Interesting choice of words they've used - return for $70 OFF

Makes people quickly think the return trip is $70.

    Ahhh bloody marketing!!

    • +1

      The art of manipulation.

I saw the newsletter and immediately read this as "return for 70 aud". I think word choice is a bit deceptive.

  • My biggest beef with Scoot is that taxes don't appear to be included in advertised ticket price.. Misleading.

    • they are included

    • +1

If you're not using the Aus version of the site then that may be the case, but I don't think any Aus version of a site is allowed to display prices that aren't inclusive of taxes.

      • I use the app…that may be why?

  • The luggage on a return flight will be approximately $70 $82. So with $70 off, they're offering FREE LUGGAGE.

  • Has anyone flown with Scoot before? My mum and brother needs to go Singapore in august and having never used them before I fear for their safety haha

    • I wouldn't be concerned about safety, but be concerned about everything else on board. At night it gets super cold, so make sure you bring a jumper because they only sell blankets and don't have enough.

Pretty much bring your own books and entertainment and you're good.

    • They are a subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, and so, personally, I would trust them safety wise, however I have heard a lot of grumblings about seat comfort, leg space, and crummy food (none of which are important to me)

If you're concerned about safety when flying an airline (especially an airline like Scoot) then you shouldn't get in a car. Driving a car is many times more dangerous than flying.

If you're still concerned, then fly Qantas/BA/Singapore Airlines for an extra $200 (if you feel it is safer).

I personally have flown them before and I quite enjoyed the flight. You can buy some Wi-Fi on board too (although it's not particularly cheap). Seats were fine and the window shade was cool (it's a 787 with dimmable windows).

      • Only $200 extra for the full service airlines compared to a Scoot sale? I would've thought it's more than that, even for a one-way ticket.

        • I'm probably thinking about sale fares lol
$400ish on Scoot would be considered cheap (not cheapest, but still cheap)
$650ish on one of the premium carriers during a good sale.

One-way tickets can be more expensive than a return, especially on full service carriers. So you're definitely not wrong.. only because one-ways are ridiculously priced on certain full service carriers.

cool thanks for the heads up that's what i was looking for

i dont know the background of scoot so only natural to ask, know what to prepare for

the cold cabin definitely is a heads up especially since they have 1.45am flights going from singapore back to sydney and it is an 8hr flight

        cheers

          Fair enough.
Cabin definitely can be cold but I find this is the case with any airline. Always bring a jacket and never wear shorts (unless you love the cold), regardless of airline!!

I think what others are saying about blankets is if you want even more warmth + because it's not free on Scoot.

But safety wise, I'd be more concerned about AirAsia than Scoot. Even then, I've flown AirAsia many times and wouldn't hesitate to fly them again either. I only say they're probably a little more susceptible than Scoot to being "not as safe" because they're based in a less stringent country (safety/rules wise - Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, India) and they have had an accident (AirAsia Indonesia).

Yeah man, I'll stress the coldness factor.

I was on a midnight flight back from Singapore to Sydney (flying back in June) also and had the window seat. I got on the plane wearing a T-shirt because it was tropical in Singapore and didn't think twice about how cold it'd be. Got on the plane and a few hours in I could just feel the cold waves hitting my arm from the side of the plane. Asked for a blanket but was told it's all sold out. Had to wrap a piece of newspaper around my arm a few times, but even that didn't help much lol.

Moral of the story: always have a jacket in your carry-on luggage! Don't try and "be a man" and get through it lol

        • @montorola: LOL a newspaper.
Did you have to pay for that too? $1 per page?

        • @illumination:

Hahaha, no thank god it was free! It was the local paper I picked up to read on the plane

  • I'll be going to Singapore in early Oct and was wondering if I can wait for Scoot's birthday sale to book my flight. Is it safe to assume they will be having a birthday sale during the first week of June, like they've done in the past few years? $70 off the return fare is quite a paltry discount.
