  • Best option for those currently not on Optus for EPL?

    • +1

Optus have a $30 mobile phone plan where you get unlimited calls and 1.5GB of data.

      • 27$ if ur a student

        • How do u get 10% off??

          @Lucky13:

          Here are the links:

          home page: http://www.optus.com.au/student-hub/

          mobile sim: http://offer.optus.com.au/student-hub/student-phone-plans/?s…

You need to have a valid uni/institution email address to register

        • @ahly92: Thanks for that. Im already on a plan with them, but maybe when I renew I can get 10% off. Thanks heaps :)

        • Tried that and they told me I don't get discount on mobile broadband plans

In the end i went with the $40 10gb voice / data plan which worked out $36 and i can use it in a phone as well as a tablet and also give sim to family when they come to visit

    • +1

There's also a $30 mobile broadband plan (4GB) that is month-to-month. And the $30 phone plan mentioned above which is a 12-month contract.

I've no idea why exactly you are told it can't be used in your phone but I'd still assume you probably can use it in your phone by manually set a different APN. I have been using Optus mobile broadband sim cards in my android phones and iphones for a couple of years, though the optus reps did tell me the sim cards can only be used in tablets/dongles. After you get your sim card I'd suggest you give it a try changing the default APN "yesinternet" to "connect" (without colon).

    • I had to do that for my data sharing SIMs on my S4, iPhone, iPad (needed to get a new ipcc for it) and other devices i use…

    • Ah cheers, didn't realise this was an option. Will give it a try. Is APN name the only setting to be changed?

      • Should be, but the APN settings contain multiple attributes. A few of these may need to be updated.

      • Yes in my experience. What I only did was changed the APN name and then I got my androids and iphones online.

    • I've no idea why exactly you are told it can't be used in your phone but I'd still assume you probably can use it in your phone by manually set a different APN.

If Optus was serious, they'd bar mobile phones via IMEI ranges - if you pop a Telstra $5 data sharing SIM in a mobile phone, you'll instantly get an SMS saying it can't be used in phones - regardless of APN

      • I'm not going to let a SMS stop me…?

  • +3

Checked with Optus- can't use this sim in a mobile phone and use for tethering (my intended use).

Can confirm the last $35 10GB offer worked in mobiles for tethering. No reason why this wouldn't, just ensure correct APN is used…

      • +10

        Pfft

      • They will never catch you. It's too much work for them to identify which customer does what. Besides, iPad and IPhone is basically the same besides the model number and one cannot make calls. Hehe

        • -5

Yup, true enough but that doesn't make what I said not true so not sure why I got downvoted so heavily.

        • ….mmmm, thats what I thought…. I got banned from Vodafone for using the wrong device, the guy at VF told me they recognised my device through the IMEI.

      • +3

Action taken against you? Fines? LOL. You are joking.

The only 'action' they could take is to cancel your account. They have no legal right to fine you.

        • -8

Cancelling your account would incur fines no? Otherwise people would just get their accounts cancelled to exit contracts.

        • +2

@Synk: maybe you should look up what a fine is

        • +3

          @Synk:

Don't know why everyone is down voting you. I heard Optus outsource their fines department to the Nigerian email team

        • +1

          @Synk:

          It's a month-to-month contract…

      • +2

It'd cost optus thousands to take you to court (they wouldn't bother). If they did (stupidly), they'd lose the case due to a few diffent things.

        • According to my bill for Optus' $60 mobile plan, 10GB of data is $35 anyway - the rest is for calls. Due to this they can't really request you pay more. (Note I get $20 back off my bill - it's the $40 plan. $35+25 is the actual usual prices though)

        • If your mobile was the only way to access the mobile broadband then their service isn't fit for purpose - you'd have consumer law to cover your ass.

        • legal factors of releasing details that prove you were using a mobile. I'm quite sure there would be privacy factors there.. They'd struggle to find evidence they can use.

Beyond all that, there's the fact optus profits still. I'm getting unlimited calls+SMS AND 10GB of data for $36 ($40+10% student discount) and I'd assume they still profit.

  • Does streaming EPL count towards data limit?

    • +3

      No.

  • +1

If your home internet is with Optus, do you receive $10 off to make it $25 a month? Thanks

    • I could be wrong but didn't they remove the $10 off mobile plans bundled and reduce the price of the home braodband if you have an eligible mobile instead? The $10 off was also only on one plan.

So for me I have NBN and 2 mobiles, purchased this in the last offer but only get $10 off my plan, not the misus phone or this.

  • +1

anyone know "how" you can watch EPL with this deal ? are you restricted to only watching on your phone or can you watch on a PC ?

    • I heard they are releasing a mini set top box as well as supporting fetch TV.

    • +1

When you sign up to this deal, you can get a Optus EPL login. You can use that login on any phone, PC, tablet or ISP to watch the EPL.

If you watch it on your PC, you can use a HDMI cable to connect it to your big TV.

Optus will be offering apps so you can watch it on your TV and also a box (Fetch TV Mighty, Fetch TV mini and regular Fetch TV) if you want a dedicated box to watch the EPL.

      • What about data charges?

      • +1

If you're with Optus then the EPL matches will not be counted against your monthly quota.

      • Are you sure about watching EPL on the PC? or is it just android/IOS. I hope they don't block it like foxtel.

  • Sorry noob question… So can I cancel after one month and continue to get access to EPL?

    • Assuming the login still works, as long as you have data to burn?

    • It's unlikely that your EPL login will continue to work after you cancel your Optus account. They would probably have some automated system that will cancel your EPL login as well.

    • It is connected to your plan/phone number, so VERY unlikely. The same way that optus perks stops working.

  • -6

I have this same deal with unlimited calls for $30.

  • +1

Can confirm the 10GB goes into your "Data Pool" of which can be used by any device on your account.

I bought the SIM card and just threw it in a drawer when it arrived. Cheap way to get an additional 10GB per month on my iPhone.

    • Does the data pooling begin from when you complete the order or when you "activate" the SIM card? I am looking to do the same as you, and I figured it would only activate the data once the SIM was active, but does it just add it to your data pool as soon as you complete the order?

      • +1

It was added onto my account as soon as I competed my order.

  • Does the Data pool work with pre-paid?

Like This plan and 40$ pre-paid plan?

    • +1

No data pooling on prepaid plans. Only post paid plans on the same account.

  • can i use this to add it to my mobile plan and get an extra 10gb on my phone? that whole sim sharing thing…. ?

    • As long as you are postpaid you add it to the same account and can data pool.

  • +1

I'm starting to notice the saturation on their network. I am very close to a tower and have full 4G coverage and YouTube videos buffer.

    • Same here.

  • +1

Yes you can add this to your current mobile plan. Me and the missus keep going over our 2.5gig a month. So I joined both our accounts together then added this $35 for 10 gig so we data pool 15 gig together now. Also comes with a sim so u can use between your phone and iPad for expample at the same time

  • +1

Credit check galore may ruin your chances for other credit application as this will count against you.

  • Can you add the Fetch TV mini for an extra $5 a month on this?

    • I can't see why not.

Optus have a $30 sim-only plan (unlimited calls + 1.5GB data) and you can pay an extra $5 for the Fetch TV mini.
      https://offer.optus.com.au/epl

      • Yeah I saw that, but didn't see it on the mobile broadband page?

  • When is this deal expiring? Thanks.

    • +1

The Premier League subscription deal expires 31st July, so assuming then..

      • Hoping! I plan to jump in Sept!

  • So, Let me clarify as Optus cant?!

I can purchase the above Optus Huawei E5573 Pocket WiFi Modem $24.50 @ Coles (22nd-28th June)
and then purchase this sim only offer, put sim into device, Enjoy Wifi?
I literally only need this for a week, so i would be going for the month to month option

can someone please explain the process?
Does the Pocket come with a sim? can i just call up and have this put on the Sim only offer?
Do i need to pay a connection/disconnection fee?

Thanks, But Optus were hopeless last night!!

    • +1

The pocket wifi modem comes with its own sim and 4GB data (if you just need it for a week). Once you run out of 4GB & need more, simply replace the original sim with this $35 month to month sim & continue enjoying wifi. There are no connection or disconnection fees.

      • Cheers, 4 phones calls last night with 4 different explanations, Didn't really make me want to join up.
Im just stuck waiting for NBNco and I NEED to rebuild my gaming rig ASAP, I will need about 15gb or data, So this will work just perfectly

Will wander over to Optus store now and see what they can do for me

        Thanks a heap!!
