though.. Worth trying?

      • +1

I did and they declined and said that was the eBay promotion, not theirs.

      • eBay pay the 20%, so no chance.

  • +1

I saw that Harvey Norman sells Visa gift cards

Anyone know if Good Guys sells any physical gift cards at their stores?

    • +1

Have you bought the Visa Gift cards from HN and get credits?

      • +1

Yeah in general the store only sends the amount not what you purchased to AMEX

        • What was the load fee for the visa gift card?

        • @Skimpywallet:

          5.95

Variable load so you can do exactly 350 if you want

        • +1

Really! I did not know that if we can buy a visa debit card at HN and still get credits. I'll give it a go today. Thanks.

        • @paultiffen:

I tried this morning at HN. You cannot load exactly $350, you can only load 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500 amounts.

        • @divious:
No cash advance issues using Amex to buy the prepaid VISA? I know the Woolies POS doesn't allow credit cards. What denomination did you end up getting?

        • +3

          @takamine:

no cash advance fee, just like you buy goods at HN, I bought 2 cards, $200 and $500 using my 2 amex cards, charged $350 for each. However, I had to pay $5.95 loading fee for each cards.

        • @divious: No Cash advance fee on AmEx I believe. May I know if you can take the cash out from the gift cards?

        • +1

          @macksta:

of course you cannot take out cash.

        • @divious: am I missing something? As title as credit for TGG but you guys are all talking about HN? Is there a similar deal? Thanks

        • @sydney.jj: yes. Spend $350 get $50 back.

        • @bluedufflecoat: got it now, cheers

        • +1

          @divious:
It clearky states " Gift Cards and Phone orders are not applicable"
May it depend from who processes the payment at the register?
The Visa cards can be used for anything.

        • @divious: Let us know when you get your cashback.

        • @paultiffen
My local Harvey Norman are not selling any visa gift cards. They are only selling normal harvey norman gift cards which can be used in harvey norman only. Can you tell me which store you visited please?

        • @salman679:

Sent out a couple of messages

Anyone have an answer to what gift cards are available at the Good Guys?

        • @divious:
Did you log on your Amex credit card account to check the decription of the purchase for the cards?
I have never seen a description of what was actually purchased on the statement but Changa mentions that they knew he purchased an Ipad and refused the cash back.

        • +1

          @maxi:

Hi Yes, It likes other times I purchased at Harvey Norman, the description is Harvey Norman Oxley…

Harvey Norman charged me using the same terminal that they did for any customers, not a separate terminal.

Many people said this Harvey Norman or any other stores, Amex has no tools to track what we bought and even they know that we bought they don't care. They just want us to spend the money, that's it! Full stop.

          My card is Amex Discovery.

        • @paultiffen:

my local store only stocks The Good Guys gift cards and no others.

        • @divious:
Thank you. Just to be sure ;-)

    • Which Harvey Norman did you find them in?

      • They are in a few

        • Any in NSW that you have been and actually saw? What brand are they?

  • +3

Even if you spend the absolute minimum of $300, you're still only getting a 16.66% discount, which is less than the 20% off eBay deal.
There may be some products only available outside of the eBay store but otherwise this isn't a good deal at all.
(I realise this AmEx offer may last longer than the eBay deal)

    • Agree. If item available on both eBay and in-store/online, better off with eBay 20% plus possible cash back.

    • +3

I've still registered anyway as their EOFY sales will be around the corner. Then this discount will have a multiplier effect (e.g. a $400 item down to $300 minus another $50 = 38% discount instead of 25%).

And at the end of the day if I don't use this offer, I'm no worse off.

    • There may be some products only available outside of the eBay store but otherwise this isn't as good of a deal.

      FIFY.

    • Nothing wrong with it for products not on their eBay store.

  • -1

Do they sell Apple product like iPhone?

  • The 20% off sale on eBay works out better value.

    • That is true if you want to buy something from TGG or HN.
But if you can get the Visa Prepaid Cards you can use them to pay anything (car rego due next week…) and still get the rebate.
Are the Visa Cards only available in HN? Do they have them at TGG?

  • -1

The ebay Deal is better. 20% on $300 is $60 and goes up . bought a freezer and saved over $100

    • Hi how did you buy the freezer in ebay and saved 100.
      Can you elaborate please?

    • Can the voter explain the neg please.

  • eBay deal at the moment( search for it) 20% off up to $500 discount.

    • See sage's post above for the link. Code Is COLLECT

  • Anyone can confirm that they have bought $300 gift card using Amex and got the $50 statement credit? Thanks.

    • +1

I have bought $300 gift card last week and received the $50 credit.

      • Thanks for the reply. Another question I have is, if I buy item online costing $1000, can I use 2x or 3x $300 gift card and remaining with CC?

        • NO.. unfortunately, systems are not that clever yet

        • @spk: Do you mean I can only use 1 gift card online?

If that's the case, can I just buy a $900 (if I can choose the denomination) or $1000 (if that's the only denomination) gift card in TGG store, split payment using 3x Amex cards… and then use the gift card online with balance on CC?

        • @lilkid28: Yes for both

        • @lilkid28: why do you want to buy the item online only and not in-store ?

        • @lilkid28: is that stackable with Gift cards ?

        • @spk: Would be interested to know too.. someone suggested in the comments not possible.
