    none in sydney cbd

    • +5

there used to be one on george st.

i suppose selling $10 kebabs isnt a sound business model if your rent is $10,000

      • +4

$10 is still expensive mate, even at Bogan street.

        • I think that's what he's implying…no turnover = no income! ;)

  • No stores in Adelaide, my little outdated town.

    • -2

Why do we need alibaba when we have Lawash. You buy 4 chicken kebabs for $15 charcoal grilled.

    • I remember seeing an Alibaba on hindley street and was just about to buy a bunch of the vouchers then I saw your comment.
Just looked it up the one on hindley ( https://www.facebook.com/alibabakebabhousee/ ) and I dont think it's the same. Thanks for saving me from the bargain heart ache!

      • Pleasure. Googled it early too, just to be sure, and their site doesn't list any stores in Adelaide.

    • -2

Adelaide doesn't have kebabs, we have yiros which is far better.

  • +9

Oh. I was wondering why you'd want to buy kebabs from Alibaba.

    • +19

Your kebab will take about 4-6 weeks to arrive.

      • Free shipping

        • Plus it will look just like a hamburger, just like you ordered.

  • +3

Alibaba kebabs are o.k but they just seems to be smaller kebabs (and more expensive) than others. if they put a normal amount of filling in it then i would purchase them more often. $6 with a coke is a bargain though

  • +2

Definitely a bargain, my local this would be $14-$16.

    • +5

time to find a better local?

  • +7

Any "chain" kebab stores are generally crap, the likes of Uncle Tonys or origin are awful.

The best kebabs are always your no name local stores, here in Brissy CBD the best Kebabs by far are on the corner of Albert and Mary.

    • +2

      Katik in Campbellfield mhmmmmmmmmm

      • Yep, $6.50 for a Katik kebab that is 3 times the size, and tastier than Ali Baba kebab.

        • for 6.50 you're a lucky guy

    • +2

Ali Baba's used to just be a couple of stores in Canberra. The first one was in Woden. When they had just expanded into Sydney there still pretty good.

They've declined since however. They are better than many local store kebabs but far from as good as a good local store one.

In Canberra Yarralumla Pide House is by far the best kebab.

meh, hspas rates alibaba as crap

    • +1

HSPAS only care about how the food looks and that people have a stupid amount of sauce. Most of what they do is call people Dingos, their ratings are useless.

      • +2

        shh you dingo

        • Thanks for proving the point ;)

Can't take it seriously when the reason they drown the food in 3 sugary sauces is to cover the taste of the food.
Don't get me wrong I've had good ones but I've seen the ones that HSPAS rates highly and they're 2 parts chips 1 part meat 1 part sauce sprinkle of cheese.

Anyone else fed up with scoopon/groupon vouchers? The majority of the time I end up with substandard service ie. cheap. Bought a all you can eat one the other day that included a beer at an inner Melbourne restaurant. The beer we were given was from Aldi and not even on the menu…

    • +3

Yeah, I don't bother anymore…they make you notify them in advance so they can lower the bar, or piss & moan when you spring it on them so much that a night out ends up being a big shitfight. Not worth the hassle IME…

      • +6

they make you notify them in advance

I never notify them. I go to the restaurant, order the food and pay with the voucher.

I always take an actual print (screen shot) of the deal in addition to the voucher.

They get pissed off but i just walk out

      • +4

Found this to be a common trend in the past and also stopped buying vouchers for this reason too. My partner bought two in the last 12 months and one for a gift and everyone was really happy with the food/service. Always do a quick review check on the place first on Zomato/Facebook beforehand though. If the place has ran promotional vouchers in the past, then you'll know if it's worth it as most people are quick to write a place off after a bad experience.

    • Rivet Lager? Not on menu intentionally I'd say. Did they serve it in the can?

    • +2

Well, I would say it really depends. I have used groupon vouchers once in a while in different restaurants and places in Sydney and the quality and feeling varies quite a bit. I have everything from: "We have free tables! Oh you are using groupon? Need to book 3 days in advance" and some pretty bad experiences…But also some great experiences, by having awesome service and a feeling of being just like every other customer, eating good food, having a good time while saving quite a lot. So in the end, it really depends, I would say 80% good and 20% bad experiences.

      • +1

It's so nice when you go to a restaurant and get "a feeling of being just like every other customer"… =)
It's a wonder why you don't get that all the time… Do the restaurants that treat you badly want to get bad reviews? Or think you'll come back and pay full price to be treated "like every other customer"? Or did they just grossly miscalculate the vouchers?

        • True words. Sometimes I don´t understand as well. I had some pretty bad experiences with customer service, e.g. really bad waiters and the sudden drop of their mood when you say the magic word: "Groupon".
But to be fair, lots of restaurants and places are good and treat you well.

To topic: I like the kebabs from Ali Baba and I go there quite a bit in the short lunch break. Definitely recommended.

    • +1

They would be using Groupon wrong then. The idea is to give a discounted high quality service to increase your regular traffic.

In any case this voucher doesn't seem to suffer from that problem.

      • +2

Seems like for many the idea is to fill the X% of tables that are always empty. Not making profit from these additional customers or expecting them to come back but at least they help paying rent + wages.

Had some good experiences too though. I figured when restaurants are new, they use coupons to get people to know them and also to get a couple of good reviews. In these cases they tend to offer outstanding service to get some cred on zomato and the likes.

        • Ahh yep good call I didn't think of that aspect.

    • Did it say "not for resale" on it?

  • +1

Six bucks is a bargain. I would have wanted homous & tabouli but not at extra cost. For six bucks can live without them :)

  • Any in WA? There is a kebab shop called ali baba in Freo, but not sure if its the same

    • +1

Valid at any participating Ali Baba store across NSW, ACT, QLD & VIC

  • -6

An Ali Baba kebab isn't worth even $6.

    • +3

The standard supermarket price for a 390ml bottled drink is $3 (while the 330ml can is $2 - $2.50)
      That makes the kebab $3 - $4

  • +1

Hey OP, i just tried the BUY2DAY code and i think the $49 min counts individual vouchers, and not the total of the basket :(

    • thanks. your right. only applies to one deal :(

  • -1

    Mystery bags

  • Just to echo earlier comments, in Melbourne there used to be stores in Chadstone Shopping Centre and Waverley Gardens (Mulgrave) - both no longer exist.

Deal may be useful to anyone flying Tiger out of Melbourne as apparently there is a store in Terminal 4.

    • saw one at watergardens shopping centre

  • +3

Mate, the heaviest ingredient on these is the bread itself. The fillings are so skimp especially meat and there is a charge for every extra topping. So small and unsatisfying. These are garbage compared to Yarra kebabs (https://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Restaurant_Review-g255057-d72…
) for those who live in or around the ACT. Soooo much meat, fresh and not stinky, bread is freshly baked (soft, Turkish style), lots of salad, no extras for anything – weight a kilo - can never finish it. Best in Oz hands down! Worth the drive from Queano!

Sorry, I only eat Pork Kebabs!

  • +2

Do not even think about going to any Ali Baba outlet. The kebabs are disgusting, tiny portions, went to the one in Belconnen and the meat cutter guy was weighing the amount of meat he was putting in my kebab. Yarralumla kebabs is amazing and most definitely the best I have been to in Canberra. Ali Baba used to be good in the 90's and early 2000's, I think they went downhill when they tried to copy maccas and attempted to boost profits by giving customers more salad than meat in their kebabs.

    • Whats the problem with weighting the meat portion? So everyone gets the same and no one feels like they got less. Seems pretty fair to me.

      • +1

No problem to weight the meat portion but the portions are skimpy. It makes for a real nickle and dime experience with the rest of the charges for 'extras' which should be much cheaper if not standard.

  • I reckon best (not cheap mind you) kebab in sydney is the Yeeros Shop on Illawarra Road Marrickville, along with the hand-cut chips, holy-cholesterol batman I think I just gained a few kilo's thinking about them!

    • Yeeros Shop on Illawarra Road Marrickville

Agreed. Been there once. Delicious !!

  • Combine this with $1 KFC Regular chips and you got yourself a kebab + chips + drink combo

I do remember at Watergardens they used to have a kebab + chips + drink which at the time I thought was a great deal
