Medela Swing Electric Breastpump with Pumping Starter Pack $225 + Shipping ($12) @ Babies'R'Us

130

This is the cheapest I've found for an Australia based retailer. The pump without bottles and storage bags is $238 at Chemist Warehouse and $235 at NursingAngel.com.au.

Includes Swing Electric Breast Pump, plus extra value pack with 1x calma teat, 5x pump and save breast milk bags, 1x 150ml bottle and 1x 250ml bottle with multilids for storage.

Pumping starter pack is supposed to be worth over $50 of extra value.

If you can get to a store it's a good deal. Shipping to Brisbane came out to $12, so I imagine it would be the same for other major cities.

Medela are a great brand for breastpumps.

    • -2

And an even greater brand for overpricing.

  • +1

The Mrs used this and it was a great unit.

Also can do battery power so she could still express away from home.

    Great to use with Eneloops.

  • Worth the money. These are best breast pumps on the market imo.

    • Breast best pumps?

Got one for my wife a while back and it's lasted really well - daily use for 3 kids. And the occasional Milo.

check peoductreview, medala isnt great at all. get one from Spectra , its way better. if you can wait, they will have a sale in june.

  • Spectra is much better in comparison to medela. Its also a closed system and holds its resell value.

    • Really? What model would you recommend? S2?

      • +2

I would recommend the Spectra S2 if you can afford it. We bought the cheaper DEW350 but it doesnt have a letdown mode which can make expressing difficult for some.
As a rule of thumb, 'Hospital Grade' pumps are the ones to look for.

        • Thanks for that, appreciate your advice.. So many products to choose from!

          @strid85:

          S2 is the better one.

          @rack:

Also try and get a second hand one. Its just a motor so shouldn't matter. Buy your own pumping kit for hygiene reason.

  • From our experience these are great for travel but ideally hire a commercial unit, they have more suction, and get the job done quicker. ideally expressing is a stop gap to getting baby to attach properly to non presenting or over sensitive nipples.

4 kids and this model has lasted through, used occasionally in conjunction with a hired unit (I forget which one)

    • Don't know about this model.
But do recommend electric pump highly for anyone choosing breastfeeding - even if baby latching isn't going to be an issue.
Great for building up a supply of milk in the freezer in case you're ill, for night bottle feeding (we dual fed both of ours, after a few months), for the babysitter to bottle feed and especially if you're going back to work (I recommend putting a lock on the coolbag used to store breastmilk in fridge at work - have heard stories of people using it in their coffee by mistakešŸ˜Ø).
I also used it when we had a weekend away when bub was quite small and not yet on solids - I didn't store the milk but expressing kept up the flow etc.
If you can afford it electric is best and then ensure it is one that can use batteries as well.
Not a glamourous baby purchase but a sound investment if you're serious about breastfeeding - certainly got my money's worth of use with 2 kids (too long ago to remember model but would have been over $400 back then).
Given the uncertainties of breastfeeding, I agree a model that keeps it's value for 2nd hand resale is a good idea.

Didn't work so well for me.
I was looking for new ways to express myself.
    My wife thinks I'm crazy.

    • She was not impressed I gather.

    • You need to give birth first to be able to get breast milk

      • +2

Not really, I just asked my wife and she gave it to me.

  • The unit by itself is often $180 at target. Check out price hipster It comes with a calma bottle and teat in the normal pack but not the storage bags or other bottles. Wide is pretty happy with the unit, i think you have to be doing something pretty wrong to get milk in the pump.

    • +2

" Wide is pretty happy with the unit "
She put on a bit of weight after the baby ey?

  • I've used one of these before and it worked well for me when going back to work. It is small and easily portable. If you are solely express feeding, then I'd recommend a double pump to save you time.

I especially like that this comes with the bottle and bags for easy storage.
