Hey all - I got my renewal note from Allianz and decided to go back in as a new customer to see if I could get a better deal. I found this code, tried it out and it worked. Saved about $180 from my renewal (carefully checking my existing policy and the online one!) - Hope it helps.

And this is why it pays never to "just renew', bloody lazy tax.
How is it that the more loyal you are to a company the more you get taken advantage of?

    • +5

      capitalism?

    • +1

      I know - it's nuts!

    • +2

actually, in the last year or two, it's been cheaper for me to renew, unlike previously

just did a quote and it was over three times my current premium - both with allianz

is it just me or has insurance increased that significantly over the past few months?

      • It was like this for me 9 months ago too, I couldn't believe that clicking 'renew' was actually cheaper!

      • Have you changed address? Or the suburb being safer?

        • no, same details - renewed only a few months ago

    • Loyal is the new lazy.

      • +2

Complacency is the new lazy…. wait… it's the same old lazy!

    • It's not a tax.
It's their algo calculating the premium on the website.

    • Loyalty to electricity providers, telephone and internet is worse. At least vehicle owners get reminded every 12 months to check pricing.

  • Not a bad deal for someone that is under 25 and insurance is up the wazoo.

Just did a quote fro my 07 BF XR6, usually $1200+

    Just under $900.

    • Comprehensive or third party fire & theft?

If comprehensive its most likely market value and not agreed value

  • +1

    Also applies to Home/Contents.

    • Yep, jsut had a quick look then.

Seems like an okay offer. Anyone else got thoughts on Allianz as a company?

      • Had a claim with them last year for a car that hit a roo. Took 6 weeks.

EDIT: I should add that the car was located in regional NSW (town of pop 70k). Claims adjuster came from Sydney, that took a week, and most of the other time was him trying to find replacement parts so they didn't have to write the car off (was very much a "borderline write-off" claim).

      • Honestly, from product review, they don't seem like the best if you have to go through a claim. http://www.productreview.com.au/p/allianz-car-insurance.html

With that said, this is expected from most insurance companies, so as long as your premium is low, I see no reason not to go with Allianz. Although do shop around as even with this code, Allianz may not be the cheapest/most cost efficient option.

        • +8

Yeah product reviews for insurance companies are never great….

        • +5

@sqeeksqeek: for most service companies. People only get on their to bitch.

        • @Seaword: I agree, those forums are becoming useless now!

      • imo the best companies for car insurance or roadside assistance are racv and allianz :)

        • racq also quite good!

  • +3

Apply the code then go to Coles to pricebeat. Save even more. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/215420

    • ^ this.
I switched to Coles and saved over $600 on 2 cars. Dodo offered us a ridiculous deal at the time and Coles beat it and gave us the price beat guarantee ($50 off Dodo's price), and we had a discount code form flybuys for another $50 off per policy, and 10% off for online.

    • Wow I didnt even know Coles did car insurance - This is much cheaper!
Ive been using this rip off site http://prices.maa.nsw.gov.au/

      Thanks Buddy!

    • parrently coles is hell when you need to claim

  • I saved about the same amount as the OP by going with Bingle (underwritten by Suncorp)

    • +2

had to do a claim through Bingle 2 months ago. Car was in for assessment the next day, parts ordered the day after. one part was 2 weeks from landing in Aust unfortunately, but once it arrived car was back within a couple more days.

  • Dang, wont give me a quote online - "high performance vehicle" :(

    • They don't even have my car in their list..

Not the first time it's happened though (Japanese import).

    • expensive car bro, give em more moeny.

  • I got my third party insurance done for $260 at Bingle. Next cheapest was $450 or so, which was Allianz.

  • -7

21 yo planning to buy infiniti q50, comprehensive comes in at $4400 with $1000 excess. It's a disgrace how young people are treated by our insurance company. Effectively discourages insurance for people like me and result in more uninsured bomb on the street.

    • +5

the p plater norm is to buy a cheap car/3rd party and drive that till p's are over.

but surely for a $60k+ car @ 21yo, 4.4k shouldnt be too much for you?

        • +5

You have so much to learn mate.

        • +3

21yo, assuming you obtained your licence at 17 meaning you have 4yrs of driving experience. Do you see a difference comparing to a 51yo who may have 30yrs+ of driving experience?

        • +1

Correct. Less experienced drivers are a higher risk. Claims reflect this. Additionally, typically more risky drivers compared with middle-aged drivers. On another note, Allianz are decent as an insurer. Claims are generally paid acceptably. A note to all, avoid insurers that don't subscribe to the financial ombudsman service. Claims with them can leave you very upset and there's very little you can do about it.

        • +2

You are a high risk group for an insurance company. They are not charities unfortunately. So you will just have to suck it up. Alternatively buy a 50k Toyota and your premium will be much less. E.g. I just did a dummy quote for a 2016 Aurion Presara (not that I would buy it but it seems to be similar to Q50 in price) and the premium comes up at $2200.

If you want your parents to pay for a "Luxury" vehicle then man up and pay for the insurance. If you think insurance alone is expensive just wait till the running costs come in in addition to keeping your car on the road. Easily cost you 8k a year to keep Q50 on the road with servicing, petrol, insurance and registration costs.

    • +2

It's not a disgrace, it's maths. Insurance is statistical data + profit margin = premium.

      • -1

I agree. But using the age to determine the riskiness of a driver is in itself a flawed measure. They should come up with some other measures that are more accurate and specific rather than holding stereotypes and discriminate against all people that are under 25. I heard in the states if you have good grades on your report card/uni transcript you get discounts on the insurance premium. That's a good place to start.

        • more accidents happen with younger drivers?

you only think you are better than other drivers your age? its common for a P Plate driver to think they are a good driver, I'm sure every P plate driver thinks they are invincible.. hence the high accident rate!!!

        • Maybe they should consider how much driving experience you have instead?

        • +1

          @windrc:

Lost cause, he doesn't get it.

        • +1

haha, I aced high school and I was lunatic driver!

        • @windrc: Private drivers do not keep log books.

      • plus some bullshit tacked on top.

The crap part of the calculation is country residents have to wear increases due to city people crashing on country roads.

    • +2

Aami is a good company to put in a parents name as primary, then your name secondary so you are still covered. Worked out much cheaper for me on my old car.

    • +1

SGIO covers for any driver without even securing their name or details, so you could take policy on your parents name.

      • Are there any extra payments to make of claiming with certain drivers? I think they often add $500 or something if the driver is under a certain age or has less than X years driving experience.

        • No…. you only pay an additional excess amount (depending on the driver's age history etc) but only when you were in an accident and needed to claim.

        • @batrarobin:
So your answer is yes then.
You've just confirmed spaij's query by noting additional excesses payable on the basis of x,y,z..

        • +1

          @ankor: Yes correct.

        • @batrarobin: but, as you say, it is only an extra excess, not an extra premium. So in the case of parents insuring & letting the children drive, it would work out better if you don't have to claim (or claim rarely). So it is useful in some cases.

        • @spaij: Yes exactly my point, that is one of the best feature SGIO policy has.

    • Stats don't lie,
      http://www.tac.vic.gov.au/road-safety/learning-to-drive/youn…

Buy a cheap car (with airbags, if possible) and get third party cover and drive safe and save money :)

  • Does this coupon code/discount apply indefinitely?

    • +1

Has been running for at least 4 years. Only applies to new policies though.

  • currently with allianz… due in a months time…so thought i'd try a new quote with the code.

with the exact same options, ended up costing $80dollars more with the code… what gives…lol

  • +4

Gotta be careful if you have complementary roadside assist. Taking out a new policy will result in losing that. If you call and let an agent know however they will try to price match as well as retain your roadside. Personal experience, YMMV.

    • How do you get the roadside assist??

Allianz was heaps cheaper and also up for renewal, if its a case of calling them I will!

As a note, I got a renewal from AAMI for my house insurance, went up ~$22/mth to $95. Complained on Twitter and they dropped it to $84/mth. Never hurts to ask!

      • Roadside assist is something they offer after a year of no claims I believe. Not something you get off the bat.

  • +1

I'm getting "Please check the promotional code you have been given and re-enter. For assistance, call 131000". Anyone else getting that?

  • +1

    Code not working

  • Vehicle is modified and rejected by Allianz because it has aftermarket wheels. LOL.

I finished the quote anyway, and it was still 200 more than Bingle.

And with Bingle (who has been really great, someone hit me and they chased it up instantly and car was booked in for repair days later —paid nothing, car was back in no time. I was very fearful from reviews of Bingle)

    • I wonder it will be as smooth if you run into someone as literally if you hit someone they will need to pay out of their pocket. If someone hit you, they can recover lost from other person.

      • If I run into someone, then it's not my issue. Bingle will take my excess (1k), pay for their repair (not my issue anymore), then book my car in.

In order to pay for my repair they did put up 5k upfront to the repairer before receiving any money from the person who hit me.

And Bingle are unwritten by the Suncorp Group. So I couldn't see them not paying out. AND at the cost saved, and bad experience from NRMA (which charge double for the same policy), they are worth it 100x over.

        • Thats too early to tell as i was with aami which i think own by suncorp too and had bad experience as until now i still think it wasnt my fault but they said i was n took few months to have my money back. Am with nrma now so you have bad experience with them so they are all the same when it comes to claims. Cross finger will not have accident again. Thanks mate

        • @aladdin:

I was with a Aami before bingle and always had a great experience with them. Excellent price too. Bingle was just a bit lower.

I agree they are all the same, money grubbing corporate entities that always come out on top.

But bingle comes less than half the cost of nrma, allianz, budget direct and the big 4 banks. So I'd rather pay less.

Out of your interest my bad experience at NRMA, not at fault accident. They ended up imposing a 2500 special deductible on me. When I disputed it they told me bad luck. And I was under 25 at the time. So I was paying over 1k a year to insure a 10k car, that would've cost me over 4000 to claim on.

They never told me this either. Something fell off a back of a truck. Dented my car. NRMA said too bad. File a police report, but before they do anything to fix the car they need 4000 dollars.

        • @broy: how much excess you have? I thought highest for me is 2000 but i go with 800. I just checked my policy i have 800$ and if under 25 will need to add extra 1600$..so you have 2000$ excess with 1600$ excess on top as u were under age ao 3600 close to 4000. Make sense now..i was wonder to have higher excess on me but nah..should stay low as if i make claim i need to contribute more. Thanks for sharing.

        • @aladdin: It was a 1k excess, which wasn't high at all.

But with the under 25 (which I think was an extra $650). 2500 + 650 + 1000 = 4150. I believe it was quoted to be about 4k though, the guy at NRMA was shocked and said "for a dent? don't bother filing a police report, because if you do and we have to chase it up, we will require $4k upfront". Let's just say I wasn't happy with this response lol. Considering I was with NRMA for over 5 years.

The funny thing was, I had a fear that the 2500 SPECIAL excess would follow me to the next insurer. Nope. And since I was never at fault my insurance was cheaper with AAMI too.

I currently pay $800 with bingle and have lowest excess ($650) —with all legal modifications covered (wheels, suspension, exhaust, speakers, stereo, tint —good luck getting all of that covered by any company besides NRMA, Justcar, Aami and Bingle).

        • @broy: hmm..does not make sense for those excesses which i could not find on my policy. But 4000$ is ridiculous since u said u have 1000$ plus 1600$ which i can find on my policy still 2600..where 2500 650 and 1000 come from..anyway..good lesson always check fine print no matter who you with…i think since u said this way i better off go to nrma to find out exactly how much excess inhavebto pay as i do not like suprise. If hidden excess i might switch to Bingle. Thanks bro.

        • @aladdin:
The 2500 excess is a special excess which NRMA imposed on me for having a not at fault accident with them, and them not being able to recoup the cost from the person.

          You won't have it.

650 is age excess (under 25), and the 1000 was regular excess.

  • $180 , think you were lucky , I just did it and the price was exactly the same.I had actually just changed from Allianz to Racv 5 days ago due to the price rise so thought I would see if it came down as I still had my notes from all my new online quotes.

  • Haha. I got renewal from AAMI $480 but online as new customer hot $399

  • I've recently got a policy with Allianz (about a week). How does it work if I want to cancel that and want to get a new one with this discount? I'm on monthly premium.

    • Give them a call and tell them about it, they may apply the discount on your current policy.

    • You have 21 days cooling off period to decide if the insurance policy works for you. If you feel it is not the right one then you can cancel within 21 days and they must refund the premium you have paid within the cooling off period if you haven't made any claims. If you did claim anything you must pay the premium for the whole year.

  • Whether i enter the code or not i get the same quote?

  • Get them to price match Coles or Bingle, and then if they allow this 12% off code then I will think about it.

Allianz is known to be expensive

  • +2

I created a quote without using the code: $918, then with the code: $896.

Only about 2.5% off for me.

  • $302 with code ——- AAMI renewal $276

    ,.

  • +1

Had a saved Allianz Quote (car insurance due this month)
Retrieved it, applied code & quote reduced from $412 to $402 - so no 12% for me either .

  • Worked out to be more expensive than my current provider lol

  • $2400 for a Mazda 3. I'm still under 25 but that's $1100 more than I pay now.

  • Did something similar with AAMI - home/contents renewal came through, went on website and did a new quote - got $100 internet discount automatically.

  • $1291.95 reduced to $1261.45 with the code

    Saving of $30.5 (~2.36%)

  • would it apply to CTP?

  • Budget Direct car insurance renewal was coming up next month: $510/year (Was $488 - $100 visa giftcard = $388 when i signed up).

With this code: $399 (selecting $675 excess)

    With bingle: $388 ($600 excess)

Guess its not too great of a deal :-/

  • I pay $311 for full comprehensive with ~$2000 excess with AAMI. I'm happy with that, costs about the same as third party insurance anyway.

  • Okay tried the code with home insurance. Firstly without code: $1020. Used the previous button, entered the code: $1000. Excess was same each time.

  • does this work on CTP? i can't seem to find anywhere to put the code.

  • Aami came out to be $100 cheaper than Allianz even with the code. Wtf

  • Far out, I quoted my mazda3 and it came out way more than what I pay now with NRMA. No deal for me unfortunately.

  • +1

Be careful. You know all those American movies where the Insurance Company is the bad guys, where lies and illegal activity, pressure, abuse, threats, etc?

That is what you will enjoy from these guys.

    • Hardly..

We have a very robust system of internal dispute resolution within Australia, that goes right up to a FOS complaint..
It costs the insurance company money, time, and effort to deal with people so if you continually escalate, and there's a reasonable basis for said escalation, they will generally come to the table. It's about knowing what you want and negotiating for it with persistence.

  • Hmmm, so this deal is quite considerably cheaper than my current policy with AAMI.

    AAMI - $86.86pm
    Allianz quoted - $60.42pm

The difference is $100 higher excess on Allianz side ($750 vs. $650) and Allianz only offers a market value, rather than AAMI where I have a $7800 value (probably $2k more than my vehicle is worth according to Red Book).

Anyway, am I missing something here, or is market value really that much worse than fixed value? I'm not too phased about the extra $100 excess.

    EDIT: Tried Bingle.

Bingle quoted - $83.59pm ($695 excess, same fixed value as AAMI)
