  • Welcome. Great first post!

  • Wow, awesome deal. Tyvm

  • i wonder if ow carries these monitors would they price match this?

    • I think they don't price match deals with coupons, only list prices.

  • and this is going cheap cause it's an old model isnt it? cause i cant find it on the dell site under the monitors category

    • Try the small business section.

      • yeah i did it's a the S2209WA with a price tag of over 300
        clearly not this monitor

        • Mmmm, I can find it no problem. Dell S2209W 21.5-inch Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor, and the price is $349. I tested it with the coupon and it worked.

        • S2209W = TN Panel
          S2209WA = IPS Panel

          • @moo: I use 2209WA in the office, not sure if there's an S2209WA.

  • Wow this is very cheap..

So tempted to get another one but i already have 2 monitors. :(

  • Great deal, cheaper than any other 21.5" monitor!

  • $27.72 buys you 5 years warranty

    • 4 years I think.

      • +1

        it's 40% off the warranty as well…

but not sure if it's worth it considering how cheap monitors are and how rarely they break

  • +2

    So cheap.
But can't go back to 21.5 inch now that 24" is the norm.

  • +1

Great price, I had to grab one since it's fast approaching the end of the financial year and I haven't bought anything yet to claim :(

  • Is this the only model the coupon can apply to?

  • Good deal!

  • should i get this or the ST2410 24" that was posted a while back?

the only thing different is the price

    how is this monitor?

    • To help you decide, here is a summary from a review -

There's a lot to like about Dell's offering in the affordable 22-inch full-HD segment. The S2209W is a subtly stylish monitor with slightly above average image quality compared to most TN screens.

In the end, it's one of those monitors that does better in isolation than in comparison. Viewed by itself, it's a pretty pleasant looking display that might just fool you – at a glance – into thinking it was a mediocre IPS panel. Placed side by side with a good VA or IPS screen, however, its short comings are obvious.

That said, there are two areas where it falls short by any standard. Worst of all is the backlight bleed around the top and bottom edges of the panel. It's the sort of basic image quality faux pas that does much to cheapen the overall feel of the monitor.

Couldn't help myself. Had to get one of these =p

  • What's the resolution on this monitor?

    • Full HD. 1920 x 1080

  • Just ordered one.. This is s good deal IMO.. Thanks!

  • +1

This is an awesome deal. I don't even need a monitor but I'm trying to think of a reason to justify purchasing this one..

I just wish you didn't say the stupid first post comment..

    "First post, please be kind."

Why would anyone beat you down about this deal!?

  • i am not able to use it, i selected the sw22099w but
Dell Ultrasharp Monitor 22 Ultrasharp(TM) Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor always in my cart

    • +2

Use the link at the top-right of this post and it should work.

  • thanks camelgrass, it works now

  • In for one. Perfect.Tried the 7pc moneybackco clickthrough as well. Lets see if that goes through

    • Why did someone neg that. Congrats zcream for your initiative.

EDIT: Can you let us know how you go with that. Trying to find the monitor through the site (as opposed to clicking on the link) and I can't find it.

    • +1

use buckscoop moneyback rips you off with yearly fees

  • Is this monitor very cheap at this price compared to other brand of similar 21.5" size like LG samsung etc?

  • Can you use this monitor as a free standing photo frame through its usb ports with a memory stick and no pc input similar to a usb equipped Sony TV?
I guess the answer to be no as you would need some firmware in the monitor to do a slide show?

  • Will I be able to hook this up to a HD set top box via HDMI, and use it as a TV monitor?

    • It does not have an HDMI input nor speakers but you could use its vga or dvi inputs if your stb has such outputs and monitors work as great TVs but better to use a digital tuner stick ($12 Ebay) in a computer or netbook
    • "Seamlessly connect your desktops, notebooks and gaming consoles with the DVI (HDCP), VGA analog port and an HDMI port that helps retain the rapid transfer of high-quality video and audio in its pure uncompressed digital state."

That was from the product details. It has an HDMI port.

    • I disagree, if you only want to use it as a monitor for TV it is better to have a set top box. Simple setup and will consume much less power. You can also easily get HDMI to DVI cables, and output sound through other means. However if you do need speakers on the monitor, then it's probably not for you.

edit: I just looked at the user manual on the site, it does not have HDMI. It shows a picture with VGA and DVI only.

      http://supportapj.dell.com/support/edocs/monitors/S2209W/en/…

    • Correct, the S2209W DOESN'T have HDMI input.

If you want HDMI look at the Dell ST2410 http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/25630 .

For only $74 more you get HDMI and a significantly larger screen size (better value than this deal IMO).

      • $74 is a considerable amount more. I believe the S2209W has a better panel than the ST2410 too.

        • They are both TN panels, I'm not sure which one is "better". The 24" has a larger pixel pitch, which means text and objects are just that much larger - may be better for people with poor vision and those that spend a lot of time in front of the computer.

You can see a comparison here http://www.displaywars.com/21,5-inch-16x9-vs-24-inch-16x9

The 24" has a 25% larger screen area - definitely worth it for a TV as per discussion. But yes, it comes down to your budget as well.

    • Which digital tuner stick goes for 12 bucks ebay ? did not see any.

    • Off topic comment.
zcream asked about $12 Ebay tuner stick. Can be found here:

Have bought a few and they work well KevCol

  • Can this coupon code be used with any of their other monitors or only the S2209W?

    • Try it out and let us know.

    • +1

Exactly what I was going to say… I tried a couple other monitors with no luck.

  • +1

looking for a reason NOT to buy this

    seems like screaming value

lack of HDMI is not an issue with all the DVI/HDMI adapters/cables out there

  • You have to use the link. It is the S2209W only i think.

  • Just bought one. Awesome price, except it takes them 16 days to get it delivered. I live in Sydney. Even ebay sellers can deliver something within a week these days.

    • Yeah said it would be here no later than 31st of May for me too.

      • Hey, it got here today!

        • Wow that was quick. I wasn't home so I'm not sure if mine came today but they didn't leave anything…

        • What date did you order it?

  • Great find! Thanks

  • Good price, but model is too old, with cheap TN panel. still the best offter now. Thanks

  • Having a quick look at the specs, i've noticed that it only has a 1000:1 contrast ratio whereas other 21.5" (although higher priced) like the LG W2253TQ-PF shows a 50000:1 contrast ratio. Would both figures be in Typical or both be in Dynamic? By the looks of it the LG is quoting its dynamic contrast ratio whereas the Dell is quoting its typical contrast ratio. Confirmation of which contrast ratio would be great

    • +2

      dell 1000:1 is typical
      lg 50000:1 is dynamic

  • Sold! Its got to be better than the 19" CRT I'm using at the moment :-)

  • +1

ordered. dunno what I'm gonna do with another LCD.

  • Bought :)

  • Just wondering if you can turn it around to make it stand vertically for viewing documents, pdf etc..?

Will I need to purchase anything else to make it stand vertically?

    • I've never seen an LCD monitor that didn't have holes on the back for attaching it to a third-party stand/monitor arm, but I doubt very much that it has the ability to stand in portrait with the stand in the box.

  • there is no better time to buy one of this baby. just bought one. thumbs up for the poster!

  • Hmm will this be another dell bait and switch.. i have had enough with them

    • +1

Definitely not. I have gotten mine.

  • ordered mine on sunday morning, and a few hours later got the order comfiration… so looks like my order has been accepted.
    THANKS Guitar Man Steve

    • received it today… no dead pixels woohoo

      • Same here

  • I just hope they actually arrive well before the 31st, when the deal expires! I bought one for home use (for my office area where I build/repair computers - I currently use an old CRT screen, so this will save some benchspace!)…. but I'm tempted to buy a couple more for my office at work (since work only provides two 19" LCD's). I want to see the quality with my own eyes before I buy those extra ones for work. :)

    • Mine arrived today but unfortunately I wasn't home so it's waiting at the depot. Looks like you might get a chance to see it before the deal is over though which is good.

  • +6

Mines arrived! so far… I love it! Pros: Nice sharp picture (which is the main thing, I found Graphics>Game to be best setting for me, had a quick go of quakelive to test), comes with VGA and DVI leads. Cons: The glossy 3mm deep-from-the-screen bezel reflects the picture, and shows fingerprints, power button is a bit clunky/old school and has a bright white power indicator (as bright as this white screen). On a black screen (like watching a movie in letterbox for example) there is a faint glow from the backlighting around the perimeter, I know, thats getting picky, but hey, I noticed it… The stand does not swivel or height adjust, only tilt. I don't know about the mounting portrait question, the stand is attached for shipping. I think it locates into tabs at the top of the mounting bit because there are only screws at the bottom of it, others I have seen have 4 screws which would make for easier portrait mounting. OVERALL: I would still give it a 7.5 out of 10. I also have a Samsung 2243BW, although a lower res (slightly) I think its a bit better monitor, maybe an 8 to 8.5 :-) Its also 2x$ tho. I think I'm going to buy another one of these Dells, cheap az… Phew, hope that helps someone!

    • Thanks for the heads up Mossy. In general it sounds like a damn good buy!!

  • mine comes tomorrow morning!

  • What is my "Dell Associations/Motoring club Membership number"?

edit: never mind, they don't seem too fussy as they just authorised my credit card.

  • +1

    @ $137, who can complain!

P.S. They really should have the 24" for this price ;)

    • P.S. They really should have the 24” for this price ;)

S2409W? Same pixels, same specs, only 10% bigger, which means 10% further away for the same apparent size.
It does have hdmi, but I'll just use an adapter.
The only reason I could see for getting the 24" is if you are getting presbyopia.

In the new models (this is an old-model clearance), there is currently only $20 difference between the 21.5" and the 24".

The 27" IPS would be nice, but it is $1200. Still, that is not much by the standards of a few years ago.

  • Mine still hasn't arrived =(

  • Great deal

  • Just got a call from home. Mine arrived today :)
Now I know what I'm playing with tonight.

  • Ordered 2, one for home one for work, tks

    • "and one for the little boy who lives down the lane"

no really, i got one too. thanks op!

  • Do they send out notification about the courier, and how to track it? When I log in to the order status page it just says "20-May-2010: Dispatch to Local Courier". So it must be on its way, but I wouldn't mind knowing where it is!

  • What's the difference between this screen and the ST2210 which is currently $198?

Edit: Or $169 if you use the coupon 4MZR3KTJJRT0VS

Edit 2: Seems the ST2210 is the newer model and has HDMI.

    • Edit 2: Seems the ST2210 is the newer model and has HDMI.

Glad you found the Dell website :-)

Also, the new one has no digital cable. Probably due to pressure from retailers, who make more profit on the cable than the monitor.

So the old one might need a dv-hdmi adapter. The new one definitely needs a cable.

  • Monitor arrived today via courier. Took approximately 5 business days (received on the 5th day) from payment.

Happy with monitor, also comes with both vga and dvi cables, which is handy.

  • seems like the screen is taken down now…

    • Working fine for me

      • sorry yeah it works fine, you just gotta click on the picture instead of the link.

  • Bought one too, yay~

  • Bought 3.

I don't know about you guys but IPS gives me eye strain. TN Film seems to be easy on my eyes.

    This is perfect.

    +1

  • Mine arrived today, great screen and slightly brighter than my ST2310 main screen. Made it a vertical screen - the stand doesn't seem to support vertical mode but I've sorta screwed it back perpendicularly and used a piece of wood on the base for the extra height… until a proper stand with vesa mount arrives. :)

  • I got mine about a week ago. It's actually almost as big as my 23" Samsung.
