  • Is Futu in the list of participating retailers for the cashback??

    • They're advertising it so they have to be, whether it's 1 of their alternate accounts on the list I'm not sure.

      • +1

we are talking about samsung $30 cash back not ebay 20%off

        • Oh, I must've misread

    • Wait, stupid me, Futu = Shopping Express, so yes they're on the list :)

      • I would be asking questions before making that assumption. Futu isn't listed on the Samsung T&Cs for the promotion: https://samsung.com.au/promotions/ssd/950-pro-cashback/Terms…

        • Any confirmation about this?

        • @Spackbace:

          Awesome thank you!

        • @Spackbace: So which store and which store location do we put in Samsung's cashback claim form?

        • @alvian:

I believe it should be Shopping Express. If you've purchased already, ask them the question, because I didn't respond beyond that email

        • @alvian:

          See discussion below

  • Awesome fast drive with the right connector - and a great price +1 OP!

  • Futu online is not on the list of Authorized Samsung Resellers (just because they sell Samsung does not mean they are Authorised)…. It they ARE part of Shopping Express will we get the $30 back though…

    • +1

They're part of SE, you'd get the cashback

  • Anyone able to advise on compatibility with an ASUS Maximus Hero VII 1150 Board? I believe it has the slot, unsure if it's going to take full use of it though. Would it also be bootable?

    • The the m.2 slot on that board (and most boards for that matter) only supports 10Gb/s, so no you wont be able to make full use it of unless you get a m.2 to PCIe adapter and plug it into your second pcie slot. If you do just plug into your m.2 slot you'll get still get 10Gb/s which is a lot better than the 6Gb/s that you'll get through a regular SATA3 SSD drive. But personally, I'd be getting an adapter ($10~$20) and hook the 950PRO to PCIe.

I am by no means an expert so correct me if i'm wrong please

      • Close enough… The only chipsets that support faster M.2 are the new H170/Z170 boards.

But suggesting a M.2 to PCIe adaptor isn't guaranteed to get max speed either - you'd have to make sure you have a spare PCIe 3.0 slot w/ 4+ lanes…. For that particular board, you'd have to use one of the GPU slots!

        • So you think it won't work at all? I'm of the belief it will work, just as above, not as fast?
Or are you suggesting the PCIE requirement. If I were to get it, it would be purely to mount on it's designated M.2 slot, I want to empty the case a bit….

        • +1

@scuderiarmani: Oh it'll work, and be pretty damned quick. It won't perform 100% though.

It's maximum speed is double the limit on your M.2 slot. But saying that, it's 10Gbs - not exactly sluggish!!!

        • @ryang:

Awesome thanks. I have a 240gb ROG Raidr on the board atm, need to see if I can justify it, I can get good money for that though, somewhat of a desirable item.

  • sorry for dumb question but why does this SSD look different than normal?

    • +2

Different form, these are much quicker than the more conventional type (and hence the general price tag!)

    • +2

      Look up m.2 NGFF.

You can add storage devices directly to the mainboard like you do with RAM.

  • Thanks op
    I'll grab this too…seeing it's cheap

Literally just pulled the trigger on the 950 512gb off shopping express, they have the $30 samsung cash back as well free shipping atm too

    • Housemate just bought the 512GB for a new PC =)

The 512GB is considerably faster too ;)

    • +1

Should I now point out the 512gb in my deal? ;)

  • +1

    Wow that's so cheap!
Too bad I don't have a M2 slot in my motherboard, and a PCI-E expansion card negates the cost.
edit: would this adapter work? https://www.ramcity.com.au/buy/lycom-m.2-pcie-ssd-to-pcie-3.…

  • +1

Samsung 850 Evo 1TB for $360 after discount too. Has it ever been cheaper delivered? I just pulled the trigger, nothing like impulse SSD buying.

  • Do I want this or a 500GB Samsung EVO M.2 for ~$200?

Obviously this is lower capacity but has faster read/write times. Worth it? It'll be paired with a 4TB Seagate 5400RPM storage drive; though I hope to keep my video games on the SSD (and they get larger by the day).

edit: I'm specifically after the M.2 form factor, I know the 2.5" 850 Evo is cheap today.

    • I'm in same position pretty much going for the M.2 drive, essentially it will store the OS of course along with Web Browsers and Program applications, then a few commonly played games like csgo, dota and gta5 if it will fit (doubt it).

Separate 4Tb drive for all media content.
Separate 2TB black drive for all other games.

I rather have the increase speed and less cable clutter.

    Any deals on the 512gb?

    • +2

Just spotted the 512, I swear it wasn't there before lol added to post :) $329.20 after c/b ($40 cheaper than SE)

  • Thanks mate…Just got the 512gb for the upcoming broadwell build….Great timing…Just need some good ram deal from Amazon now :)

I see Kogan has some MB and Ram…anyone take the risk and order from them?

edit: MB prices from Kogan work out more for one I looked at.

  • watch out for the t&Cs. I had my business name on the invoice from a previous order, samsung souldn't process the cashback

  • +1

What an impulse buy that was… haha

I asked Samsung if I would get the $30 back from Futu Online and they said:

"Thank you for the email. Purchases from Futu Online are not eligible for this promotion. If you purchase from Shopping Express you will be eligible for this promotion."

I then pointed out that Futu Online is just the ebay store for Shopping Express…. Awaiting a reply….

  • Samsung just came back with:

"Thank you for the email. Futu Online is not eligible for the cash back. Please see the below link for a full list of participating retail stores.

    https://samsung.com.au/promotions/ssd/950-pro-cashback/Terms…
    "

    • Right, have responded to Futu's original response, see if I can get an answer to this

      Hi, Samsung say otherwise:
"Thank you for the email. Purchases from Futu Online are not eligible for this promotion. If you purchase from Shopping Express you will be eligible for this promotion."
"Thank you for the email. Futu Online is not eligible for the cash back. Please see the below link for a full list of participating retail stores.

      What gives?

    • +3

Futu;s ABN is under our trade name of KS computers.
so when you apply it will be fine

      cheers
      Jay.

And K.S. is on that list :)

      • Decided to purchase the 512GB version. Thanks for the clarification on using KS Computers. Did FUTU calrify if the invoice that comes with the SSD be from KS Computers as the rebate as per T&C requires "Copy of your original tax invoice" to be attached to the claim?

        • Nope, thats all they said!

        • +1

The invoice is from KS Computers - purchased something else from them this morning and have received my invoice already. Letterhead on the invoice.

        • @get-innocuous: Thanks, that should work! I purchased this afternoon and only have the EBAY invoice at the moment.

        • @get-innocuous:

Purchased from the ebay store though?

        • +1

          @Godric: Yes

        • @get-innocuous: Is the invoice printed on paper, sent as an email, or attached in a PDF file?

        • @alvian: Emailed PDF, sent separately from the normal eBay emails.

        • @get-innocuous: How long did it take them to email you after you had bought the item? I bought this this morning and havent heard back from them yet with the invoice yet :|

        • +1

@Kossac: I got it attached to the shipping notification (I got two "dispatched" notifications - one from Futu and one from eBay). No doubt this has been a busy 24h for them and they and won't've had time to dispatch all their orders; worry not young grasshopper.

  • For those who need a M2 to PCI E adaptor, which are you getting and where are you buying it from?

  • Are there any reps for the company on OzBargain? I would love a deal on the Samsung 850 Pro 2TB SSD but unfortunately they don't list it on their eBay store.

  • Anyone know when this SSD will support Opal? It's been coming as a "firmware update" since Dec 2015.

TCG Opal Family Spec and eDrive(IEEE1667) to be supported by FW update

Got the drive today and completed the cashback offer…invoice says K.S Computer Technology.

    Thanks again.

Got my drive today, the website is telling me my S/N is invalid, the S/N on the box and on the module it self is the same 15 digit S/N, i'm emailing them for help :(

    • Mine worked fine…although wasn't sure if one was the letter O or the number 0.

Maybe that was the case with yours.

      • Excellent thought, I do have a sequence of "00" and tried each combination just to see like 0O, O0, OO, but it still was invalid.

I compared the digit to the letter O on "PRO" definitely looks like double zero's.

        Thanks though!

        • Hopefully they'll sort it out for you.

    • Hey mate, I had the same problem with these stooges and they told me the real S/N is on the product inside the box. (Would've helped to put that info on the damn site!) I haven't had time to look into it yet but hope that works for you.

      • The S/N on the box and on the actual drive is the same for me, so didn't help.
I just took photos of everything and sent it to their email hopefully they can just fill it in them selves lol

        • The serial number on the box is different to the serial number on the card itself.

The box serial number is 14 characters, the card serial number is 15 characters.

The Samsung cash-back form does mention this when you roll-over the ? in that field.

P.S: The first 14 characters are the same, the card serial number includes a final 15th character, which serves as a check-sum/identifier.
