Would not recommend. LG G4's are dying left right and centre to a bootloop issue, including mine today. Now I have to spend over a month to send it away under warranty cause it's a grey import.
Avoid until LG can sort this issue out.

I'm on my 3rd G4. First bad touch screen, 2nd boot loop, 3rd bad screen too but not THAT bad I can be bothered sending it back again. I'm done with LG. Pity because it's an awesome phone

      • How old was your bootloop one? I heard it doesnt affect ones made this year. Is that true?

        • +2

I've heard of bootloops from people who bought in jan feb march 2016 ….

Great phone but hardware is wacky as hell

      • +1

Use LGUP to wipe your phone to V10f, you won't get screen issue or bootloop issue on this version. Screen issue goes back to the old Lollipop version and Bootloop issue can be caused by overheat in Marshmallow.

    • +1

I'm worried that because there was a hardware fault on some devices people are giving up when any sort of boot loop happens and blaming the hardware too soon. Have a look at this thread https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/235736

I'm not saying that hardware problems can't happen, but just try using LG UP to push 10f before you give up.

Major issues with latest g4 update and LG has ignored it.

This happened with G2 also, lg ruined it with the last update now ppl suffer from rapid battery drain.

Also note that this mobile was $350 just few months ago witg kogan deal

    • +2

Go back to lollipop and all the problems are fixed. I struggled with MM for ages, mostly because I wanted to be running the latest, but when I actually listed the real pluses it gave me, that was the only thing on the list. The minus list was endless.

Since upgrading to lollipop everything works so much better!

    • +1

Whoa I must missed the memo… there is an official MM update for Lg G2?

I haven't been receiving any OTA updates, so I just gave up waiting and about 2 months ago I just rooted my device and installed a custom ROM. IceX rom, based on the stock 5.1 ROM. Amazing so far.

Highly recommend it if you want to de-bloat the phone but still want to keep some of the LG features (like QuickRemote, Quick Memo and Qslide et cetera.)

    Be wary.

I absolutely love everything about this phone however I did have the boot loop issues which caused some headaches.

Great phone but may stuff itself.

  • +2

Also worth mentioning once again that it will be a TWN country code phone, with a locked bootloader and you will not be able to get root access in marshmallow.

+1 to the other warnings about this.

Got the bootloop of death while on holidays. Used the freezer trick to let it boot up for a couple of minutes to save the last couple of photos that weren't saved to the SD Card but still a major pain.

  • Wasn't the bootloop a serious issue for those manufactured before October 2015? I got mine off Kogan last month, the first one was used and the battery died. The second one is fine and lasts a good day with moderate use. I guess it is a gamble and it's your choice whether or not to take it. I would guess that they would be manufactured from March 2016 onwards as that is what mine is. Just speaking from experience.

Bought an LG G4 Oct last year (from qd_au) for the missus. Has been problem free and have not been tempted to perform any software updates.

    • I also bought from these guys during their Group Deal in August.

I've just returned mine with the dreaded Boot Loop issue.

      I guess it's hit and miss !

      • Same.. Returned mine last week to QD after finally getting it running for 1 min and enough time for me to lock the phone via google dashboard..
Died on me and didnt even have it locked so no way was i going to return my phone with them having access to all my data.
Have you received any updates from them? what is the usual turnaround time?
Wondering if i should wait or just buy another phone during ebays's 20% sale..

        • I received a message confirming they had received my phone and have sent it to LG.

Hopefully the turn around isn't too long!

        • @BensonP: no confirmation yet so will need to follow up.. Thanks mate

        • @BensonP:
I bought from qd_au as well in the August deal. Plz keep us posted on how good they are with the warranty.
I have don't have any issues with the phone even though I have been on MM as soon as it was available except the battery life actually got worst after the MM update.

  • As much as I love this phone I wouldn't recommend it. Back to oselle for bootloop issue. 3 weeks now and still no word.

  • +3

Not had any problems with mine got it mid 2015. Really like the phone actually

Dont risk it people! I got the LG G4 from kogan Ebay deal for $370 few months back and i love the phone but in hindsight i shouldnt have bought it because i keep worrying about the boot loop issue and the hassle involved to get it replaced/fixed. If it dies after a year i am not bothered as i would have got my money's worth.

Oedered laat nighr but can I cancel?

    • +4

Did you have a rough night last night?

      • Nah, he had weetbix and vodka for breakfast

        • First thing I did when I woke up! I'm addicted, thats for sure! So is bootloop fixed for new g4's?

  • +2

Why would you pay $400 for a bomb that you have to risk losing data, fighting for warranty and wothout phone for few weeks? The bootloop happens in all models, have a look online or whirlpool. The reason the newer models are not yet badly affected is because they are still new. Dont buy G4, hardware issue that even lg doesnt know how to fix

This thread is making me nervous (types from working G4)

  • LG are not doing regular security updates. My LG G3 hasn't had security update since November 2015. Also it is still on Android 5.0. It has never been tied to any network.

    • Check xda…last update was released last week with latest security updates.

My G4 is about 2 months old now…touchwood no issues thus far and absolutely loving it. Best phone owned.

    • +1

I got the phone from the ebay deal a couple of months ago and these are exactly my thoughts as well. But looking at the comments here I am worried about the boot loader issue though. My phone's manufacturing date is Feb 2016.

  • +1

Love this phone, awesome camera, removable battery, wireless charging, expandable memory but the bootloop issue had me send it back to TW to be fixed. It's been 3 weeks… I Recommend this phone but only if it does not bootloop.

  • +1

Wow that's a lot of broken g4s out there !

    • Worried G4 owner here too….. Eeek

  • Got one from last time's Kogan deal, died two months later, good phone though, lost all my data.
The boot loop will happen randomly and you will not have the chance to save your data.

  • -1

life is too short to be worried if a perfectly working G4 will bootloop :D

  • If I were one of you LG G4 owners whos phones are working perfectly fine, id be nervous. As with you, my phone was working immaculately for about 10 months up until this week, where out of nowhere it started to bootloop. Luckily, still under 12 month warranty. As much as I LOVED this phone and its amazing camera, im tentative to use another one again.

  • I really wanted to get the LG G4 and even recommended to a few colleagues at work to get it. Unfortunately one of them got the boot loop last week and now I feel guilty for recommending this phone. I think I will have to stay away from LG and stick with HTC (shitty camera but everything else is great, best music/sound quality).
