Word of caution to anyone thinking of getting a curved monitor for graphic design : straight lines do NOT look like straight lines on a curved monitor. Just like wierd and twisted

(profanity) can't believe I didn't even think of that thanks

    • How does this monitor compare with: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/231272447306?_trksid=p2055119.m14…

Its for ~$400 with the current 20% off promotion. 31.5" vs this deal of 34"

      • Resolution is 1920x1080 vs 3440x1440
        It also isn't ultrawide

I would hazard a guess to say the technology driving them would be the same or similar though

      • Yup, as drakarn says, only the resolution and physical size. Both have VA panels

  • Thanks for the heads up OP. I'm considering its smaller brother, the Samsung S29E790C 29" Ultra-wide Curved Screen LED Monitor 2560x1080 which works out to be $472. My current setup at home is an Asus 27" next to a Dell 24" (pretty sure both TN panels) so I'd probably take out the Dell and replace with the 29".

Just wondering if I'm upgrading if I should be looking at an IPS panel though rather than a VA one? Use is general plus some gaming. How does the Samsung compare to some of the other 29" models eg. LG 29UM65/UM68?

    • Fwiw, i watched this video before buying as i had the same question about colour accuracy.

      http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7ftsw8rnnf8

From what i understand, Linus tested the screen using a colour calibrator and it got a score of 99%? Please correct me if I'm wrong, someone

I have the LG 29UM55 and i love it for gaming, but i always hear of other people complaining. Mind you i play mostly just CSGO and Rocket League. I love the extra field of view.

      Hope this helps

    • Haven't used a Samsung ultrawide, but I use the entry level LG 29 non curved ultrawide (29UM58). Very good IPS display and the matte finish makes it good for reducing glare.

I took a look at this monitor at harvey norman on tuesday and this monitor has serious issue with colour shift when you are not sitting directly in front of the monitor

    • Fair point, but when would this not be the case?

I guess if you were showing someone else something, it'd be a problem…

      • It's something that bothered me when I was looking at the monitor but it might not bothers other people

        • My Samsung actually arrived today and I'm using it now (I didn't ask or pay for express!)

Having used one now I can see what you mean, as I am used to IPS screens

It's fine once I've settled in but moving around a bit does give the washed-out look as you've mentioned

        • @drakarn_123:

I bought this and moved from a WQHD 27" yamakasi (Korean) IPS screen.

I'm afraid I have to say, I'm supremely disappointed with it, the colour reproduction is just HORRIBLE, it's like having watercolour next to an IPS display. I paid $920, and am trying to resist the buyers remorse of instantly selling it on at a loss. Text is horrible, despite playing with "sharpness" and with "cleartype" the text has discolour and ghosting all around it, which I cannot believe for a monitor of this price and build. How can that happen? I've never seen such poor desktop image reproduction, the colours have clear gradients (a la 6-bit, even though it's supposed to be true 8-bit) - don't know what the deal is, and this persists even after turning off the "gaming" mode. Very sad… Not for anyone who loves colour to be colourful. I've asked Futu online what the restocking fee would be, if they'll take it back, because I cannot see me growing to like it.

Having said that, it doesn't seem to have any dead pixels and when OFF has a wow factor, the twin 1920x1440 mode is pretty nice too for having my work PC next to my home one on the same screen without multi screen mess about.

If you've got a decent video card, I could see it being ok for games, but if you're used to IPS I'd steer well clear, and with I had. Should have bought the LG IPS one….

        • @DisasterArea: Sorry to hear you're unhappy with your purchase :(. Is it odd to feel remorse for posting up a bargain?…

        • @drakarn_123:

Don't feel bad - I still feel it's a "good deal" but if you're used to a high quality of colour - this isn't the panel for you.
At least not without a lot of messing about and buying a spyderpro or something…

The Dell is $1550 - so for $920 it's still a great deal if gaming at 60hz is your thing.

I paid about $1500 when this first came out. Excellent monitor if you want a big screen. Superior over 2 x duals.

Tempted to buy another. Don't know what for though.

  • -2

I've been using a 120hz monitor for a few years now. Don't want to go back to 60hz

    • Good to know

  • Can anyone confirm CLICK20 works with 'Make Offer' ?

    • Can anyone confirm CLICK20 works with 'Make Offer' ?

      It's a PAYMENT DISCOUNT CODE.

So, it gives you a discount when you pay. It has nothing to do with how you make the purchase.
