  • Bought 5 weeks ago when it was $19 :-( but it works :-)

One also available at Masters for $14.50 if it's closer

    • So you just have to do the math to figure out which is the better deal.

My masters is about a kilometer closer than my Bunnings.

But the product is 10 cents more though..

So it would have to be.. 8l/100km.. 125c/l.. driving an extra km.. DAMNIT!

Just bought a 25m extension cord from Mitre 10 for $12.50.

      is it heavy duty?

      • It says so on the label - but it's debatable how 'heavy duty' any cheap extension cord is.

        • There's heavy duty which is 10A and then there's extra heavy duty which is 15A. This one here in the thread description would be good only for handyman home use.

Real tradies use extra heavy duty 15A.

        • Need to look for the wire size. At this length you really want 1.5mm2 cable if you're going to be pulling any decent amount of power through it.

There are some cables with 1.5mm2 cable and 10A plugs. Can't go wrong with a 15A cable, just need to keep in mind that a 15A plug has a larger earth pin that won't fit a 10A socket and would need to be replaced or filed down if that's what you plan to use it with. (15A socket will accept both)

        • @bamzero:

Yeah. Then 15A cables it seems are only good for 15A sockets. Average handyman will be using the heavy duty 10A leads.

@bamzero: Don't file down the goddamn earth pins!!

Don't file down the goddamn earth pins!!

Next you'll be telling us not to bend the US plugs to fit Australian sockets.

        • @Telios:

Agreed, not a good thing to do, and definitely don't run 15A through it.

        • @bamzero:

Agreed, not a good thing to do,

Who would pay extra for a 15A cable and then file it down so you can use it in a socket with a 10A circuit breaker?

        • @KentT:

Most houses don't have any 15A sockets. Running something like a compressor over 25mt can be problematic on 1mm cable sometimes.
Ideally a shorter cable is going to be better.

        • @KentT:

Did that to have the extra copper when charging my electric car, reduced resistance and heat coming off it.

  • captain risky uses these for his outdoor spa

  • Are these the ones in the pallet box?

Looking closely they don't seem nearly as good quality as the HPM ones on the shelf, and that's taking into account that HPM is junk.

    • Not all HPM power cables are junk. If one is really serious handyman/tradie then this is the sort of power lead that should be bought. This one isn't junk.

      https://www.bunnings.com.au/hpm-tradesman-15-amp-extra-heavy…

But then i suppose it's not the sort of thing most Ozbargainers would be using.

      • 15A has different plugs and sockets. The socket is backward compatible with 10A devices but the plug will only go into a 15A outlet.

        • I see. Then us Ozbargainers are stuck with heavy duty 10A leads. Still i wouldn't skimp on a cheapy when it comes to heavy duty power leads.

        • @hollykryten:

I have an HPM cord. It was the cheapest I could justify without driving to Masters.

        • @LoopyLou:

Yeah it's a good branded lead. I was referring to the basically generic stuff.

  • These are the best every day value and somewhat heavier than the more expensive ones Big W sell.
