Cebu Pacific - Return Flights Sydney to Manila $358.88 AUD 1/11/16 to 31/03/17

230

Cebu Pacific is having a sale again.

I have flown with them before on this leg a few times and I think that they are one of the better budget airlines.

November 2016 to March 2017. Usual Christmas blackout applies for Dec departures and Jan arrivals.

Prices I found in late 2016
$199.00 AUD - SYD to MNL (19 November)
$159.88 AUD - MNL to SYD (26 November)

Plane is usually an Airbus A330 with 9 seats per row (all economy). always has lots of friendly staff. Return flight is a red eye.

This deal is flight only and expect optional extras such as meals and baggage fees to be selected by default through the booking process (but all can be removed).

Flight lands in T3 in Manila. Its a new and modern terminal with better facilities than the Qantas terminal, though it can be a wait for a cab.

There is no discount for pre-booking your meal and while it is cheaper than anything at Syd airport, you may find better options on the onboard menu.

Ticket includes up to 7kg carry on baggage. Expect to have your carry-on weighed if you are not checking in any bags. Baggage costs have increased a fair bit in the past year and expect to pay ~$35-$50 depending on size.

Costs are billed in AUD and there are no credit card surcharges (MC or Visa only). They now also accept Paypal and will charge in PHP if you prefer.

  • Similar offer to what was available in March.

Whilst these used to be offered about once a month, the '$199' deal is not as common as it used to be and cheaper deals are even rarer.

FWIW I have been waiting on this for a while and was hoping for a EOFYS sale

I wish they would have sales like they used to!
Its been a year next week since the last time Cebu Pacific had Sydney-Manila return sale for $143 and 9 months since the last $211 return :(

    • +1

      You and me both!

The $143 was a "wet season" sale. I was waiting and waiting for it this year, but it never came.

I booked a couple of short $211 flights last year. both are now finished. The most recent one was 2 weeks ago and the plane was half empty on both legs.

Looks like they are following the mould of most budget airlines - cheap flights regularly for the first year then good specials few and far between.

      • Yeah they used to have a $143 return sale once a month a year + ago. I took 9 people to the Philippines last month on the old sale fares i booked and both flights were half full aswell, cant complain we all had a bed each.

  • Can you professional OzBargainers above please comment on the quality of the plane… I am aware it's budget… but is it comparable to Jetstar or TigerAir if you catch my drift?

    • +2

I don't catch your drift. I might be a little slow?

The planes are modern, they are not large but not small either.

Its a budget airline, seat space is cramped, but unless you fly during Xmas period more than likely the plane will be half empty which helps relieve that.

You pay extra for luggage, food, drinks, towels, pillows, anything else you want.

Staff are predominately Filipina's. They can speak good English and are friendlier IMHO than either Tiger or Jetstar.

      There is zero inflight entertainment.

    • +1

Are you asking about comfort or reliability? The planes are relatively new but they are the most densely configured A330s in the world at 436 all economy seats. Very similar to Jetstar.

1/1/16 <—— travel back in time???

Will never fly with Cebu again.

Well, technically I have never flown with them because they cancelled both our internal flights on a recent trip to Philippines.

Basically they're incompetent and customer service is terrible.

  • +1

Have flown with Cebu Pacific half a dozen times. For international flights they are only normally an hour or two late. Internal flights can be a lot later.

Last time I checked, on-time performance was less than 30%.

I'd fly again - prefer the staff and planes to Qantas.

    • For flights to Manila, I have never been on time, best was about 15 minutes late. worst was about an hour.

Looking at recent times, this flight has been pretty close to on time lately:

      https://flightaware.com/live/flight/CEB39

That said, if you are using Manila as a gateway to Europe or any other part in asia outside the PI - I do not recommend it. Its a very busy airport, heavy traffic around the airport and travel between terminals is difficult at best. Much better using Singapore.

      • Yeah the flights to/from Sydney are not that late most of the time.

Some of the internal flights (like Manila to Tacloban) can be shockingly late. It doesn't help that PI is prone to severe weather. A bad storm in Leyte and often your flights will be 6+ hours late, if they run at all.

  • +1

The planes are new but don't expect any in flight entertainment so bring a book or tablet. Staff are good but yes flight delays are common so keep this in mind when booking connection flights.

Food drinks and baggage are of course extra.

  • One more note -

You may notice a special "Visa only" promotion on the front page. Don't use it if you are booking after November 1. It will make your flights $100 dearer.
