I did it last time in VIC and it's good for learning bowling and improving technique. They leverage a program used from the U.S. Watch video, get hand out sheet, theory discussion then put it into practice on the lanes (no scoring done). Concept was good but can't say the execution/delivery was the greatest from my gruff tutors(s). TV screen in room was small, hard to hear video/discussion above all the noise in alley, a couple of the sheets were badly printed so hard to read. First couple of weeks we had enough lanes but third week there was a big kids group in there and we had to make do with 2-3 lanes. I'm sure others would have had a better experience, just depends on the alley owners and how they manage it/who they put in to lead it.

Obviously it's a lead in to to their bowling leagues/competition but it wasn't a hard sell at the end.
Probably not worth sitting through it all if you just want to throw a few balls down for free. If you want to take a step up from the once a year giggle bowl with friends or learn the proper technique then go for it.

  • Sometime it works. 'Thanks for booking a spot in our Bowling 101 program!'

I attended the one held a couple of months ago, and I thought it was well worth my time. You'll pick up lots of handy tips, even if you don't plan on playing in a league. Simple things like how to choose the right size bowling ball and where to stand can help improve your social game. Great opportunity to get out and do something fun mid-week. Coaches at Blacktown centre were great! For those in the program, they offered $5 games anytime we wanted to come in for a bowl within the 4 weeks. I highly recommend it :)

  • Thanks, OP! Looks like fun. :)

  • i did the lessons when it was first offered last year. just my luck i was the only one for that session (mornings) so it was a 1 on 1 lesson. after the video, i spent the rest of the lesson throwing balls down the alley without pins, which was still great for developing targeting skills. don't forget if you sign up for their roller club, you get 2 free games on your birthday (excluding shoe hire)

  • It's a great experience you learn the basics and meet new people all under budget

  • Anyone received a call from the venue? Only received the confirmation and saying someone will call and confirm the attendance.

    • Received a call midday today for 6:30pm tomorrow. Your experience with your local centre may differ.
