THis has been on the outlet for a few days now. The price is not worth it imo.
You can get similar 1080p monitors for the same price with 3 years warranty.

    • +10

Yes the warranty is the sticking point however I disagree that you can get 'similar' monitors for the same money.

Dell beats the competing brands by a fair margin as far as connections and build quality goes.

Maybe some people dont care about that but look at how much variety of stuff you can hook into the Dell… 2 x hdmi, mini dp, full size dp, usb charge… the thing is so far ahead of the asus acers benqs etc of the world its not funny.

      • -7

They are made from a Chinese factory so all Dell does is re-branding them and the same things do Asus, Acer, Benq etc. etc.
Also why they don't show the picture?

        • +1

I'm not arguing about country of origin or picture quality.

I'm arguing what is there in black and white… its an IPS unit with heaps of connections.

Good luck with your crappy 2nd tier TN monitors with single hdmi and vga…

        • +1

Dell monitors might be made by Chinese factories, but Chinese factories make a lot of things to varying degrees of quality.

Dell monitors have good QC and warranty which make them worth their premium.

        • +1

@StrayfireX: I think Dell lost some of their premium (your call) quality here with only 1 year warranty.

        • @dealhunt:

There's a reason these are called "As New" and not "New"

You're buying an "As New" U2414H and not a "New" U2414H - That's the difference between them, the warranty.

        • +1

          @tonyjzx:

IPS units from other manufacturers cost the same amount of money as this dell panel.
Most come with a display port, or HDMI, DVI and VGA. Why are you talking about TN panels?

        • +1

Show me one then, I still doubt it comes close to this Dell.

        • @XeKToReX: Yeah tell it to the previous user who is talking about premium 1 year warranty.

        • +1

Apart from the screen quality the others are talking about the adjustable and really solid stand of the Dell is a selling point all on it's own.

    • +2

Totally worth it for things like photo editing. For starters this is an 8 bit panel (instead of typical 6 bit on most others) and 96% sRGB.

      • Yep, full review with LOTS of detail here:

        http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2414h.htm

Basically a premium Ultrasharp screen, with extremely thin bezel, and about as good colour as you can get without dropping another $400 and going wide gamut (which can complicate normal use).

I have one and it's pretty good. A huge step up from generic cheap monitors of you play games, watch movies, do graphic/photo stuff, etc.

    • I question whether it really is a similar panel. I have a cheap ips panel and my friend's dell ultrasharp destroys it for picture quality and photo galleries editing due to overall better reproduction of colours.

  • +4

i want this monitor, but i don't need it. Ozbargain is making me poor!!!

  • +3

Don't cut your self on this!

  • +1

I love this monitor. I have had it for 2 years. tempting to get a few more.

  • Nice, the only disappointment for me is that it hasn't dropped in price for years :)

    • agreed

  • +1

I bought this monitor for like $289 2 years ago from Dell.com.au with 3 year warranty.

    I have owned U2312H, U2412M, U2413, U2414H. IMHO I think 2414 is the worst in these four.

    • +3

How come? I'm looking at getting one and would like more info.

  • +4

Just got this from their online chat, hope it helps:

I don't get why people buy dell monitor especially this one. No gsync or freesync from a gamer point of view

    • +4

      Not meant for gamers.
Dell monitors have lots of ports. Good for workplaces, where someone could have a Mac, or a PC with VGA and DP, or another PC with just HDMI, as an example

    • +5

Not everyone is a gamer. Good panel quality, design and a very sturdy stand that can be adjusted in various ways including orientation. You might be able to over clock these for gaming but nothing more than 80ish Hz I think.

    • +3

They're fine for non fps games. The included mount is excellent and the colours are accurate

    • +5

Tilt, Pivot, Swivel, Height Adjust, Colours, Viewing Angles.
These are the reasons I love my UltraSharps (1x U2412M and 2x U2312HM)

Gaming, I feel held-back more by my broadband than by my monitors.

    • I'm looking for a new larger, 4k gaming monitor, probably 24-27inch, would prefer bigger. Anything you guys would recommend?

      • Free sync or gsync enabled monitor will suit you fine. The most you want as a pc gamer is reducing the screen tearing

        • +2

Problem is Gsync panels are horrendously expensive and I dont buy Nvidia cards anyway.

Freesync panels for the same price are very very low end AOC and that type of trash.

For many people gaming at FHD 60hz is fine.

If you never owned a Dell U series then you cant compare them to mass market Asian stuff.

        • +3

We survived just fine before free-sync and G-sync were a thing, it's not like they're mandatory features for a decent gaming experience.

        • @ProspectiveDarkness: "OMG MY SCREEN IS TEARING!! HAALP!!" >_>

          Bitch please.

      • +1

Depends if you want accurate colours and darks, or a washed out image with fast response times.

Dell, HP, and LG all offer top quality monitors if you're willing to splash some cash on the former.

BenQ and ASUS are great for the latter.

        • Around how much are we talking? I dont really want to be buying a 1k+ monitor. Is it possible to get something decent in the 500-600 range?

    • There are freesync/gsync monitors for $230 now? Awesome, please let us all know where we can get them.

Do they also have the excellent colour reproduction, and otherwise great picture quality of this one?

      • +1

There ARE freesync monitors for $230. They just arent very good being TN fast refresh things. That's a fair point… if you want it, go buy it.

I take issue with the Gsync thing. They are massively expensive and dont even bare comparison. If you want to spend $500+ then go ahead.

If you're a CS:GO twitch freak then yeah great. I dont spend all day in games so I prefer something that has semblence of accurate colour.

  • the s series are pretty nice too (they're the glassy reflective panels)

  • -5

$259 at centre com with 3 years warranty

  • +3

To anyone saying you can get cheaper monitors in this range. Yes, you can. But they're all 6-bit IPS panels. This, as far as I'm aware, is an 8 bit panel which makes it much better for photo editing for example where you want proper color reproduction.

Modern 6-bit IPS panels are shit. Also 96% sRGB which is good as value for this price.

  • +2

Ok so if this is the U2414H it will come with the following Connectivity

    2 HDMI(MHL) connector
    1 Mini DisplayPort
    1 DisplayPort (version 1.2a)
    1 DisplayPort out (MST)
1 Audio Line out (connect your speakers)
4 USB 3.0 ports - Downstream (4 at the back, 1 with battery charging)
    1 USB 3.0 port - Upstream

So the big thing that no other monitor supports built-in is Display port MST, so if you have a surface pro 2/3/4 us can drive multipliable numbers of these monitors via daisy chaining from one output.

  • +2

Because I like tables so much, I added a table.

But TLDR is this is NOT for gaming (more for work, and photos), and is terrible for gaming due to the slow pixel response rates. But your games will look fabulous in 8-bit colour and this is also an IPS monitor, so very good 178 degree viewing angles.

    • I run a secondary HP LP2475W alongside my main LG 27EA83B. I much prefer the colour accuracy, quality darks, and excellent viewing angles over the slight advantage of less ghosting of the quicker TN panels.

      • That's because you're not a competitive gamer.

Any gamer who actually wants to have an advantage looks for higher refresh rates and faster response times.

You're too busy looking at colours, which are irrelevant to people who play competitively. They do have 144 Hz IPS panels now, but they cost a lot.

        • +6

If you were a competitve gamer you wouldnt be wasting your time here. You'd have more important things to do. LOL.

To be fair, if you're a gamer then you already know the ins and outs and PCs and that sort so you wouldnt even be looking at this Dell.

        • +2

          I didn't say I was :)

The higher refresh helps when it comes to twitch movements, but unless you're mechanically capable like the paid pros, you're not going to benefit much.

If you want an everyday monitor that provides a great overall experience beyond competitive gaming, the 8 and 10 bit IPS panels are going to offer this.

        • @Online Bathroomware:

Global elite 4 years running :p
          That's my career.

  • +3

If you are not a gamer, look for a 16:10 Dell panel instead. There are various models, all IPS or similar I believe.

Much much better for all desktop uses.

    • -1

It's 120 extra lines, the difference is hardly night and day.

      • +2

Gotta disagree here. While it's obviously not life-changing, that extra 120 pixels is lovely to have. I would take it over 1080 any day of the week.

        • But for the price premium? Meh. The average person is served perfectly well by 1080p.

        • +1

@ProspectiveDarkness: It depends on the premium I suppose. I have no idea of the difference in price. Given my experience with 1080 vs 1200 - if the difference was up to the $70 mark, it would still be worth it - personally. The extra space that 120 vertical lines provides is quite surprising.

        • @ProspectiveDarkness:

I purchased a 16:10 "as new" premium monitor from the outlet a few months ago for about $240 delivered.

So not a big premium over other IPS panels, just wait for a good deal.

No bad pixels, unopened, very nice.

  • Just tried purchasing one but was unable to as the rep said they have sold out.

    • Confirmed. I'm marking this as expired.

  • Just spoke to the Dell rep and apparently this is sold out :(

    3:36:00 PM Agent Bharathi
Thank you for your patience got a confirmation from my team the unit is not available

  • Someone just bought all of them? It went from 51 left to zero within 5 minutes. :/

    • +1

Stock is by no means live… It's all manually updated.

      • Yeah, there were maybe 5 left by the time this hit front page. Probably stock levels from the weekend.

  • -2

    2016..still 1080p…wow.

    • This model has been around for yonks.

    • +3

Still the best choice for most people, and will be for some time yet.

Even for gaming, since you may have to sacrifice ultra settings and high framerates to go up in resolution.

      Personally I wouldn't go above 1080p yet without a $400 GPU.

      • Why? My phone is quad-HD, with integrated battery-powered graphics, and seems to manage OK.

        • +5

Because it takes a bit more to run Crysis than Angry Birds.

        • +1

          @ProspectiveDarkness:
I see. I missed that mgowen was still talking about games. I agree that 1080 is plenty there, or for movies.

But static text and image do benefit.
And there is nothing to stop you playing games at 1080p or lower on a higher-res monitor.

        • +2

          @manic:
Doesn't windows still have irritating scaling issues with 4K-ish resolutions?

I think for any moving image, movie or game, there is little benefit beyond 1080 line.

Aside from the fact that it looks better?

        • @manic: If you want to run movies with high resolution (because upscaling has its limitations), they tend to be in codecs that a lot of computers will struggle with (Phones and tablets with 4K resolution tend to have a hardware decoder for a lot of those codecs).

Besides, I kinda dislike how Windows handles high resolution, I think it's wonky (I have Surface Pro 3, which has resolution of 2160x1440). HiDPI still has issues with a lot of programs.

        • +1

          @johnno07:

Doesn't windows still have irritating scaling issues with 4K-ish resolutions?

          Fortunately, don't know, don't care :-)

Hmmm … maybe I should. … yes, Linux has trouble too. Only OS-X works well at 4K out of the box. Thanks.

  • Ordered one. Thanks!

    • +1

      Lucky you :)

  • Purchased one cheers.

  • +1

did they downgrade their monitors? I got mine a while ago but it was proper 24" and 1900x1200 resolution

  • Bought this for A$244 in March 2014…

  • S2415H (glossy version of U2414H but cannot adjust height) not a bad choice if you just use as a big display from your laptop via HDMI. I think the glossy gives more vibrant colors and if glare is not your problem. Only one left though

  • +1

Ive always been a huge fan off the dell ultrasharps, imo best monitors on the shelves. Quality is second.
