  • Hi, can someone recommend a hard drive for Macbook Air? Thanks!

    • +2

I'd personally recommend a Western Digital with my experiences with portable hardrives. They do make some specifically for mac, but I have been using a WD portable hardrive very similar to this on my mac without any issues. I just ordered two more very similar to this with the 20% off selected retailers on eBay. Hope this helps!

    • this one. Elements is a good drive with no extra software firmware that you don't need.
my son has been using one for years with his Air.(I think his is only 500GB not 1TB

I use this with a MacBook Air, but from memory you need to reformat it to FAT before you start using it.

I had the one made specifically for Mac but it stopped working properly, but honestly, I think all of these hard drives die eventually. I've yet to have one that hasn't gotten glitchy over time, and therefore stopped using it out of caution of losing my data.

you can format it to suit your needs.

        NTFS

        Read: Mac + Win
        Write: Win

        OS X Extended

        Read: Mac
        Write: Mac

        FAT

        Read: Mac + Win
        Write: Mac + Win
        4GB limit per file

I format mine to exFAT since it's an updated version of FAT32. You can transfer over 4GB with exFAT. So for anyone wanting to use a portable hardrive for mac, use exFAT if you want to be able to use it on Windows and Mac.

    • Thank you so much, guys! God bless!

Same price at Good Guys and comparative to other brands at normal price, not really a deal.

Sure but I think that B&M is better, if B&M and Online store is same price, Id go for B&M

      • Futu is $2 cheaper though

        • +1

Yes, and I respect your opinion, however for convenience and warranty, I prefer B&M

        • @Bearosaurus:

I'm just simply stating that it's $2 cheaper at futu for anyone interested, that's not an opinion lol

        • @Bearosaurus: Mine was in the display cabinet at Australia Post.

You can pay $1 more to get the WD Passport Ultra in red at Futu online on eBay (20% off). I believe it comes with some extra software and in my opinion looks more aesthetically pleasing lol
