Damn, I had been struggling against the price at $159. Couldn't say no at $99. Total cost $122.94 delivered to Canberra.

  • Nooooooooo damn got on board the other month for $188 delivered with 2gb ram. Grrrrrrrr Ahhh well.

This might be a dumb question but could you add a video card and use it as a HTPC?

    • +1

There are no dumb questions, only .. no you're right.

Actually previous deals have said while you can do so it is quite noisy.

    • +2

The fan is a bit noisy. On startup, it is very, very noisy. And the fan connection is unusual too so if you want to change the fan you might have to splice a few wires.

It's not particularly small either. About standard midi-tower.

    • +1

If you intend to use as HTPC, yes you can add a passive cooled graphics card with HDMI output no problems for $40

  • +1

    back to $159…

    • +3

Yep my item page is showing $99 but $159 in the cart.

Maybe its like Fishpond, when people start buying stuff they price goes up.

      • +1

        Uber

    • yep.

  • +2

    Says $159?!

  • $159 here too

  • $159

  • What do you guys use these for? Any article to show the benefit of these?

    • I'm using mine as an off-site backup server.

      • Where do you keep it? Need some ideas for off site in case something happens to my main server :P

        • The in-laws… If you don't already have in-laws. I suggest you find some with cable internet…
Probably worth noting I'm using this for personal use not business.

        • @bluechan: I have cable, that 2Mb/s upload speed is a bitch. Need dat NBN.

Using it for personal use too.

        • +1

@deanylev: yeah my slow upload speed doesn't concern me. My backups shouldn't be that large. Or I'd have a different setup. It's just insurance in case of a fire or burglary.

    • What do you guys use these for?

You use them as a SERVER.

For serving files. For dealing with your email. For downloading. For dealing with your backups.

For doing stuff that is of utility function, which you don't want to be bothered using your proper PC for.

Servers aren't fast - they are 24/7 utility boxes that sit in a back room, usually without even a monitor on them.

Any article to show the benefit of these?

Why would you need an article? You either need a server, or you don't.

For plain file distribution, use a NAS (a simpler server with embedded operating system). If you want more grunt, you step up to something like this HP.

  • Er… That went fast.
Crikey. 600 clicks in 30 mins.

  • +2

Anyone actually managed to order it for 99$? :)

    • I did $99 + delivery + surcharge = $122ish

      • Apparently it was a pricing error, hope they honour the sale.

        • I got an email saying something about being processed and waiting for dispatch from the warehouse. So yeah fingers crossed.

        • +1

          @besmirched:

It arrived this morning, super fast delivery.

  • +1

Will this be available again for $99?

    • +9

      Sure

  • damn I was hoping for one

  • +2

It would be great if they could do a deal on some xeon cpu's to go with them. The e3-1231 would be ideal.

  • Damn it, why did I have to sleep? I am getting one at 159 anyway. Cheaper than anywhere else and I can pick up and bring it on the tram. Anyone luck in installing Synology or Qnap OS on it? Otherwise I might just install Esxi and forget about it.

  • Edit: Oops, already asked.

  • the 4GB stick of ECC ram is half the damn cost!

  • How many hdd slots hey

    • 4 3.5" bays.

      • Anyone know if you can put more on the motherboard, or sata split etc?

        • It has 2 extra sata's on the mobo. There's 4 pci-e slots as well for more expansion.

  • Do these have suspend-to-ram (sleep mode)?
Older models did not, making it unsuitable for HTPC or other non-server roles, FYI.
Even for a home server, it is good to have suspend with wake-on-lan, rather than run 24/7.

    • But if you use it as a NAS or torrent box then you'd want it on 24/7 though.
But if you use it for a HTPC it maybe slightly overkill.

Depending on your setup, it maybe better to setup Plex and get a cheap android box to plex to.

    Mine has been shipped!

I think I might do a review/setup thing in the forum when I get it.

Just in case people are interested, I initially installed 4 x 8tb drives in my ML10. Last night I migrated my old N40L hard drives (4 x 4tb) across to the ML10 as well.

So now I have a total of 48tb sitting inside my ML10. Used an Adaptec 5805 to add the extra drives.

Even with my SSD OS drive, I still have a spare SATA port from the original mobo. And the Adaptec has another 4 ports, but I suspect trying to fit another 4 drives may be pretty difficult.

All in all pretty happy with this server!

    • Porn?

      • What's the point when you know all the endings before they start?

      • Whatever floats your boat I guess?

Movies, TV shows, music, photoshoots, computer backups.

    • 4 in the cage and 2 in the ODD bays.
Where did you mount the remaining two?

      • I put them at the bottom of the case. If you lay them vertically, they actually partially sit nice and tight under the drive cage.

        • Could I see a photo of this please?

        • +1
        • @atlas:
Interesting. A HDD doesn't fit there in my machine. The bracket below the drive cage extends about half a mm too low. I tried a few different drives but there was no variation. I expect that with a little fabrication, something could be worked out. Its very tempting to decommission two of my microservers and migrate 8 drives here, after I pickup a raid (adaptec seems to be popular) card.
          But, thanks for the photo.

        • @nige0090: At certain spots I think there are pertruding bits which might prevent them from fitting - just have to fiddle with it. Also make sure you remove any screws from your HDDs.

  • What OS can these run ?

    • Anything you want, it's a computer.

      • so it can run a Mac OS ?

  • Why am I getting rick rolled on one computer but not the other when i click the link? TUrns out it was because I had PIA on

  • Really tempted to buy one but it has no use for me.

  • Was checking out but it's back to $159

    • In the basket for 99, boom! back to 159 when asking pay details. Thanks anyway.

  • Added to cart for $99, check out at $159 :(

  • +1

I managed to get one at $99 - just!

EDIT: Pricing error :( See below. Still tempting @ $159 though - might re-order.

  • Is it supposed to be $99?

    I'm getting $159.

    • yes, I was ordering and the price jumped up from $99 to $159 - this sort of low stock bait and switch is criminal.

  • +5

    Hi Guys,

Our apologies, there is an error in our system that keeps putting this to $99, we have now found and corrected it and it shouldnt recur.

We are already selling these below our cost at $159 and cannot support at $99, we did let some orders through on a previous occasion as an act of goodwill towards ozbargainers, but we cant lose this much again and for the 5 or so people that managed to get an order through today, we unfortunately need to immediately refund them.

This was not a deliberate "bait and switch" as someone said above, we certainly didnt try to promote anything… just a complex system with many thousands of products and an issue we couldnt find until now.

Honestly we were suprised at how quickly people jumped onto this after it changed! #ozbargain

We appreciate the support of the Ozbargain community, thanks for understanding.

That being the case I too need to apologise for posting the initial bargain. I certainly didn't intend to cause any trouble.

MODs: as this was a price error. Perhaps it would be best to remove this thread and forget it ever happened?
