When should I buy a LG Nexus 5X?

I am wanting to buy the 5x, however looking at past discussions on here, I've noticed it was a lot cheaper a few months ago (unfortunately). i can afford to wait a little bit (my S3 is cracked, buttons broken and very slow, running on 4.3). I really want to play Pokemon Go though, which is unsupported on my S3.- no more available upgrades.

eBay seller DWI, has the 32gb model for $369 which is good value.

However everywhere in store has ridiculous prices.
jBHIFI- 32GB for $649!!!

Should I go with the eBay seller? Or will the 5x possibly become lower in the next month?

  • The price may drop in October as a new Nexus device (2016) is announced.

    Leaks are as follows:

^ This of course should be taken with a grain of salt.

If you want a cheap interim device you should probably look into getting a Xiaomi Mi4 for less than $200,

    • Thanks for this. Although, I definitely can't hold on to my current phone, until October!

        Sell it off
        Use a cheap Chinese alternative
        then sell it off too

edit I should also add, the LG G2 (D802, 32GB) and the LG G3 (D855) are about $200~240 dollars on eBay. They're older flagship handsets that have a lot of developer attention and can run Lollipop to Marshmallow.

Worth checking out if you don't trust a ChinaDroid.

        • Great advice.
          I also second this.

Before you buy, please check it is the correct variant (processor, basebands, unlocked?) for you… and also check the xda-developer.com forum to see what are the best options (custom kernels, roms, locked bootloader?).

      • Are you really that desperate you can't wait a couple of months? Patience is a virtue.

Considering my phone is held together with sticky tape, yes.

        • @Orange banana: Hahaha fair enough. I thought it might be so you can play Pokemon

@Savas: partly yes. Been held together for a month with tape and just so happens Pokemon go was released, good timing to get a new phone IMO.

for that price id say buy it its not like it's going to drop in price significantly enough to go to the trouble of buying a completely different phone till this one drops in price.

why spend 240 dollars when it's only 129 more for a phone you want that isnt a used phone nor an olderflagship.

it's not like youre asking about the 6p which would pay to wait for the inevitable price drop.

    • That's what I was thinking. Just worrying about the 12month DWI warranty.

      • Be careful about 12 month "warranty" from grey-market vendors.
If you can do a quick Google, especially for whirlpool.com forums to see what type of experience you may expect.

But I have heard of people reaching out to Google even from Facebook, and getting help and support when the vendors refuse to help.
A co-worker did the same for Gear VR from Samsung on Facebook, and got it sent to her home address.

I bought one from DWI last week. Love it. Life has risks. Get the phone and get your Pokemon.

    • thats good to hear! Did it include an Australian adapter?

      • Yes

  • If you don't mind the white version, you can get it from DWI on eBay for $369 combined with the $85 for $100 spend from Groupon voucher brings it down to $354.

There's this deal posted by nocure but I can't seem to get that price in the cart- maybe it's expired?

Pretty good price- about the cheapest you'd get for now. I actually posted a deal for this phone a week or two ago and it was around $353 too, so I'd say it won't budge too much right now.

Honestly don't see it dropping below $300 anytime in the next few months (or even this year)- think of that $50 as a 'pokemon/I want it now tax' :)

    • Thank you for this, I didn't know about the Groupon voucher! This may sound silly, but the eBay price doesn't have extra surcharges does it through PayPal? I've read people saying there was a 3.5% surcharge with DWI. I am guessing this is only the online website?

      • Not that I'm aware of? Either way it should tell you at checkout, but I don't think I've encountered paypal fees placed on the buyer through eBay.

According to the DWI website there is a 2% surcharge on paypal/credit card payments through their website.

      • That deal expired on 10/07, and the cheapest 32GB 5X you can get from eglobal at the moment is $362 incl shipping.

  • Ordered it from DWI ebay. Fingers crossed it turns up with no faults.

    • Did you receive the phone okay? I'm thinking of ordering from their eBay store.

      • Yep! I ordered it on Monday afternoon and it had attempted delivery Thursday afternoon (I wasn't home, so they redelivered Friday). I was also provided with a tracking number through toll.

It's genuine and working fine. Definitely worth buying from them rather than instore.

Just remember to order/buy a nano sim card!
