LIFX LED Smart Lightbulb - 2 for $98 ($49 Each) at Harvey Norman

120

Harvey Norman have the original LIFX LED Smart Lightbulb for $76, but you can get 2 for $98.

Note: You can still get 2 for $60 US from the deal here even though it currently says out of stock and 2 of the new Color 1000s for AUD $127 odd delivered using the save102016 code from the LIFX website.

Not quite as good as this deal, however this is local stock with local warranty and pretty 'cheap' for these. Note that there is a newer model available called the Color 1000. Uses less power (generates less heat) and is smaller but by most accounts it's otherwise the same as these originals.

I figured it warranted its own thread to highlight the deal at Harvey Norman.

Specs: http://www.lifx.com/pages/the-original-info-sheet

No HomeKit support (yet). But works with a bunch of other things: http://www.lifx.com/pages/connects-with-lifx

You linked to HN instead of the other deal.

      Sorry, fixed.

Just a heads up if its applicable to you.

    From their site:

"LIFX® Bulbs are not designed for use in:

Enclosed fixtures that limit the flow of air "

That kills using them in a standard opaque 'fish bowl' ceiling fixture like I have. The magic wouldn't be the same without a cover over them looking like an ordinary light.

    • Would that be due to a possible build up of heat?

      • +2

        Yep thats their reason.

    • hm I'm almost ready to get rid off 'fish bowl' fixture so I could chuck this bulb in.

      • I've been running standard LEDs without a fixture for a while and it's been fine. Less light diffusion I guess but otherwise it hasn't bothered me.

        • I've managed to smash one of mines so the bulb has been exposed for a while now. Having this LED bulb exposed should not be a problem unless it shines like supernova.

@yoba: true. They can be dimmed though. I doubt I'll run them at full power most of the time.

I just want to tell me phone "Google boom chicka wow wow" and it turns my bedroom into a pulsating red love dungeon.

The other deal is still live for Bayonet and E27 Black

  • Are these for the white or RGB model? Assuming white from the HN model number - BUL-11-A21B22-W. Assume RGB as description references colour, but would like to know for sure instead of a terrible description before I jump.

    • I bought two in store for that price. Description says 16 million colours and they only have one model which is the coloured one.

  • I prefer to get LIFX Color 1000, save in energy cost by 6w at full brightness (compare original 17w & color 1000 11w with same lumens)

buy 2 of Color 1000 for US$99.98 from LIFX Website & get extra 10% discount with this CODE: save102016,
with end up total of US$89.98 (AU$127.77 or AU$63.88/each) DELIVERED.

EXTRA $14/each if you compare with HN price for saver energy cost & newer model.

    • Do the 1000s run cooler than the originals? Assuming so given the lower wattage. Now I'm wondering if I should return mine and grab the 1000s from the website instead.

Found a site that compared them. At 3200K, the originals run at 70 degrees, new ones at 60 degrees. In terms of yearly savings it's peanuts. Don't know if my calculations are right, but at 5h/day usage, using them every day for a year and paying 35c per KWh, that's $7 vs $11 odd pear year. Or $4 difference. I suppose it adds up if you have multiple running at the same time.

  • Highly recommend LIFX. Great lighting, haven't had any issues with mine purchased last year. Decent price too

If you don't care about local stock and warranty, it is still cheaper to get direct from their website using code "RMN50" for $59.99 USD (2 bulbs) delivered.

    • When I purchased mine direct from lifx.com they were local stock. In fact the company started up in Melbourne

  • Would the xiaomi yeelight blue ii be a decent cheap alternative?

    • They're half the lumens I think (500 vs 1000 for these), so they wouldn't be anywhere near as bright. Depends what you need them for though.

Edit: I'm not associated with this store. Pressed it by mistake.

  • Looks like Officeworks are selling the original versions, had hoped otherwise..

  • Would these be alright for the outdoors in a pendant type light?

    • +1

I don't think they're designed for outdoor use. Might depend on how much weather protection you have.
