See Avatar in 3D at Event Cinemas for $12 (+ $1 if Booked Online, + $1 if 3D Glasses Required)

251

For those who haven't seen Avatar in 3D yet or are looking to catch it one last time, Event Cinemas currently have a 'last chance' offer for Avatar in 3D at the reduced price of $12.00 per ticket (add another $1.00 per ticket in booking fees if purchased online and another $1.00 per pair of 3D glasses required).

I saw this for the first time this afternoon (yes, I know this movie has been out for yonks :P) and it was well worth the watch, especially given that a normal ticket costs $19.00 at the box office (from the mainstream cinema chains in Sydney/NSW anyway).

If interested, you've got until the end of Wednesday (12.05.2010) before Avatar finishes its run at Event Cinemas. Enjoy!

Edit: Fixed dodgy grammar

Update
I just noticed that Castle Hill Megaplex (NSW) and Indooroopilly Megaplex (QLD) have sessions up to and including Sunday 16.05.2010 (and perhaps beyond). Just thought I'd mention this for the benefit of those who live in or near those areas.

i just watched this for the 2nd time on dvd at home (obviously in 2d)

and my gosh its not that great the 2nd time….

    • Yep.

It was also better in 3d. 2d is like a cartoon :|

      • I watched it in 3d..it was crap. there were many times I wished that i'd gone to the 2d session instead. the 3d technology theatres are using are just not upto fast motion. Whenever there was some action packed scene it was all a jumbled blurry low frame rate mess.

  • +5

You can also watch it at IMAX for half price with their 2 for 1 offer when you sign up for their regular email updates. That's about 13.50 a ticket.
    http://imax.com.au/home/
Me and my friends signed up for it and got them half price. Only need one person to sign up to get 2 tickets.

  • Crap.. the missus and I finally went to see it last week.
The 3D was great, but once was enough. Great deal though.

    • +3

      The missus was great…
…wait, where am I going with this?

  • Well seen it twice in 2D, apparently it's great in 3D so going to see it Wednesday with my partner :)

Good thing they take paypal for online bookings, that is definately also a plus :)

  • I haven't seen it yet. Might see it this week… $12 a ticket is pretty cheap.

  • +2

Just FYI. Its going to be re-released on the cinemas with extra footage (6mins) in August.

    • +1

WTH? you serious.. They are really milking this movie….

      • -1

Well, if it cost them 1 billion or something to make, damn right they're going to milk every cent lol.

Btw, this isn't a bargain for QLD, our movie tickets are usually around that price anyway especially if you go to the IMAX theatre, which is like $10 for 3D movies including glasses…

        • Yeah it cost me $12.

        • +3

~1/4 billion… but still high on movie standards. Tron Legacy will be like 300-400M as well i think? (That's like over $40,000 a SECOND O.o assuming about 2hrs)

    • -1

could we pay like a dollar to go view that 6 minutes? :P

    • It was to do with mainly how the cinemas didn't have enough 3D projectors to go round, and basically the Avatar slot was up and had to make room for Alice in Wonderland. They were still getting decent cash for each viewing.

Then you have the whole Alice in Wonderland being released early on DVD/BR than normal movies and the Cinemas planning to boycott because of the lack of sales.

The Extra 6mins footage is just and extra hook. I'm assuming that this release will eventually make it to DVD/BR maybe with even more footage. Directors Cut or something or rather. Haven't you heard the movie business is not making money due to pirates…….supposdly.

Thats what it costs me to go to the movies anyway so I don't think its really a deal or anything…at least not for me here in Brisbane. I will grant it that it's a convenience to those who haven't seen it yet but.

    • +2

Maybe if you wanted to watch it in 2D, but the 3D films have always been at a premium.
Also, just because it's not a bargain for you doesn't mean it isn't for anyone else so the negative isn't justified.
I don't go and vote down offers that offer 10% off at certain places just because I get 10% off said places with my RACV card any time I want…

      • 2nd that. Does anyone know if it's available in ACT?

        • Doesn't look like it. The only Event Cinemas in the ACT is in Manuka but Avatar 3D does not appear on its session times list (nor does any other current 3D movie for that matter).

My guess is that Manuka is not equipped to screen 3D movies.

      • No…this is the 3D prices. Cinaplex in Brisbane, of which there are multiple cinemas around the place run at about $14 or so to see a film in 3D. The cinemas are no worse or better than Event's too.

I'll give you that this isn't accessable for everyone, but for me in Brisbane its not a bargain as there is plenty of other cinemas doing screenings at this price. The only catch is that Avatar is no longer showing there but it was for about four or five months so I don't personally think thats such a biggie. You might not neg it but for me this is like EB having $20 off a game which takes it to RRP and is really applicable to anyone that lives in Brisbane or wherever else cinaplex may be.

It's not a bad deal…I just don't think its a bargain based on the prices I already pay anyway. For others its a deal and they should vote it positive, just like they have.

        • " For others its a deal and they should vote it positive, just like they have. "

So if its a deal for some why the negative vote…..everything here is a deal for some and not others.

          • @ugoagogo: Because for me its not a deal, I have easy access to similar prices which I took advantage of months ago?

I place emphasis on the word "me", it's my view that the Event tickets were overpriced to begin with and I've given you an alternative that has lower prices as standard that I have access to and didn't require me to wait six months to take advantage of. For me (and arguably anyone located anywhere near Brisbane) it's not a cheap price thus the vote.

            • +1

@Smigit: So following that I thought about retracting the negative based on what you said but I've decided not to. I liken it to EB Games having a sale that puts the game at the same price available at JB for the past several months. Just because someone may not be close to a JB that doesn't mean everyone here would automatically vote the EB deal as positive.

I also think the $20 or whatever people mentioned as a ticket price is ludicrous to begin with (http://www.natoonline.org/statisticstickets.htm looked interesting btw) so I don't really see myself wanting to promote Event when they drop their price to one that smaller chains have been doing already anyway.

    • +1

$20 is the going rate to see a 3D movie and buy glasses. No tight arse Tuesday either for 3D. So how are you seeing 3D movies this cheap otherwise?

      • I had a quick look and found that the small QLD-only Cineplex cinema chain do screen their 3D movies for $12.

        http://www.cineplex.com.au/pricing.php

However, they also only have five locations versus Event/BCC's 20+ locations in QLD.

    • The cheapest place in Brisbane to see a movie is Southbank Cinemas (AFAIK).
      3D Movies cost:
      Adults: $13.00
      Students/Seniors: $11.00
      Children & Pensioners: $9.00
      (subtract $1 if BYO glasses)
It used to be $13 accross the board, but they changed it.

But Avatar is no longer showing at Sbank, so i think this deal can't be matched.

      • You're right, its not showing. I did however consider the fact it was showing for something like 4 or 5 months before voting. It's a good "last chance" offer.

It's nothing personal, just the prices above are what I pay as standard now days to see a film.

  • charging $1 for the glasses is a rort.

    • +3

u can bring your own and then not have to pay it..if you really are that frugal, just wait outside a 3d cinema, and pick one up from the 3d glasses recycling boxes

      • +1

I think @ $12 it should be included. Seriously the cinema is too much these days!

      • I'm sure it's making those who bought 'designer style' 3d glasses feel better about their questionable purchase, considering they can't be used at home anyway.

  • +4

I don't understand why cinemas charge us booking fees when we book online. Doesn't that mean less work for them as there will be less people actually queuing for tickets?

    • +1

1+ .. $1 online booking fee is ridiculous .. Also just curious, are they not providing 3D glasses anymore ? I haven't been to the cinema since last Oct, back then they would give you a free pair of glasses

      • It's not a bad deal esp for those who want to see it again or for the first time but missed out but apparently its going to re-enter the cinemas again at the end of the year with 6 mins added on :P

3d glasses? at least at event cinemas you have to pay for the glasses.

The 1 dollar booking fee is crap esp and you get charged an extra dollar each person you book in as well!!!

As far as I see it, its so we don't have to wait in their dodgy lines and mediocre service.

    • +4

What I don't understand is why the booking fee is per ticket rather than per transaction.

      • Anyway to make a $.

  • I saw it tonight and man was I missing out on a great movie. The 3D blew me away. Definitely $13 well spent.

  • +1

Booking fee for Gold Class is $2.75 per ticket. Grrr :(
Bloody rip-off. C'mon Birch, surely we've paid for your website by now.
Overpriced tickets and booking fees = loss of my custom.
