WA/Perth - Fixed Wireless Broadband - 500GB (12/1Mbps) for $79.95/Month (Metro), $89.95/Month (Rural) @ Red Broadband

102

Ok, so lets start off by saying this is fixed wireless broadband, please don't compare prices/features with regular ADSL. This is for those people on a RIM who can't get ADSL, or who's speeds are so slow it's not worth what you're paying anyway.

Father-in-law has been chasing good broadband for a while, they're on the edge of 2 nodes, so their one side of the street can't get regular ADSL with anyone. This is in suburban Perth. He's tried Vivid etc and had stuff all luck. He recently got a PS4 which just really needed internet! He heard about this mob from his neighbours, and for the price it's a good option!

  • I don't think that's bad at all. Especially since only downloads count towards allowance

  • Thanks for this

    • what…extra $10 a month if regional. It's satellite, why would it cost more???

      • An insurance against needing to do a site visit possibly?

        • close to $200 extra a year even if only 20 GB plan

As HeXa pointed out….it isn't satellite at all

      • "what…extra $10 a month if regional. It's satellite, why would it cost more???"

I'm not saying it's Aliens, but it's Aliens

woah… was wondering how the f**k could they offer such high download quota for the price, then I saw this is NOT A SATELLITE PLAN !!!

it is fixed wireless, which is much cheaper to offer

prices are nothing special compared to Skymesh and the like ->

NBN Wireless is not available in Perth.

      • EDIT: guess depends what is considered "Perth"… I don't know west coast well enough to say where the outer burbs stop being perth and become some other city. I see you point about this being possibly the only option for metro areas of Perth that have poor fixed line coverage where NBNco still won't offer their fixed wireless

original deal fixed - neg revoked

  • Lowest plan 20GB on 12 month contract…..$668 if metro and $848 if regional. Sorry but this isnt good :-(

  • Vivid Wireless with the new modem is much better than this and pretty much everyone gets good coverage as long as you don't live in the sticks

Also companies long term future has been questioned many a time in the WP forums

I have vivid at my parents house in Thornlie with installed external antennas mounted on the roof that I modded into the home gateway, they pull down a fairly consistent 18/19mbit now on unlimited data for the same price as the above deal. I'll have to dig up the link of how to do it for anyone interested, but worth shopping it around for 4g home wireless

      • Yeah im fairly close to a tower so no need for antenna's but I think even with spending a bit on the antenna's its better value for unlimited data and no need for any contracts or installation fee's.

      • FIL has vivid and its pretty slow. He would benefit from the external antennae. Could you please share your mod?
        Cheers.

  • Ok, so lets start off by saying this is satellite broadband

    Oh no it is not.

  • +1 for effort

  • I thought they had quicker plans also? I'm sure their web site showed it last time I looked. :-/
Reading through the whirlpool thread on red broadband, a lot of customers have actually seen a lot more unreliability in recent weeks. Maybe due to the new quicker plans they offered, or their inability to scale quick enough? Who knows?

I'm definitely interested in something like this as I'm getting max 2mbs where I am. Just not sure if a small player like red will have the stability of a (presumed) larger network like vivid?

Still in the process of migrating all my emails over to gmail before I kill my internode connection, so will be watching red and vivid closely in the coming months..
