980
CLICK20

Hi all

Just pulled the trigger on 3 AC split systems after cashback. I did a bit of research and MHI are very reliable, the Fujitsu is abit cheaper but i heard that they are not as reliable after 5 years but i already have a similar model at home and it never gave me any trouble, plus they have won afew awards for being best value A/C for last two years so quality must have improved. SO what i did, i bought both models and will install them next to each other in diff rooms and see which one is better and will come back to you after 5 years :)

*edit: I forgotten to mention the Cash Rewards cashback. Did not include the 1.25% in the calculations :P

The Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Air Conditioner $651.2 2.5kw cooling and 3.2 heating split systems. After 20% off CLICK20 & $100 cashback.
The Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Air Conditioner $1047.6 5kw cooling and 5.2 heating split systems. After 20% off CLICK20 & $150 cashback.

From what I've heard. Fujitsu are supposed to be a bit less serviceable than other brands. But there outdoor unit is really compact. I also find their heads to be less lairy and look less obtrusive in the house. Also they are quiet. I bought a couple of panasonics last year and I like them ok. But I can see why a more compact outdoor unit is attractive. I'm not sure if serviceability is a big deal anyway as if it fails after the 5 yr warranty you be better off just ripping out and replacing at these prices. One thing about the new ones I have is Panasonic's quiet mode has to be activated every time you turn it on. it dosent remember… which I find annoying. It would annoy me more in a bedroom install where you want to fumble around for the remote in the dark and just press the on button. Can't comment on mhi but I find the head unit style and bit dated and attention grabbing. We had a Mitsubishi electric in our last house in the bedroom and it was magic. So quiet like 18 dB… we kept accidentally leaving it on. But good guys don't sell those.

    • Does anybody know about the multiheaders units?
Some brands have one outdoor unit that can drive multiple (3-4?) indoor units. I know they exist but I cannot find reviews or advertised deals about them.

      • I got one of these. Bought from retravision few years back.

        • Hi starburstyellow
What brand is it? Are you happy with it? How much did it cost? Would you recommend it? Thank you.

        • @maxi: It was a Fujitsu. Still working to this day. Paid around $3500 I believe. had 4 units attached to 1 cooler 'thingie' in the back of the house. I would recommend it if you cant put in a ducted system or if your house is small. If your house is quite big, might cost abit with the hosing/piping etc.

        • +1

          @maxi:

I always thought having separate kits is cheaper to install, replace (i.e. one fails at a time) and more efficient to run. (The EER is always better the smaller the unit). I would have a good think about how many areas actually need a unit first. You can also pay a bit more for the install and put all the outdoor units along the side of the house that you dont use, even bracket them vertically.

        • @sillyhead:
Yes it is probably cheaper and more efficient just installing the normal 1 unit in to 1 unit out, but the outside units are so bulky and unsightly. Imagine having a row or a stack of 3 or 4 of them on the side of the house.
I guess the 1 in to 1 out are cheaper to buy just because they are the most popular, otherwise the 3 -4 in to 1 out should be cheaper (1 bigger outside unit should cost less than 3-4 smaller outside units)

    • compact outside unit isn't always a good thing. In the cold they freeze up very easy, which means a defrost cycle and in the hot weather, the downgrade the cooling output as the tiny heat exchanger can't keep up to demand.

Thats not the ops fault though. It was a good deal at the time of posting

Actually, what are you on about? The price hasn't been changed

      Mitsubishi 2.5kw - $939 - 20% ($188) - cashback ($100) = $651

      • Whose the bitchly coward who negged me?

Come back here, so that I may brain thee!

More negs! Whatever pricks doing this, be a man and fess up to the crime so I can put in the time.

          Gangnam style.

Guys be wary of the t&cs, on these, mitsubishis
Limit of 3 claimable per transaction, only one claim per household. Could mean you might run into trouble if you buy one now, and then another later and want to claim both.

  • Store Not mentioned anywhere.

  • Are you getting the installation done by TGGs?

What size room is the Fujitsu going into?

  • How much does installation normally cost?

    • About $500. This is for back to back installation only. Got it done by TGG last December in Melbourne’s South East.

      • Ac installs have dropped considerably in the last couple years. Its good

      • What's the procedure if you get TGG to install? Do you pick up ac then TGG installer turns up later? Or does installer bring ac when they are ready for job?

        • +2

The installer usually brings it with them if you purchased through a retailer including installation.

      • For how many rooms is that?

      • Did you pay TGG direct or the installer for the air condition installation ?

  • I bought the SRK71ZMA-S from bunnings last time they had this cash back deal.

They have it for $1631 whilst other places have it for $1590 (example below).

With bunnings 10% price beat plus the $150 cash back, unit comes to $1281.

Really good price for the bigger unit.

  • I've got two Mitsubishi Heavy Industry Air cons (a 2.5kw cooling/3.2kw heating and 3.5kw cooling and 4.2kw heating) which were installed in 2010. Still going strong 6 years later!

    • What size are u rooms? Thinking about getting it did a 40sqm room. 3.5kw
      Thanks

      • Like a 5x8m room? You will want more than 3.5 kw. A 5kw system will be more suitable and add more kw for tropics.

      • The 3.5kw powers my daughters side of the house. It is installed in the activity room which is just under 20m2. It then flows through to my daughters room which is 16m2. The other rooms have their doors shut but we've had it going whilst family were visiting with another 16m2 bedroom door open. It cools perfectly. This is in Brisbane's summer too.

For a 40m2, 3.5kw would be sufficient unless you live somewhere extremely hot or you cannot adequately close off your lounge room.

We have the 2.5kw in our bedroom which is 24m2. Again, it works perfectly and can turn it into an ice box, even in summer.

    • we've got a few Bitsubishis. We had an issue with one, but the previous owner bought it, so no receipt. Called up Mitsubshi who said they can see that it was in their warehouse 6yrs before, so they'll fix it under warranty (has 7yrs). So can't be happier.

I've got a mate who installs Kelvinators & said the Mitsubishi's are a class above the most of the others (Kelvinator, Fujitsu, LG, etc) in built quality (the housing & motor).

  • Yeah this Summer is our first with a 6kW Mitsubishi Electric split and not only was it got dam beautiful when used and it was used a lot, it was quiet as well. We used it more than the previous due to the longer summer we had in FNQ and still managed to get under the electricity bill by a long shot for the same period of the old AC. Will be buying again if needed. Love it.

    • Mitsubishi Electric is a different company to MHI…..

      • Well the head unit says Mitsubishi Electric, the compressor and condensor/fan says MHI on the Spec's sticker.

        • Not sure what you have going on there…. Do you have more than one unit?

They are TWO different companies…. who happen to both sell AC units.

Both sell great units etc, but you can't mix and match them.

  • Not sure if this question is appropriate here. What if you buy from Goodguys with installations, they come and find out your power board cant support?

I think an electrician said that we need to increase the power by upgrading our powerboard which will cost about $2k…

    • What size unit was that for?

      • +1

We were enquiring about 2 x 2.5-3.5kW air conditioners, at that time.

My understanding is that he thinks it is not enough power, so we need to organise the council/electricity company to come upgrade higher voltage from power exchange to our power box.

        • that doesn't make much sense. you might need your fusebox upgraded? (that's something a sparkie usually does). Power wholesalers generally only manage the line up to the meter. Where are you?

        • the house is about 70yo lollll

  • Online reviews of anything are the bane of my life. You are none the wiser after reading them

People, people: make up your minds- is it the worst product ever built or the best?

    http://www.productreview.com.au/p/fujitsu-astg09kmca.html

    • +1

Unfortunately I find many people will tend to review with their emotions and they tend to be one extreme or the other. Maybe they got a faulty one to start with so therefore the product is rubbish. Or they may have used a product for 5 mins and decide its fantastic and give it 5 stars without having truly used it. Just have to see if you can find if there are common issues mentioned by the reviewers I suppose.

      • +1

yes and I strongly suspect the marketing departments (from both the company & rivals) actively post reviews.

My fav recent product review when I was research corded vaccies, was someone complaining about the noise and how it disturb his neighbours in the units beside & below when he was vaccying at midnight. Some people's expectations are a tad out of kilter with reality :-)

  • All I need now is to buy a house

    • got your priority right!

  • +1 for commitment - 5 years eh? :)

  • I don't see where the $569 comes from for the Fujitsu ($150 cash back only) or where the $651 comes from for the Mitsubishi ($100 cash back only).
The ebay prices are $899 for the Fujitsu and $939 for the Mitsubishi.

    • 899 - 20% - 150 = 569.20.

      Not counting cashrewards 1.25%

  • Mitsubishi still shows in stock for me, but I can't see the model number in the cashback model list. What am I missing?

    • the SET in the model number on TGG site is at the end on the MHIAA website. :)

  • Tempted. I have an old split system ( 10+ yrs old) at home. Should I get it replaced? Any idea for the replacement cost?

  • +1

Are these as efficient as they claim? Or are they up to 10% out?

  • Hey guys..any idea how much it costs for installation? We need 2 x inverter split systems..should we buy through tgg or go through contractors like frost/blue star or online store like appliancecentral. Thanks

    • Totally depends on…

      1. Distance between cooling unit and power box
      2. Distance between inside unit and outside unit
      3. Do you want it in the ground or on the wall
      4. If it on level 1 or 2, or higher of the ground.

Generally depending on the above, prices start at $450 to $1100+.

  • I got the Fujitsu installed for $400 back to back. That's south side brisbane, so might vary by location. I've got two of the Fujitsus. Also got a big mitsubishi heavy unit. Very happy with all of them so far.

    • Wow, who did that for you?????
That is extremely cheap if it included electrical.

      • Just a bloke I found through seeviceseeking.com.au. He's put in 3 for me now and I'm happy to recommend him. He installed the mitsubishi heavy 7.1 including electrical for $500. Pm me if you would like details.

        • in Melbourne?

        • @Jamesx: Melbourne is kinda "south" of Brisbane, but I think he meant it to be a bit closer when he said south side brisbane? :)

  • Anyone has some recommendation for installers in Sydney?
bought it from the last deal, still not installed. :(

    • +1

      http://www.tempcoolservice.com/

Excellent service. Very professional and great price. Also they turn up on time.

      • Used them based on the recommendation and he did an excellent job at a great price. Thanks for suggesting it.

        • No problem happy to help.

  • Unable to click and collect from WA and delivery is $50.14
Cheapest i can get is 619.34 (excludes cashrewards 1.25%)

    899 - 20% - 150 = 569.20. + 50.14 = 619.34 (Fujitsu)

    • Mitsubishi, the manufacturer of 'quality' such as the Sigma/Magna and Colt cars. Say no more.

      • Different divisions. I know the Sigma was made locally here, I assume the Magna as well. That could be an issue. Not sure if the aircons would be made locally. Probably designed in Japan, and assembled in China like everything else.

Hah! First time my post gets more than 10 upvotes…getting the hang of this :)

There is currently two Mitsubishi promos, one is for Mitshu Electric and one is for MHI…i have linked the correct cashback promo in the post.
It took me an hr of looking around for the MHI promo with the product ID matching once u click on it.

    • thanks for the hard work. made my research easier. cheers.

  • I have a very tricky question. We have evaporating cooling DUCTED system at home, is it easy to just install ducted air conditioning has heat/cool function and 4 zones using the existing ducted system?. Or I have to make a new ducted one?

  • Anyone know the difference between the dxk models on tgg ebay site and the srk models sold at bunnings?
Is one series older than the other etc

  • +1

I always think you're better off buying from an air conditioning company that sells and installs them; I got mine from Frost air conditioning at Castle Hill and they also recommend Mitsubishi heavy industries air conditiones

    • Was it cheaper through frost?

      • It's fully installed by them so hard to compare but otherwise they take care of everything

  • Thanks for posting, was eyeing it last time and had to pull the trigger now. Bought it for my 20sqm and it should do a nice job dehumidifying moisture from en-suite too.

Any possibility of fitting the compressor in a car boot if I need to pick up?

    • To answer my own question the compressor will fit in a Mitsubishi Lancer.

  • Any recommendations for reliable cheap installers for Melbourne Eastern suburbs. I have only got quotes $650+ for back to back (few years ago) without site inspection.

    • You're lucky to get a quote back. I'm still waiting to hear back, or I get knocked back saying they only install what they supply. :(

  • How does the heating go on these? We're in Launceston so wouldn't be using them for cooling very much.

    • Great. It is the primary reason why we bought them.

  • I did a bit of research and MHI are very reliable, the Fujitsu is abit cheaper but i heard that they are not as reliable after 5 years

    Source?

    • There are stacks of whirlpool pages talking about it.

My a/c installer always recommends MHI over Fujistu, like i said, i have one myself and i am pretty happy with it. Too bad the remote doesn't have LED screen so u cant see at night LOL.

  • +1

Did you consider/compare Panasonic units? Bought a few myself during the previous 20% off sale. The CS-CU-Z9RKR for example is currently $899, so $619.20 after discount.

Mine was $885 at the time; on top of cashrewards and Peaksmart, managed to save a bit more by claiming on TGG's pay less guarantee as HN had theirs for $849 at the time, so got another $43.20 back (120% of the difference). Did the same thing on a 7kW unit for an extra $168 saving.

  • "Standard" install (back to back wall < 3m and available circuit breaker in meter box) is $650 from most GG stores in melb I checked with. Yes can probably be found cheaper but consider the warranty - if it's not done right the installer will blame the unit, or the retailer the installer if something goes wrong. For $100~ difference not worth it in my opinion.

  • Also found this slightly cheaper in Melb & SA - NCG Air Conditioning (4 locations, google them) are advertising the Fujitsu for $499 after cash back so $649 upfront, BUT is conditional upon their installation which is $680 for standard install, and they need to quote onsite.

    • Is it chinese own? I see Chinese language in promotion page

      • Not sure, could be?

        • have you got them install your A/C

  • Do these "standard" installations include isolator switches on the outdoor unit? I've decided against buying one of these- La Nina cool summer coming so it's not urgent- but I've been reading up and isolator switches, not hard wiring to the switchboard, are the go.

  • How does the MHI units compared to Panasonic?

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Panasonic-CS-CU-Z9RKR-C2-5kW-…

    • Yeah how do these units compare to the Panasonics? The Panasonics seem cheaper.
