230

Razor blade sharpener that really works. If you know how to use it you can get a good shave out of a really cheap blades or you can prolong the life of the quality ones. This is a silicone rubber based tipe that is not sanding your blade's edge but just aligning it as the old day's blade strop.

    Wonder if these work ?

Sorry for the skepticism, but If it really 'worked' (Practical, Easy, Affective etc) why is it reduced so much?

      • Possibly because our society is leaning it's preference towards throw away products.

Given you'd only be able to strop one side of a cartridge blade it'll never bring it back to brand new but would definitively prolong the life. With the price of cartridges, even if you only got one extra shave per cartridge this would pay itself off in no time…at full price. DE blades are so cheap they probably wouldn't be worth the effort…unless you're OCD

Reduced price and lack of effectiveness are often not related.

Stores regularly dump perfectly good stock - because it was a seasonal or promotional line, too few in stock to warrant keeping - consuming valuable resources like shelf space, or simply not selling well.

I don't even think of Target when buying shaving gear.

      • Think of it as a stropper. To call it a sharpener is not the best way to describe it. We have lost the concept of maintaining the sharness of a blade by swtropping it after every shave.

Might as well ask why there's such a site as OzBargain. If you were a real skeptic you would google instead of voicing scorn for cheapness. http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2193356

The answer is yes, they extend the life of the razor, but probably work by cleaning the blade, an action called stropping, which could also be done with a dozen strokes over denim.

Or you can just use your arm

Yes they do work but you have to develop your skill. You can always return it back.

  • I have a shaver pit razor sharpener which works, I haven't changed my shaver in over a year, not sure about this one

    • Razorpit sharpener sells about the same price as this one at Amazon.

if this is true, can you hurry up and buy a Oppo R7plus phone, coz I'd like the price to go down a little more before I buy one!

  • When I go shopping I'll try find one and test out. Would be a great money saver

Yes it does work , but only by ensuring that the tips of the blades are very clean. It is by avoiding gunk on the tips that the blades stay sharp until the natural usage finally dulls the edge. It should be described as extending the life of the razor rather than as a sharpener.

Use an old pair of jeans as a strop, it's the same principle as the leather strap your old barber used to have. Just aligns the burrs on the tip of the blade. Or just get a De razor. 50 bucks will get you like 1000 shaves

  • Or, you could just use an old pair of jeans…

  • I bought one a while ago and it does work. I managed to extend the life of a Gillette fusion blade by an extra month.

  • Thanks OP, managed to get one.
