Then go get one. It's currently $799 down from $1199. The salesman wouldn't drop the price when I bought mine last week, but they did throw in an extra 2year warranty.

I also used the AMEX deal on two different cards to get $100 back.

Otherwise grab one off Amazon.de for just over $600

      • interesting. comes up as $650 on amazon.de

Not price error, this is real discount. Good discount but I'm broke

This is a discontinued model I think so this should almost become the new rrp. Still a good price though.

Edit: Here's the link to all the av receivers on sale at half price at HN: http://www.harveynorman.com.au/tv-blu-ray-home-theatre/home-…

For $599 there's also this Yamaha model: http://www.harveynorman.com.au/tv-blu-ray-home-theatre/home-…

I have the 479 and it is a good avr. It is discontinued (481 new model) but from what I can see there is little difference between the two.

For that price there is not much that gives the same features. Mine has been perfect with ARC, networking and controlling my various devices, as well as working with a logitech 650 remote.

  • Anyone know if it would be possible to connect an external headphone amp to this receiver?

    From here,
    http://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-receiver/
    says

    """
The Yamaha RX-V479 scored very well on our objective tests, placing first or second in all the testing we did. It is only five channels instead of seven, has a single HDCP 2.2 input instead of multiple, and has no support for Dolby Atmos or DTS:X. Last year this would have been a top pick, but everything else this year offers more features for the same price
    """

  • I need something like this with component in & out as well. I have too much legacy gear with component out.

If it had two HDMI out I would've been sold.

Thanks OP, ordered one for the ex to go with the Boston Acoustics A 250 Floorstanding Speaker Pair https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/250901. Combined it with the AMEX $50 credit https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/246022. I love Ozbargain :)

    • My pocket hates ozb…

Good deal - was looking at this model a few weeks ago but needed two HDMI outs. Ended up getting a Sony 1060 for $571 after Sony had 45% off discount and Ebay another 20%.

  • Why bother with 7 channel ATMOS? It is effectively simulated 7.1 as it sacrifices dedicated channels in order to flog low end gear with the high end Dolby atmos branding…

  • I was on the fence about getting this but now they're out of stock :(

    • Thee ol if in doubt, go without.

    • I got this instead cause i only had a $1000 audio budget.

      • Thanks, I already have good speakers, I just wanted to get a receiver with HDMI. I've always bought top of the range Yamaha but I'm downgrading this time since I don't have room for full 7.1 or atmos in my new place. Just wanted 5.1 simulated with the surrounds on the front. I don't need a new receiver so I can wait for the next sale :)
