is their stuff ever not on sale anyway?

Correct - 40%-50% is really the "normal" price.

I don't buy until it's at 70% off which comes around every other month.

  • They use a model of pricing things at double what they should be and then always being on sale to convince people they're getting a bargain. Dbun is right and it's only usually a decent sale at 70%

  • thanks for the tips @Dbun1 and @Bargearse - signed up to the Newsletter and will keep an eye out for the 70% off sale - i need some new thermals for a NZ trip next year.

Sometimes they have 'staff and family' discount events which gave around 60% off jackets. Got one of these for about $210.

I must say though, the Kathmandu products I own have lasted a long long time. I have a goretex jacket from 10 years ago that still looks good and works well. A few other jackets 5-10 years old still going strong too

agree with this, quality wise they're really decent although you need to buy them at a high enough discount to not feel like you're being robbed. Their down jackets are proper warm and whilst their clothes/jacket design is subjective, I find them pretty decent as well.

  • True Kathmandu sale is just a gimmick - but there stuff is really good. Went to Europe last year with their thermals and Fleece jackets and they were really good.
The policy that I use is to wait for 1/3rd of the cost if you like the product. Anything above that is just plain scam. Anything below the 1/3rd price just buy it if you are in two minds about it as their quality is worth that price.
