  • I checked out these TVs when the price was $599 a couple of months ago. Overall the picture is good although lacks dynamic range. Everything is either bright, or dark, with little in between. The pixels can also be seen due to the relatively low resolution of the display and 4:3 aspect ratio stretched to 16:9. But for $500 you really can't complain.

It looks a heck of a lot better than the Sanyo 42" Plasma BigW was selling recently for $200 more. That TV's colours looked quite washed out and pale. The same video feed was provided to all TVs on display.

  • Hmm, 8ms response time for a plasma, that doesn't sound right? Anyway, regardless of the specs it is a pretty good deal for a second TV.

  • Size or quality; the age-old question for every … tv shopper.

  • Fair nice price for a fair average TV. Hanging out for the Storewide/iTouch Sales…

  • Hi all, does anyone know if this has a HD tuner built in and if the USB can be used to play movies from a hard drive

    • Yes it has the HD tuner built in. As for the USB - I'd say no.

    • i have the 42inch full hd lcd that was here a few weeks back and the usb doenst really play movies from usb flash even, like it does but only some formats which i havent got around to trying since i bought a wdtv mini but yeah.
i think dicksmith have a 14day return for any reason policy…..well if u buy it in the store anyways.

also sometimes the tvs at dicksmith look shithouse because the play some dvd on it and its been piggy backed off like 20 screens and it turns out really bad….well mines did anyways took it home and it was fantastic in comparison…

  • Wow

  • +2
  • hmmmm i dont see anything about warranty?

    • 12 months.

      • thanks - thats what i assumed, anyway - bought 1, hopefully the delivery guys dont get the address wrong. =D

  • id rather keep my $500 thanks…

  • should i guy 1? i have been looking for TV since 2 weeks ago… have not found 1 with my limit budget (under 1k)… bunch of ppl say, no good… but a + from me

    • If you're on a limited budget, definitely think about getting one. Seen a couple of these in DSE shops and they work just fine if you're watching FTA and DVD primarily - I would consider buying one if I needed a second TV, I thought the pictures were ok. Obviously if you're watching Blu-Ray normally you would wanna buy a better full HD TV.

      $500 - geez prices have come down haven't they…

  • so hard to justify spending $500 on a large size TV with low resolution…sigh..

    1024* 768… not even proper 720p

  • I don't think this is a good TV, specially on the 1024x768, for a big TV this is only good if you have analog Foxtel or old dvd players ;)

  • Obviously this TV wasn't aimed at people that intended on keeping it for a long time like when they have families and stuff. Think about it from another angle. Like someone who has a really low budget. Maybe a small apartment with 3-4 roommates (students lets say) that want a bigger TV. So, yeah it is a bargain but one that would only benefit a smaller group of people.

Having said that, 1024x768 is pretty appalling for a 42" TV. Thats what.. a common netbook's resolution too, isn't it?

  • just bought a better one from Dick Smith. Went to the shop 2 hours ago and will be delivered this saturday. got it for 669 - 42" LCD and double this resolution. Vivo is not really bad quality especially if u r OZ. coz Vivo is local brand and it is using SAMSUNG's chips. : ) This dick smith is just beside Myer (Sydney City). It has the best manager ever…!!! he gave me the cheapest price for every signle items i got…!!!
