This is not really a bargain compared to the cheapies out there with "half-crank" engines.

However for smoothness, lower noise and longer life the full-crank is definitely better.

What is the difference between a half crank and a full crank engine?
Full crank engines have the started typically located at the back of the engine.
Half crank engine will have the starter located between the engine and the shaft.

    Who cares right? You do.

Half crank engines only have bearings on the load end of the crankshaft (because there is no crankshaft on the other end…).

Full crank engines have a better balance with bearings on both ends of the crankshaft (because the crankshaft actually runs past the piston and has a place for bearings on the back side).

This greatly improves the longevity of the engine. Typically half crank engines are light to medium duty, throw away type units. Full crank engines are heavier duty, professional style units.

    • From my engineering background…..

Every Victa 2 stroke is 1/2 crank, issues with unsupported/non bearing side 1/2 crank…..ZERO.

I have NOT seen a Chinese motor with 1/2 a crank, but like i said will made NO DIFFERENCE to performance

NOT a good deal, this is more or less the same as the Pope blower and others, all out of the same factory in China, $99 is the normal everyday price

        Errr… No, they aren't.

like i said will made NO DIFFERENCE to performance

Actually you didn't say. However, it's got nothing to do with performance - and an engineer would know that [wink].

No, this is more or less the same as the $199 to $259 name-brand blowers from Ryobi, McCulloch, etc. It's identical to this $229 Victa at Bunnings. Even a blind engineer could see the similarities [wink].

The cheap ones (around $100 mark) are half crank. Horrible, rattly throw-away things.

Looking forward to seeing a link to these "Pope blower and others, all out of the same factory in China, $99 is the normal everyday price" that you mention.

Show me 1 for under $99… You know, to substantiate your neg vote

          @8200:

This product has been discontinued by Pope

Umm what are you getting at? You didn't link to a company selling it.

        • @8200:

          PRODUCT NOT AVAILABLE
We're sorry, this product is currently unavailable.

        • @Spackbace:

909, Kogan, Parklands, Bunnings, Ross etc etc are all selling the same unit, different color/brand name same unit same price $99 everyday price

Every company has had a bash at selling this blower

Its like the 52cc/20" Chinese chainsaw, $60 and up, i agree INSANE price and i cannot fault it being engineer background and all

        • @8200:

909, Kogan, Parklands, Bunnings, Ross etc etc are all selling the same unit, different color/brand name same unit same price $99 everyday price

          Oh REALLY?

Yet you STILL CANNOT provide us one link to one of these at $99 ??

Must be blowers only purchased by Unicorns, huh?

        • @llama:

Seen and raised, $69 SMASHED OUT OF THE FIELD!!

          https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/909-26cc-full-crank-petrol-engi…

          Game Over!

        • @8200:

          *** SO MUCH WIN! ***

          The internetz are yours!

          I was waiting for…

the same unit, different color/brand name same unit same price $99 everyday price

But the Kogan was fairly close, I guess.

          @llama:

          Relax!! You played well

But i been fiddling with small engines for near 30 years

          I NOW HATE THEM :-)

BTW Kogan/"DickSmith" is making $10 on that unit

        • @8200:

But i been fiddling with small engines for near 30 years

Unfortunately I've been fiddling with them a LOT longer than that LOL.

I didn't even know Victa made a half crank (introduced in 1984 or 1985, as everything I've rebuilt was earlier than that. Racing minibike with Series 70 125 FTW LOL

        • @llama:

Sadly at the end of next month that dies :-( hard to believe

Yes, the Aussie made Powerstroke 160cc is ending production

Poor sales, emissions, etc caught up with it

Another piece of Aussie Made dies

No more 2 stroke mowers [well new ones anyway]

  • My post above is simply to explain to people here that there is a difference between these small engines.

Do your own research - perhaps ask an engineer who actually knows something about small engines.

They all come out of the same common factory in China, hence they ARE ALL 26cc, IE34F donk, gee how they hell could i even know all that technical information??, FACT i pulled down DOZENS of these and know about these inside/out as much if not more as anybody else who has been associated with them in Oz!

Welcome for you to know you own engineer here in me!

      • FACT i pulled down DOZENS of these and know about these inside/out as much if not more as anybody else who has been associated with them in Oz!

Well, I agree about your expertise in pulling something…

You don't need to prove that there are many of these blowers rebranded.

What you DO need to do is prove your statement that "$99 is the normal everyday price".

Or revoke your neg (like a professional lawn mower engineer would do)

        • @8200:

          ******* $69 *********

          Well done, finally.

Nothing like the Sanli, but after a couple of hours of searching you eventually found one LOL.

        • @llama:

          Thanks for playing!

I mentioned 909 and Kogan in my first post, searched nothing

Yes, THEY ARE ALL THE SAME, different colours and brand names

Go strip a few apart and refer back to me

Its INSANE price, throw away item!

  • Is Sangli a good brand?

    • Sanli* :-)

Bang for buck as good as anything else, and YES its THE SAME blower…again, backs 100% what i said above [forgot to add that to the list] same/same.

As long as you know you CANNOT spend a little and get a lot you will be fine

For domestic use you will be fine with it

The best blower on the market is actually AUSSIE MADE, made by ATOM Inds. but you will pay for it

http://www.atomindustries.com/atom-hand-blowers/ This is Honda powered, they have a cheaper 2 stroke version out soon [ Hi Angelo :-) ]

Here is my PRICELESS tip, BUY from a mower dealer, NOT a department store.

  • Masters had a backpack no-name 26cc petrol blower for $99 "down from $199" ~1 year ago, I would hold out for another one of them.
Probably the same unit and quality but a lot more ergonomic.

  • Still a pile of these Sanli blowers near the front door at Masters Northmead in Sydney.

They are quite a nice unit, but a bit heavy for my liking. I looked to upgrade a very light weight McCulloch that I use at home… these Sanlis feel about double the weight (but Sanli's certainly a better unit overall)
