I do wish you'd listen, Wymer. It's perfectly simple. If you're not getting your hair cut, you don't have to move your brother's clothes down to the lower peg. You simply collect his note before lunch, after you've done your scripture prep, when you've written your letter home, before rest, move your own clothes onto the lower peg, greet the visitors, and report to Mr. Viney that you've had your chit signed.

Did you just… just… pocket message all of us?

The promotion qualifying period is too long when compared with other health fund promotions, making this offer and Australian Unity health insurance offers generally, unattractive.

    • What do you think is the best deal atm? Currently with medibank and need to churn

Thank you. I’ll use this instead of my own recommendation! I didn’t neg you.

@soan papdi: No worries. Enjoy the promo.

HBF is my 4th fund this year.

I'm unconcerned by negs :) Usually from people who can't or won't read terms and conditions.

        • If I have had see-u in the last 12 months, does that count as HBF branded?

          • +1

@boretentsu: No — I asked them as I was also in the same situation. It's best that you confirm this for yourself and keep a record of your discussion.

            • @YesPleaseThankYou: Good thing I called. The guy said not eligible if you were with an affiliate like CUA which I was.

              • @boretentsu: Well, what you were told is inconsistent with the terms, which specify 'HBF branded policy'.

                • @YesPleaseThankYou: Dunno but based on the call, I think the neg on this deal is not fair if you've already taxed HBF whether directly or through another label like CUA or QLD territory.

Dunno but based on the call

Some random customer service person's opinion doesn't trump the terms and conditions.

I think the neg on this deal is not fair

I have outlined my reason for the neg — and it is a valid one.

                    taxed HBF

Taking advantage of a promotion is not 'taxing' the promoter — it is doing exactly what the promoter wants the consumer to do.

                  • @boretentsu: Further, you initially stated that you were with 'see-u' later also claiming 'CUA'.

Which one was it, or was it both, or neither?

                    • @YesPleaseThankYou: See-U. It was only a few months ago.

It was on your recommendation that I call and confirm. The customer service person is an agent of the company. It's a bit odd that you are happy to commit the agent's representation when it's to your benefit but when it's not to your benefit, it's a random opinion? If the T&Cs were really that clear cut you wouldn't need to advise me to call. Mind you, calling was the safe approach and the terms were vague enough to cover subsidiaries imo.

Taking advantage of a promotion is not 'taxing' the promoter

Use of taxing is a colloquialism like using a limited coupon.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for your passion for extracting value from PHIs or rather minimising their extraction from us, I still think the neg is harsh because not everyone is eligible.

                      • @boretentsu:

It was on your recommendation that I call and confirm

I recommend that you 'confirm'. I almost always do this via email. Then, even if it is 'some random customer service person's opinion' (to cite myself here), I have it in writing.

It's easy to forward an email to make a complaint. It's not so easy to forward a phone call.

See-U. It was only a few months ago

Same with mine. They confirmed, in writing, that I'm eligible for the current promo. I'd have little recourse if that statement was made to me over the phone (unless recorded, and thank goodness iPhones can now record calls).

You also mentioned CUA — how does this come into it?

I still think the neg is harsh because not everyone is eligible

The neg is because it takes too long to get the free weeks. 'Pay 1 month, get 6 weeks free' promotions are commonplace. With this in mind, the Australian Unity requirement to wait 60 days for the 6 weeks free is a strong negative. No-one should accept this shitty wait.

      • I was with Medibank and churned to Aussie unity a week back on this offer with Cashrewards on compare the market site for further $130 cashback.

        • It's not too late to move away.

          • @YesPleaseThankYou: i'd get my free 6 weeks + cashback then churn. The total cost averages out then.

            • @WhatsTheBigDeal: Staying for the minimum holding period for the 6 weeks free eligibility period + the 6 weeks free = 14.6 weeks. The free weeks component represents a 41% discount on the premium over the 14.6 weeks. Even then, according to the terms you won't get the free weeks immediately after the 60 days, resulting in you having to stay longer (and pay more).

There's no way you will get a better discount than if you had simply churned through 'pay 1 month, get 6 weeks free' offers (approximately 58% discount). I'd be happy to work out the exact numbers if you disclose your monthly premium (noting that precisely when you get the 6 weeks free is a big unknown).

Aggregators like CTM introduce additional complexity and delay into the process. The only time I would use an aggregator is if there was no other offer available. I have never used an aggregator because there's always an offer available direct from the insurers themselves.

  • Sorry to say but it looks very expensive to me. No benefit to getting 10 free weeks when it's nearly a $100 more a month plus a huge hospital extra charge before treatment for $750

    • +1

I wouldn't stay past the 6 week free period and so thought it was an alright deal but the consensus seems to be against this insurer.
